I think it is to do with either the alerts system or the 'NEW' icon next to a topic with an unread post.

Must be the alerts system, maybe.

I've clicked it fifty times now and nothing is happening. I'm gonna keep going and see where it takes me.

It marks all threads in that section as "Read" I think.
