But why? That barely constitutes a minor nuisance.
Are we that strapped for members that we can't dish out justice when needed?
Quality of members over quantity of members, I say.

One month bans for a spoiler will not happen, I can guarantee you that much.

And what if they break more than one rule at a time?

That'll come down to the staff handling the situation.

Even if we were to throw a harassment charge in, you're still looking at no more than a few days, at most.
But why? That barely constitutes a minor nuisance.
Are we that strapped for members that we can't dish out justice when needed?

Quote
Posting malicious attacks or repeatedly harassing members will carry penalties ranging from a 10-20% warning for the first offense, to lite-bans of various lengths.

Let's say we gave Gatsby a warning for harassment - it was only his first or second offense if i recall, so his impact from harassment would be small, maybe a day lite-ban.

Spoiling, depending on what we decide, will be a few days at most.

As I said, there is no way we are going to ban people for weeks to a month for posting a spoiler.
he posted 5 big spoilers, and reposted a previous one

that's not a minor offence

i really love how all the best ideas are being shot down one by one

and for poor/baseless/no reasoning
Truth is, a lot of these ideas really are ripe for abuse. Overreactive changes are only asking for trouble.

Highly unlikely, a nice idea on paper but in application its far too susceptible to abuse, a person can edit out what they don't like or just flat out lock threads when things don't go their way. Even if the staff gives it to more "responsible" members, there have always been cases of members who have generally been more calm to lose their cool. Its just not going to be a thing, sorry.

1. It's their thread, they should have control if they want. Don't like it? Make your own thread.

2. It's not like a monitor position. Each thread would need to be requested specifically. If I was allowed to have these permissions in my MGSV thread, I wouldn't have it in my Street Fighter thread. See how that works? It only applies to my MGSV thread, because it matters there.

Mods would be able to say "Okay, he means to update this thread appropriately, and in the past, he's shown maturity. Let's grant him this."

Still not worthy of a month long ban. Hell, Noelle & Kinder rarely even got those.

Sorry.

And even if they are, a few clicks makes it go away.

Almost always, with moderation
Week bans for spoilers? Not even people who post porn get that much, thats overly severe for the what it is.
let's be real here

the consequence of posting porn is minimal--you might offend somebody with a very weak constitution.
boo hoo, you saw some tits--oh well

the consequence of posting spoilers is universal--everyone who reads the spoiler is negatively affected
everyone
You're implying that everyone cares about spoilers, you even said yourself you don't mind them, some individuals may not even have interest in said spoiler, minus all of rules that result in immediate permas, nothing you could do on this site would result in a immediate week to month ban, the exception being releasing private personal secrets and those do harm.

I'm not saying that but it seems that a few days is barely anything at all when it seems this had caused a significant disturbance to people who care about it.

Sorry Verb, but we aren't hyperinflatting punishments to appease a few people.

We will put in new safeguards against spoilers, but we are not going to ban members for a month. That is not, and never will, be on the table.

Ideas:

1. Forum-specific mods, with powers that work temporarily and need to be looked at by permanent mod to take full effect.

None of their effects last permanently, so any mistakes they make will be rectified.

2. Thread-specific extra-permissions application

Very little downside. The person needs to apply for each specific thread, to which he can be denied if he's untrustworthy. Typically reserved for big threads, like my MGSV or a Star Wars hype thread, etc. Also, it's that's person thread. Don't like it? Make your own thread.

Make the punishments severe. Only people who break the rules will be affected, and as far as I'm concerned, those people deserve it.

Why do we need to pander to these fucks that add nothing but negativity to our forum?

It's a little shocking at first but hopefully we can perhaps help out a bit...
That last line is something I've been asking myself for a while.

1) Monitors already fulfill that role, and they're not limited to one board.

2) I can't speak on behalf of the upper staff, but that sounds awfully draconian and will probably never happen.

Just a friendly reminder that going dark is the only foolproof means of avoiding spoilers. But... man, this was a terrible way to end the hype train week :/

My guess is they need to revenue, which is understandable but I'd rather see more ads on my screen than have to deal with this shit.

Well if you can't get a week ban right off the bat for anything then what's the point of following the rules at all?!
A couple days, like I said, is so utterly useless and insignificant.

I already addressed this. I wanted someone to take the reins from me so I could go dark but no one stepped up, so I felt responsible for it.

Excuse me for giving a shit about the community.

This came off as harsh Kupo. Sorry, I still like you but I'm frustrated.

Well...
I'm not going to say anything without all the knowledge on it first but I wouldn't rule out the latter.

With that being said, when you're being told (by a staff member) not to come to a site because another user could muck up your experience there... well, it's kind of laid out right there.
