How much is each page view worth?

Just curious about ads on sites -- approximately how many clicks/views equates to $1?

Personally, I've never bought anything from a sidebar or banner ad, and I was wondering how ad companies justify spending tons of money on this sort of advertising if -- and I assume I'm in the majority -- most people completely ignore them. That means a small percentage of users are basically supporting the entire site (or numerous sites), and everyone else's use of it, through their purchases. Just seems kind of weird to me.

I probably posted this in the wrong spot but I figured Cheat would notice it this way.

Sovrn isn't as strict as adsense, so I can talk about the ads without fearing being kicked out.

There are many different advertising practices. The ones you're probably thinking of are Cost Per Click, which DO depend on users clicking on ads. The platform I'm using is strictly Cost Per Thousand, which means I get so much money (and I'm talking cents) per thousand page views.

Now, that doesn't sound like a lot, and it's definitely not anywhere close enough to support me, but there is enough activity here to easily pay for hosting and the occasional upgrade.

Lately the population has actually been down, so it's highly likely I'll be adding in a donation page in the coming months as a way to support the site and disable ads 'officially' for you if you so choose.

What if we want to donate but don't mind the ads? Would it just unlock a setting to disable them if we want?

A donations option would be good, and you could encourage donations by giving the donators something like an addition to their title bar, or some optional type of customization promoting that they donated.

No. People who donate will get a nameplate that, while you wear it, gives you a special "donor" icon next to your name and also functions identically to Impostor (if you're Legendary). No shortcuts to special privileges like custom titles or anything.

It varies significantly. I'd guess 800,000 to a million.
