You must not be male, and you must not have been male. Nothin' against transfolk, at all, but like... I can't really cozy up to that idea very well when it comes to having a sexual relation with one.

You must not want to have kids--at least, biologically. That's a given. You must be okay with adoption.

And, you must... be able to handle... my idiosyncratic beliefs. Probably the hardest one.

-Willing to raise children as exclusively Catholic
-Willing to practice abstinence and have a Catholic wedding

There's more things then just 3, but those were the first to come to mind.

Half of you people saying non religion/must be religious is rather cringy. You can believe in god without forcing your children to go to church, igit. My parents took me when I was younger but when I was like 10? They said I could or couldn't go and I didn't go since.

Or you can not believe and be cool with it and not force your views on them

Put that fedora down, people.

You say you want an open person or someone to compromise and yet you saying something like religion is just... wow.

Alright well putting retarded things aside and assuming I love them, here are 3.

1. Be intelligent.

I can't stand idiots and a smart man/woman (whoever I end up with) is something that really is amazing. Engaging with your significant other in meaningful conversations is great

2. Be independent

I don't need you constantly relying on me or being clingy to me. You're your own person. Have fun, do what you love to do so long as you're safe, and maybe I'll enjoy some of those things you have too.

3. Sense of humor

This one is pretty much obvious for people, but being able to take a joke or make a serious situation defused by just realizing it's stupid and relaxing, is something I really love.

And those are 3 things. They're general things too, so some of you idiots tying in religion and other things is simply childish and you wonder why you don't get dat puss puss. Or boy pussy. Whatever your kink is.

Can you please... explain to me what this means? Are you saying you want a sterile woman? Because you threw in the word "biologically" and I'm really wondering what you mean.

-Willing to practice abstinence and have a Catholic wedding
Yes, let's listen to what some random old man in the old days suddenly said was wrong, and not was Jesus said at all. Let's also listen to them saying women having any power in the Catholic church being wrong, and then turn a Saint into a whore because women are bad!

Let's also have an expensive wedding and then get divorced in 4 years because we focused on the idea of marriage rather than the marriage itself, and what we'd do if the other suddenly came down with a disease or the first wave of "excitement" in the relationship fades away.

Yeah but he said not want to have kids, so... why? That makes no sense. Unless the rumors I heard about Verb thinking humans having kids is... weird or something. Which is more or less daft, so I refuse to believe he actually thinks that without at least hearing his reason.

That isn't what it's about. I can't speak for anyone else, but for me, raising a child is the modt important thing I'll ever do. It is straight-up irresponsible to raise a child with someone who doesn't have the same philisophical views as you do, end of story. You will never convince me otherwise.

Let's break this down.

To the first one, I can agree with you on showing your child your points of views, but as they get older you should promote that they think on their own or be their own man or woman. Not confine them to your same beliefs.

2. I was just using an example you cunt. And no, believe it or not I was never one for being big on god. And even if I was, it literally had no influence on my life really. You treat religion like it's the devil when in reality, moderation in any and everything is the key to a lot of things. You make it sound like all people who believe in religion are bad, and if that's the case, you're no better than the radicals who try and promote it.

3. You're implying I don't take commitments seriously because of religion? You know nothing about me.

4. That was in general in both directions, a poor choice of words. What I was trying to say, was people saying they can't accept people who are religious/aren't religious, is rather silly to me. Both sides of this, not just anti religion.

I think it's silly that you guys paint being religious/not being religious, as some sin or something and I honestly think it is retarded. Someone can believe in a higher power and not push any and all things unto you. Same with people who DON'T believe in a god, but I honestly get more push from then than religious people, because it's the internet and being a fedora tipping Atheist is so cool.

Aren't women hotwired to want to kids, at least much more so than men?

Well, goodluck finding a woman who'll marry you who also doesn't eventually want to have kids. Part of getting married is to settle down and make a family. Bit redundant if that family's going to die off after your generation, so you might as well not even bother with that.

To be honest, I'm not too big on marriage anyway. It's nice, sure, but all the legal stuff involved with it just makes it a bit too undesirable to me, especially if you don't plan on having kids. It seems like it puts both parties under more pressure than they need to be, and for what?

Just doesn't seem worth the hassle in my eyes. Not that I'm opposed to marriage, mind you. If I ever found someone that I got along with flawlessly, was with for at least five years or so, I'd probably do a huge 180 on my current mindset.

Though knowing me, I'll wake up tomorrow and have changed my mind on it anyway.

Marriage usually goes wrong because society promotes the idea of getting married rather than the actual marriage itself. That's why divorce rates over her in America are like 49%.

Instead you should discuss the commitments you'd actually take, what you'd do when hardships hit (the 'for better or worse' part), and realizing that 100% of the time it won't be all "Oh I love you!"s. We also make people feel guilty for not getting married if they've been together for more than 4 years when you're in your mid to late 20's, and you're looked down upon.

It's rather strange.

Too many people stay with someone for like... two years, then decide it's time to propose. It's sad (as in the "Awh, I feel bad for them" way) since they're usually young, too. Like you say, mid twenties. You haven't even decided what you want career wise, and people your age are making huge commitments like this so early when they're probably in the same boat as you.

It's just baffling why people go into it so early. You should plan beforehand and only really go through with it when both parties have a stable income, or just the one if it's a really well paid job.

Just because something is natural or "programmed into our brains" doesn't make it okay. Killing others is natural, does that make it okay? No.

It's simple. The presence of pleasure is good. The presence of pain is bad. The absence of pain is good, and the absence of pleasure is only bad if there is someone there to experience it. Which, if you're not born, you can't.

Because children don't have a choice to be born or not, they shouldn't be born. Life is an imposition, one with inevitable pain included.

Atheism isn't a "belief", it's a lack of belief.

Kids won't experience religion until they're older unless they're exposed to it at a young age. If my partner and I are both atheist, they won't experience it until they can make their own decisions, which I am all for. But raising a kid religiously is the exact opposite of allowing them to make their own decisions. Small children have a very difficult time differentiating between reality and fiction.

Quote
2. I was just using an example you cunt.
It wasn't my intention to come off like that. I apologise, honestly.
My point was, though, that if you're raised religiously, you are inclined to believe in a God regardless. Even after being an atheist for a few years, I still have a instictive inclination to a "god" of some sorts, and I often have to remind myself of the facts.

Quote
3. You're implying I don't take commitments seriously because of religion? You know nothing about me.
Again, that wasn't my intention. I was using "you" to mean anyone who doesn't think about what they're doing.

Quote
4. That was in general in both directions, a poor choice of words. What I was trying to say, was people saying they can't accept people who are religious/aren't religious, is rather silly to me. Both sides of this, not just anti religion.
It is the opposite of silly, actually.
I have nothing wrong with religious people, many of which my close friends are. But when you decide to sit down and have a child with someone, not agreeing on basic life fundamentals is kind of an issue. Disagreeing with this is ridiculous.

Quote
Someone can believe in a higher power and not push any and all things unto you.
I agree with you full-heartedly. This isn't about hating religion, it's about creating the best possible atmosphere for a child to grow up in.

Your lack of seriousness when it comes to children is exactly why each generation gets worse and worse.

Alright well sorry for coming off defensive :(

On a more tame note, I just want to say one thing. I am open to the idea of god, but don't necessarily accept or believe him. And we cannot prove if a god is real or not. I personally believe that if there IS one, it is at a much greater and more fascinating level than what a simple book tells me. I refuse to accept it is so simple, you know?

And for the generation getting worse and worse, well that's what EVERY generation says, silly.

Because children don't have a choice to be born or not, they shouldn't be born. Life is an imposition, one with inevitable pain included.

Taking a life and creating a life are two completely different things. Besides, what you're saying is completely dependent on context. By your logic, it's not okay to kill someone who's doing their hardest to kill you. Should I just let them kill me because it's not right to end their life? No. And I'm not going to sit back and let them murder me.

Children don't have the choice to be born, you're right, but just because they don't have a say doesn't mean they don't want to. Everyone, and I mean everyone, has at some point had the desire to live, even if they don't feel that way now. It's human nature. At the most basic level, we just want to survive and procreate. There's nothing morally wrong about that.

You're saying that, because everyone inevitably has a moment when they feel down or are in pain, that means they shouldn't be have the chance to be born? Fuck that, that's pointless logic in my eyes. Arguing that point, you could easily counter with the fact that, by not giving that baby a chance to be born, you're an awful person robbing that kid of all his/her potential happiness, love and whatever else good feelings are out there.

Life can be hard sometimes, yeah, but if I had the choice of being born or not, I'd never once consider the option of just ceasing to exist.
