I don't buy games often enough to do that.
1. VNs. not even video games. 2. Puzzle games. Including platformers. Including survival horror. They are either very abstract like Tetris or Bejeweled or they are infinitely unreplayable. 3. FPS. Death of arena shooters is death of any reason to keep this competitive. 4. MMOs. Running and farming. 5. Simulators. Jokes that stop being funny after 5 minutes. Rogue-likes and MOBAs are the future, fam. 760

Whether you want to believe that's true is up for debate, but I don't consider it a horribly controversial assertion. 763

What about sexulaization disables the player from being able to identify with a character? And how does it alter the way they think about the character? Seems a prerequisite for this to apply is for the player to be misogynistic already. 765

I appreciate that heavily.)funny u said this because ull never see anyone use female models speedrunning DS1 because of a very specific glitch used to duplicate consumable items. for some reason it only works with the male model, and being able to dupe an item that basically provides free souls for leveling while the runner is skipping 80% of the game is essential also there are some armor set aesthetic differences, sometimes favoring male in coolness, sometimes favoring female in coolness one male set had a hood while the female didn't and in another set the female set had a pretty raven feather scarf while the male did not #sexism 769

Yeah but that doesn't make them flaws. They may alienate some people but it was definitely a daring concept that has worked, and fostered an online competitive community.
But I guess that's the everlasting problem of trying to assess media. Certain things will appeal to different people. You can only ever truly judge complete failures like Sonic 06 where things aren't even functional. 775

I can ball up my fist and swing it in whatever direction I want, but my right to swing my fist ends where your nose begins. Not in the boxing ring. Dark Souls is one big boxing ring, with NPCs and a story. I think you really need to reconsider what the purpose of these functions are before saying they are flawed. They're only as flawed as a pair of scissors are for cleaning your ears. You're looking at them wrong. Games are supposed to entertain, yes. And dying and challenges aren't immediate fun. But being able to overcome challenges and adversity in a pessimistic aesthetic is what distinguishes art from Angry Birds. 777

Gaming / Re: Video Games, consent, and you.« on: January 14, 2016, 01:17:53 PM »Would solely having NPC invasions not balance that out? Why must there be human player invasions? Why is it so horrible to have player invasions be taken out in favor of a consensual "accept/decline" type duel system? No because the AI aren't advanced enough and players can be far more inventive with their builds and play styles that they overall produce a much more diverse experience than scripted bots would. If from could have put in bots that were indistinguishable from players they would have. The point of a bot is to emulate some asshole invading you. If that is fine with you then I do not understand why you choose to let the game creators fuck you over in an identical way rather than get fucked over by a player and at least have someone get some enjoyment out of the situation. 779
Gaming / Re: Video Games, consent, and you.« on: January 14, 2016, 01:10:54 PM »Why is an NPC invasion different if the designer intentionally put it in to thwart you for being human? The devs would want to have made the NPCs act as human as possible, that's what AI strive to do.The benefits exist specifically to offset the risk of invasion.Bad design. Is it because you agree there is a degree of consent to surprises and unknown challenges when you choose to put the game in and play it. Do you just dislike the fact that players have freedom to win a zero-sum game? A definitive winner and loser in exchanges are sort of ubiquitous to competitiveness. And Dark Souls is a competitive environment. Like Flee said, there are trade-offs for advantages in games. Humanity gives you luck, buddies, and estus. But also risks intruders. Chaos Weapons shouldn't get their max damage without their 10 humanity to add risk. No one should get free reign to summon allies without suspecting enemies. 780
