I can see where Verb is coming from easily, but if it turns out someone is trans then I can't see it as lying, because that is their gender.
It's still a lie, because you're not a girl yet you're pretending to be one. However, it's a justified lie. Not all lies are bad.

Humanity's future, what's truly possible, if there's other life in the universe. Really, the future. The most depressing thing about death to me is not that I won't be able to continue my own life, but just that I'll never know what happens beyond then. It's amazing to live in this time period, where we are making more progress in technology than ever, but that's not enough. Space exploration will happen well beyond my death. Or, maybe, I don't want to know. Maybe space exploration isn't feasible, or that life is impossibly rare. Either way, I guess that's what reading fiction is for >_>

Serious / Re: Why do we need political correctness?
« on: December 09, 2015, 02:09:38 PM »
Really I don't think there's much to actually argue about, because it boils down to political correctness/social justice/whatever having two sides. One is focused on the "don't be a dick" principle, and the other is the amped up, multi-tier, sometimes questionable, sometimes very wrong, "tumblr sjw" form that it is now known for. No one should be able to argue against the former - but with the latter now, there's people questioning political correctness in general. and I can only say that this entire thing is purely semantics. Certain extreme values of modern political correctness infringe on freedom of speech and are overbearing - I don't think many people are arguing about that. But for the question here, well...there's still the core values of not discriminating. So yes, we need political correctness in some form or another, and I dunno whats wrong with that. its just a matter of toning down and sorting through these added on values.

Political correctness, at its core, is "Don't be a dick to people for arbitrary values"
You can say what you want about the extremists that think that censorship is necessary, or go overboard with it in general, or what its "become" as of late, but either way we "need" political correctness in some form or another because its the driving force for equal treatment where its needed

you can argue for extremists to tone their shit down, yes, but that doesnt mean that the core value is wrong.
po·lit·i·cal cor·rect·ness
noun
the avoidance, often considered as taken to extremes, of forms of expression or action that are perceived to exclude, marginalize, or insult groups of people who are socially disadvantaged or discriminated against.

Except yoga does this to no one.
1. yoga?
2. Well yes, its avoiding discriminating against groups of people. If you're talking about the "sometimes to extreme measures" part, then I'm not defending that. It's just another way of people taking it too far, and I'm not a fan of that. I'm allowed to dislike some gay guy because he's a dick, and I shouldn't be called a dick for that just because he likes dick.

...what? The same regurgitated argument against the existence of free will doesn't invalidate consenting to sex so that you don't get raped.

Definitely odd hearing about this. I grew up kinda nearby, my grandparents live 9 miles away from where this happened, and my dad remembers playing baseball like right near those two streets.
