I'd agree with that, but anything over a week for any type of spoiler is far too long. Telling someone to fuck off or kill themselves in a non-banter way should be higher than spoiling a game.

Luckily, this case happens to kill both those birds with one stone.

If nothing is going to be done about the spoiler incident then there is something wrong here. It can be easily fixed, but I don't understand why it isn't being fixed. Hell, I would settle for a friggin lite-ban for accidental and three days for a malicious.

I mean, come on.

Depends on each individual case.

I received no assist in my thread, despite repeatedly being told to kill myself.

I explained multiple times in that thread, that I've been suicidal for years.

"Contact a staff member"

Reported twice. Nothing happened.

1) Monitors already fulfill that role, and they're not limited to one board.

No they can't. Last I checked, you can't edit/remove people's posts.

Quote
2) I can't speak on behalf of the upper staff, but that sounds awfully draconian and will probably never happen.

How?

Just a friendly reminder that going dark is the only foolproof means of avoiding spoilers.

I already addressed this. I wanted someone to take the reins from me so I could go dark but no one stepped up, so I felt responsible for it.

Excuse me for giving a shit about the community.

This came off as harsh Kupo. Sorry, I still like you but I'm frustrated.
Yeah, I understand. I'm not happy about this situation either, but I'm trying to help manage expectations and calm people down. Despite what it may look like from the outside, we actually have entertained the various ideas brought up, if just to know why (specifically) they wouldn't work, or wouldn't be necessary.

As Cheat said elsewhere, he's considering adding more people to the staff (but please note that it's not a guarantee of anything). It's been brought to light today that we may be understaffed--considering that I wasn't even available to check up on the thread during the day, or else I would have. Granted, I wasn't around to see this unfold, so I don't know who else was online or what I could have done, anyway.

All I can really say is that...this sucks, and I'm sorry this happened. Telling you to 'go dark' or something else to avoid spoilers doesn't really change anything, especially given the specific circumstances surrounding MGS V (it's definitely not a typical game release).

And finally, in regards to Gatsby's (lack of a) punishment, I'd think that the backlash he's gotten may suffice. Just don't hold a grudge for too long, because we're human and we all make mistakes, if I can even call it that >.>

It. Won't. Happen.
So far, you have SecondStrawman on your side. Not counting your yesmen monitors (no offense, but that's what you two are being right now).
What the fuck? I say that a month is too long a punishment for spoiling a game, and people just start calling me Alex Jones and a strawman, lol. Get over the fact that people have different opinions than you.

I'd agree with harsher punishments. Not inflating to months of ban-time for a first offense, but breaking rules intentionally with malicious intent is inherently worth more than a 24 hour ban. I'd suggest making more offenses a 3-day minimum, that sounds like a good start.

Another issue this brings up is that we still need to look into revising and adding to the current rules. This specific instance really highlights the fact that there are shockingly large gaps in the ones we have now.

If you can call out members, spam, and harass people without even getting a three day ban, spoiling a shitty game franchise shouldn't garner a month long ban. That's ridiculous.

As far as I'm concerned, breaking all the rules need more severe punishments. Ooh, you don't get to go on Sep7agon for a few days. Maybe you'll shine your shoes with the extra time.
I'd agree with that, but anything over a week for any type of spoiler is far too long. Telling someone to fuck off or kill themselves in a non-banter way should be higher than spoiling a game.
That's essentially what we're saying.

As stated earlier, the staff is working on the issue and should have something ready within a day or two.

It's 2am and most of the staff is asleep right now. We can't snap our fingers and make magic.

Building off of my previous post

Purposefully posting spoilers to ruin something for a bunch of people is classed as malicious intent, and should be treated the same as any other post with malicious intent.

I was never against a week. I just saw that you and Cheat were talking about 4-6 months as a punishment on the first page, which got me freaked out.

But yeah, I'm not really on your "side". I think punishments in general should be longer, not just spoilers...

Accidental spoilers wouldn't result in a ban. Just a polite request to label it as such.

I know this is horrible timing and I do intend to talk about this more, but something serious came up and I can really only check in every so often on my tablet until tomorrow.

I'll be going over the thread when I get back.

The staff was already planning to take a revised look at editing the rules eventually. Whether or not there is another poll regarding moderation style hasn't even been discussed yet, but I imagine it will happen.

Were I given thread-specific permissions, it wouldn't have happened. You wouldn't need more staff.

Like, even an option to spoiler any comment temporarily until a mod looks over it would be better than nothing.

Jesus I've fixed this problem in 7 different ways but for some reason the staff doesn't want to accept it.

This is exactly my point. There's never going to be another Metal Gear game. Ever. The series I love so dearly is coming to an end. I'm never going to experience another Kojima Metal Gear game again.

And it's ruined for me.

He's shown no remorse at all. There's no reason for me to forgive him.

We covered that confusion a few pages back; they were talking about the time in which punishment is enforced for something, not the length of the punishment itself. Like, for how many months after MGS5 is released should spoilers be punishable?

No no. We were talking about the grace period in which the anti-spoiler field, if you will, would be in effect after the game's release.

That is my side. I practically proposed the strict ruleset plan.

3 months seems reasonable to me.

I originally said 3 weeks but maybe that would be for more severe punishments.

Ideally, the punishment starts off more severe the closer we are to release date.
