The Flood / Search
« on: February 21, 2015, 06:15:23 PM »
Why grasp for strings when you can grasp for freedom?

Why do you insist on humoring a sprawling game that continues to mock you?

What have you done to deserve this?

When your carcass is breaking by the weight of itself, bursting from within,

You're almost home, you're so close,

yet sanctuary eludes you.

Are you a fool for continuing to search for paradise?

What did you do?

What have you done?

Gaming / Favorite JRPG character?

Deciding which one is your favorite is most likely difficult, so just choose one for this thread.

Spoiler
I'll go with Auron. From all the information we're given from him, everything is done with ardent determination and purpose for someone else. His loyalty to Yuna's father rewards him with nothing but death, yet still he endures for ten years as an unsent to watch over Tidus, aiming to one day bring him to the real world so he can help the boy kill his own father (who's also his old friend). All to keep a promise for Yuna's father.

Your turn

The Flood / I'd like to tell you
« on: February 19, 2015, 01:58:57 AM »
There is no reason; there's only cause and effect. Sure, there is purpose. It's whatever you attach it to for the most part, yet there is a common purpose we all share, right? It's..

I'm telling you all of this because I'd like to warn you before the same thing happens to you. When you find yourself to be saved from trouble, you'll find you've already died long ago. When the void threatens to engulf you as you gaze into the sad, earnest eyes of someone, something, so desperate to attach a reason to all of your suffering, you'll want to remember the answer to..

The answer is the mirror lying between you and what you thought you wanted to be. The illusion of what you pretend to be.

Someday, the mirror won't there anymore. The question is, will you still exist without your own idea of yourself? Maybe you'll just be a passing memory, like me.

Maybe that's all we ever were.

I'm going to suggest something. As long as the illusion holds, try to make the best of it. Perhaps you'll try to avoid being an unfunny shitposter like myself, or maybe..

It's your tale

Serious / Do souls, if they exist, have measurable weight?
« on: February 12, 2015, 02:46:01 AM »
Introducing the 21 grams theory:

Quote
Dr. MacDougall, seeking to determine "if the psychic functions continue to exist as a separate individuality or personality after the death of brain and body," constructed a special bed in his office "arranged on a light framework built upon very delicately balanced platform beam scales" sensitive to two-tenths of an ounce. He installed upon this bed a succession of six patients in the end stages of terminal illnesses (four from tuberculosis, one from diabetes, and one from unspecified causes); observed them before, during, and after the process of death; and measured any corresponding changes in weight. He then attempted to eliminate as many physiological explanations for the observed results as he could conceive:

"The patient's comfort was looked after in every way, although he was practically moribund when placed upon the bed. He lost weight slowly at the rate of one ounce per hour due to evaporation of moisture in respiration and evaporation of sweat.

During all three hours and forty minutes I kept the beam end slightly above balance near the upper limiting bar in order to make the test more decisive if it should come.

At the end of three hours and forty minutes he expired and suddenly coincident with death the beam end dropped with an audible stroke hitting against the lower limiting bar and remaining there with no rebound. The loss was ascertained to be three-fourths of an ounce.

This loss of weight could not be due to evaporation of respiratory moisture and sweat, because that had already been determined to go on, in his case, at the rate of one sixtieth of an ounce per minute, whereas this loss was sudden and large, three-fourths of an ounce in a few seconds. The bowels did not move; if they had moved the weight would still have remained upon the bed except for a slow loss by the evaporation of moisture depending, of course, upon the fluidity of the feces. The bladder evacuated one or two drams of urine. This remained upon the bed and could only have influenced the weight by slow gradual evaporation and therefore in no way could account for the sudden loss.

There remained but one more channel of loss to explore, the expiration of all but the residual air in the lungs. Getting upon the bed myself, my colleague put the beam at actual balance. Inspiration and expiration of air as forcibly as possible by me had no effect upon the beam. My colleague got upon the bed and I placed the beam at balance. Forcible inspiration and expiration of air on his part had no effect. In this case we certainly have an inexplicable loss of weight of three-fourths of an ounce. Is it the soul substance? How other shall we explain it?"

« on: February 11, 2015, 06:59:02 PM »
I have a drawing project due tomorrow afternoon, although I haven't started on it yet.

I'd like your help figuring out what the specific theme of my drawing should be!

The theme must encompass the word 'tension'

I'm using only pencil

Thanks in advance for your thoughts

The Flood / Memories (NSFW)
« on: November 19, 2014, 03:13:02 AM »
The elderly young woman resumed her routine about the watermelon patch whilst the surrounding, earnest sunflowers observed in unison. The toil was tedious, yes, but something about the mundane nature of the activity brought her weary soul peace. Peace

That was all she really needed now, these few days.

Eyelids allowed rays of a setting sun to curdle her waking eyes. How long had she dozed off?

She remembered her dream then. Wait, no it was a collection of..

Memories..

The sunflowers smiled.

Holding up a watermelon, she noticed a gaping hole. She checked to all the other watermelons, only to find they had all suffered the same unfortunate fate.

How could this have happened? Again?

A thud resounded about the area. A maimed watermelon rolled by her collapsed, withered yet comely figure as she finally found..

Peace .

-It might have been tagged, but it's still haram-
