After suffering years of abuse at home, a 15-year-old girl broke into her parents' locked room through a window, took their gun while they were away and shot her 16-year-old brother to death, authorities said.

On Wednesday, authorities released police documents and interviews describing the abuse, including that the girl was locked in a room for weeks at a time with only a blanket and a bucket to use the bathroom.

The shooting at a small white house off a dirt road in rural north Florida happened Monday while the children's parents were away for work. The father, a truck driver, and his wife, who often went with him, left the 16-year-old boy to watch over the 15-year-old, her 11-year-old sister and their 3-year-old sister, police said. The parents left Sunday and were due back Tuesday.

Sometime Monday, the 15-year-old girl was locked in her room by her brother, police said. After the boy fell asleep, she talked her 11-year-old sister into unlocking her door.

The older girl knew her parents kept a pistol in their room, but they had locked their door. So the girl went outside and used a knife to remove an air conditioner from her parents' bedroom window. She climbed in while her 11-year-old sister kept watch and grabbed the gun out of a pink bag and loaded it, police said.

Before you say she deserves jail think about this, she has been raped by her brother multiple times and it locked away in a room for long periods of time for no reason. She tried to kill herself multiple times but the parents never reported it and did nothing to help her.

I can't even imagine the shit this girl has suffered through so don't even try and argue that this girl deserves to rot. She needs help and guidance to become a healthy adult

She shouldn't be charged at all. Doing so will teach victims of abuse and rape that trying to get out a situation will result you being the bad one who ends up in prison, not the perpetrator

She shouldn't be charged at all. Doing so will teach victims of abuse and rape that trying to get out a situation will result you being the bad one who ends up in prison, not the perpetrator

Lifelong mental trauma is FAR worse than being killed

This isn't some first time thing. It has been going on constantly and greatly condoned by the parents because lack of discipline to the older brother. Hell, child services came to the house before and nothing was done. If you or anybody else was in a situation of being held in captivity and being treated like shit, you would do the same exact thing. This girl had no other options and has put up with it for multiple years. Saying she should be punished IS victim blaming

The punishment should not be jail tho, something like mandatory time in a rehabilitation facility or something.

2) That's not victim blaming, she should face some form of punishment for pulling the trigger and taking a life. If I was victim blaming then I'd be saying she should be punished just for being abused, which of course I'm not. See the difference?

1. I will because any human going through torture and rape will want to get out of the situation, no matter the cost

2. Saying she deserves punishment for defending herself is victim blaming. The only other option she had was to let the abuse to continue. That's what you're saying, that she should have continued to be abused instead of protecting herself. Who fucking cares if she pulled the trigger? She was going through literal Hell and was the ONLY option for her to escape. She deserves NO punishment but a pat on the back for getting rid of a desolate abusive scum that would most likely target her younger sisters as they got older

Fuck the brother, he deserved what he got. also IMO the girl shouldn't go to jail, but she should go to a rehabilitation facility.

You're right. This girl who was being abused, raped and tortured by her own brother should be charged with murder. When she was trying to defend herself in the only way she know how in her extremely damaged mental state. She didn't murder some random person for the hell of it. She defended herself from some sadistic monster.

I wonder why the 15 year old didn't call the police.

They also say the children's mother discovered the siblings having sex in 2011. Authorities and child welfare officials investigated, but no one was charged.
