Quote from: Naoto on July 14, 2015, 07:33:24 AMWith the system we have now people are getting warnings for calling others retard.I don't think they're getting warned for calling somebody it once they're most likely got warned for doing it more than once. If you seen that thread of Lemons he posted here about he makes it seem like he's some innocent user getting mod biases which isn't the case. He called me a retard more than once and I think he does the same to Deci. After the first few times when you know the person isn't joking it ends up being harassment which is against the rules. Can you honestly say that this post of his is more of a joke than it being harassment? It's easy to see that it's more of an insult than a joke.

Find me a fun forum that slaps people for something as benign as retard. If this place stops being fun people will go elsewhere.

I wouldn't post at any of those tbh.
Should we warn anyone who calls Elegiac dingo again? He certainly has a better case than Bezerk.
Its The Flood. Not some Nintendo kid friendly site. There's a certain level of maturity expected here and that means being able to take a few insults. (obviously excluding the serious board)
I still think this is a side argument anyways since technically it shouldn't be happening under the hybrid system. That distinctly matches the strict description. The major difference between the three was how they handled shitposts.
i don't care, that's not the pointyou asked for "fun" forums that would "slap" you for calling someone a "retard"--something as benign as "retard"
If it ever reaches levels of malicious harassment again
And if we designate the word "dingo" as a word to harass another user and make them feel uncomfortable, then that's, in my opinion, worthy of punishment.
Insults are still unacceptable. On principle.
consider your priorities if you're honestly still at all concerned about your right to shitpost hereseriouslyi don't even think anyone else but you cares anymore about it
Naoto.You're wrong.
How on earth does the word 'dingo' qualify as 'malicious harassment'?
I see people complain about locked threads regularly. My priority is enjoyment. Only reason to come here at all.
Just remember that it's not the word "dingo" by itself that qualifies as malicious harassment. That's a straw man.Malicious harassment counts as malicious harassment.Any word can be used to maliciously harass anyone.so, just admit that you're arguing for the authorization of harassment, and you'll have a consistent (though ethically questionable) argument
Under that mindset anything and everything is harassment. Words have no meaning.
That's hugbox mentality 101.
Quote from: Naoto on July 14, 2015, 08:40:41 AMThat's hugbox mentality 101. This is "you're-either-with-me-or-against-me" rhetoric 101.I'm not about creating a "hugbox", and you know it.
Verb you're talking about the word dingo being 'malicious harassment'. What would you call it?
Quote from: Naoto on July 14, 2015, 08:49:26 AMVerb you're talking about the word dingo being 'malicious harassment'. What would you call it?No, I'm talking about how any word has the potential of being used for malicious harassment. The word could be "cunt," or "dickless retard," or "fat flaming faggot," or "dingo," or "chair".If you can't tell if someone is using the word "dingo" with normal intent, jocular intent, or malicious intent, then that's on you. I'm saying it's really easy to tell the difference, unless your honest argument is that some words are okay to harass people with, because they aren't traditionally considered offensive, while the ones that are traditionally considered offensive should be banworthy.Which is what is called an arbitrary line in the sand.
Stop being such a chair Verb.
Quote from: Naoto on July 14, 2015, 09:00:09 AMStop being such a chair Verb.See, it doesn't work like that. If you trailed my every post and called me a "chair" for the sole purpose of getting a rise out of me, that would be considered harassment. Yes.The reason it doesn't work this time is because your intent isn't to offend me, but to illustrate a (weak and misguided) point. I shouldn't have to school you through this.
I should make it clear, though, that I think harassment is a much bigger deal than simply offending somebody. If someone is offended, for example, when I use the word "nigger" out of its malicious context, they can go jump off a cliff.
Why are you such a chair tho?
Quote from: Naoto on July 14, 2015, 09:06:20 AMWhy are you such a chair tho?See, again, the only reason it doesn't work here is because you're not harassing me--you're trying to make a political statement. Now, if I walked out of this forum and you trailed all of my posts by responding with that every time, I might have sufficient grounds to report you for not only harassing me, but spamming the forum.
You do know we are going to be testing this now I want that chair warning like a mother fucker.
Quote from: Naoto on July 14, 2015, 09:13:38 AMYou do know we are going to be testing this now I want that chair warning like a mother fucker. It's probably not gonna work for a variety of reasons. Mainly1. I'm not offended and I don't feel harassed2. Your intent isn't maliciousOut of curiosity, how do you feel about transfolk? People who prefer that you use pronouns that don't match up with their biological sex. Do you go out of your way not to follow their wishes? If not, why?
I don't even know how you could possibly have a malicious intent when calling someone a chair.

I typically call people by whatever pronouns they wish. Though I do tend to view people by their biological sex in my head. Not something I've been able to get past. I think getting upset over stuff like the all caps trans jokes is dumb. Or flipping out over someone refusing to use preferred pronouns. Its just revealing a weakness that will always be exploited. Be confident in who you are enough to take a few on the chin. Stuff like xe xir xher etc is fucking stupid tho. I refuse to use it.

I agree with everything here, except I would still contend that, though you should be confident enough in who you are not to get offended by such things, that doesn't give us a free ticket to be dickheads. You think it does, and that's the ultimate thing that you haven't really explained yet.
