The Flood / Why do people feel so strongly about Tesla vs Edison?
« on: April 11, 2017, 10:29:30 AM »
I mean, I get that Edison was a dick to Tesla, and Tesla was arguably the more impassioned, inspired inventor, but why do people care? It seems like an odd historical rivalry to feel strongly about, since the implications of it don't go further than AC vs DC. Historical rivalries are interesting, for sure, but the Hamilton vs Jefferson rivalry has a far bigger impact on today's world and no one's cared about that one until Hamilton hit Broadway.

EDIT: I guess this'll just be a music dump thread now. So post whatever you've got.

The Flood / Was this place always so conservative?
« on: January 19, 2017, 09:38:51 PM »
I've always assumed that whenever people here talk like they're alt-right they were just doing it ironically.

After seeing Second Class given a run-around for saying super inoffensive things about how we ought to fight to guarantee equal rights between genders, though, I've started to wonder.

Was this community always a bulwark of regressives, or am I just only now waking up to it?

The Flood / Am I the only one who misses Camnator?
« on: January 19, 2017, 04:31:58 PM »
I though he could be pretty funny. He would always quote Batman Begins when he saw me post.

Sure the massive Camnator-quote-circlejerk could get kind of annoying, but now that it's gone, I almost want it back.

The Flood / Let's spoil the endings of great movies in this thread
« on: October 26, 2016, 08:12:57 PM »
In The Departed,  Matt Damon kills Jack Nicholson, Matt Damon's friend saves him by killing Leonardo DiCaprio and Leo's friend, Matt kills his own buddy, then Mark Wahlberg kills Matt Damon. Mark Wahlberg wins.

The Flood / Why are people so up in arms about Challenger?

I mean, he's great, sure, but it's only a day ban. We hardly even have enough time to convince the mods to unban him before the ban expires anyways.

It's literally just hundreds of people spouting asinine shit at a rapid-fire rate. I mean, honestly, what kind of people feel the need to constantly post worthless content just to be recognized by other posters of worthless content?

Oh wait.

The Flood / Favorite Batman villain?
« on: October 08, 2016, 05:59:53 PM »
Mine's Scarecrow.
This probably comes as no surprise.
What about you guys, though?
Is it Joker, or are you not quite that basic?
Is it some obscure guy like Firefly, or do you have a life?

I don't now how often we have these nowadays, since I've been away for a good minute, but I remember when they would pop up every few weeks, kinda like the picture threads. Anyways, I want to post something, but I need to warm back up before I'm good at making at least somewhat creative shitposts again, so I'm gonna take the easy road.

…I'd participate, myself, of course, but what I've got is… private. Don't worry about it.

Gaming / How do you guys feel about voiced vs. silent protagonists?
« on: October 02, 2016, 04:34:11 PM »
I've heard the argument that having a silent or mostly silent protagonist allows the player the project themselves onto whoever they're playing as, but frankly, that just seems kind of lazy to me. I'd prefer that the player-character was written in a way that fits with how the gameplay makes us feel about him. For example, Kratos in God of War is a pretty angry guy, which fits with the very violent gameplay. The connection between player and protagonist is a lot stronger when the characters voices what the game makes us feel; we identify with them because we want to not because we have to. What's your perspective on this, though?

The Flood / What do you say the odds are of us getting more floodfiction?
« on: October 02, 2016, 03:53:24 PM »
Remember that period of time for which Exploding Piglet was episodically releasing his story about Vien, Camnator, and Verbatim meeting at PAX, while Officer Nasty was doing the same with his story about the Flood apocalypse? And then it created a trend of similar stories? Do you think there's a big enough audience for something like that here? I feel like we need a Flood Renaissance.

Septagon / We should really consider adding a Destiny board
« on: October 01, 2016, 08:39:59 PM »
I know that they were the cancer of b.net, but they were so much fun to watch. Browsing #destiny was like watching a train wreck, except the wreck went on for years and the conductor kept on throwing gasoline on the rising flames.

Is this place completely dead, or only as dead as it was when I left? Is the new site anything like b.net? Is this community still one big beautiful circlejerk? I want to know the new status quo.
