Serious / Re: Euthenasia
« on: October 01, 2015, 10:02:33 AM »
People will always make up hypotheticals of people being coerced into it but tbh we need to reevaluate if a situation where someone who didn't want to dies is actually worse than someone being forced to live when it is completely agonizing for them.
the sort of terror one would experience before being unwillingly euthanized is not something i'd wish on an innocent. i'd rather see someone who wanted to die be forced to live personally, but generally i agree that euthanization/suicide should be legal.
for someone to be coerced into it they have to be tolerant of the idea to some degree, otherwise they wouldn't advocate it well to a doctor
i was just addressing your point, not the probability/extent to which that would be a prolific issue. like i said, i'm all for euthanasia, but fuck being killed without your consent. what if you were mentally ill and your parents had the final say and you weren't able to effectively communicate? idk now i guess i'm making up hypotheticals but i don't take that sort of scenario as lightly as you do i guess
I think the primary issue is that those are issues that are self resolved rather quickly :^).

Still though do you honestly think it is fair to force your perspective of "all life is worth living" on the most powerless and tortured people in society?

I'm more or less choosing to refrain from voting unless I think there is sufficient reason to fear someone even more retarded will get elected.

I'm surprised Verb defends women so adamantly when on aggregate they are the ones most responsible for reproduction, and are the ones who let the mid-20's baby craving control them into doing something as evil as birthing. And even more ironically, creating more of the objectively worse men that are apparently detrimental to society.

There's nothing to appreciate. Men are ugly as hell compared to the beautiful form of the female body.
if you can't see the aesthetic of the ideal male appearance you're just a blind heterofag tbh

on average yeah women are leagues more attractive but thats because of social circumstances
if guys felt the same pressures (not to say most pressure doesn't come internally) men would be just as attractive if not more (because men are already much more pressured to exhibit attractive behaviors rather than just superficial appearances).

women have flat out worse personalities. wanna know one of the reasons why women have difficulty entering comedy? it's because they have a harder time substantiating anything funny.

The Dakotas are a myth.
It feels strange to realize that I'm a North Dakota resident now after living in Minnesota for 18 years.

Say hi to Bigfoot and Nessie for me will ya?
Funnily enough the majority of student here are from Minnesota.

« on: September 30, 2015, 11:47:21 AM »
I saw a 60 Minutes interview with PUTIN and he laughed when asked if Russia was trying to be a super power and basically said he finds it odd how every single move Russia does is portrayed as having ultra deep ulterior motive behind it.

While I'm not saying Russia is innocent of things, I think he brought up a good point, because CNN and other media sites aren't shutting up that they're just trying to keep Assad in power and not worry about ISIS at all, which I think is stupid.

Everyone is being effected by em.
To add to this there are a number of Russian citizens in the mess down there fighting for ISIS. When they left Russia didn't care because they thought they'd been rid of potential domestic threats, but since ISIS lasted longer than they anticipated, they are concerned about those militants coming back to Russia with experience and training.

Of course, this is all in service to Putin's master plan to prove Russia a competent power again, conservatives are right to posit that, but when they say we should discourage the action that's just dumb.

What will happen to the Kurds?!
Weren't the Kurds more or less about concerned about ISIS rather than Assad's regime? Basically if a group isn't against Assad, Russia won't hit them.

The fact that the Obama administration is not using this as an opportunity to thaw relations and find common ground with Russia says a lot.
Kiev could react negatively to that.
Now whether or not we should give a fuck about Kiev is another story, but we can expect politicians to care about Kiev.

Can anybody give me the downsides of a basic income guarantee? It seems like a decent idea, especially coupled with removal of wage laws, but I haven't read any actual criticism of it.
It incentivizes joblessness.
Do we wish to be a society that uses hunger and survival to incentivize work?

I don't see why minimum wage jobs should support a family with the lifestyle people demand today- a car, TV, internet, cell phones, etc. These are luxuries that for some reason seem to be expected.

Until you realize that getting a better job when you don't have :
1. A car to get to a job when you need to.
2. A phone for your employer to be able to call you on.
3. Internet to access resources that you are expected to have. (try checking your work email without having to take a trip to the public library, fucko).

Is entirely based on how lucky you are with your location. And you can't just fucking say "move to a better location where things are more accessible or affordable" if :
1. You don't have internet to research this information and find out.
2. A phone service to call and arrange all of the necessary things to move into a new place.
3. Transportation of your stuff to a new place.
4. You don't have the money to get all of these things

The "alternatives" are you having to spend a disproportionate amount of your time jumping between public resources in order to get these things, on top of your already shitty job with shitty hours.

Would you hire an employee if you knew he :
1. Can't be contacted on a whim.
2. Can be late just because of reasons outside his control (bus was late)
3. Cannot contact you on a whim.

Serious / Re: Basic income guarantee vs traditional welfare system?

I guess I find myself in the "dumb liberal" camp when I have the controversial opinion that society, government, and civilization as a whole continue to exist because of the social contract they make to ensure that there is at least a suitable base line of wealth that ensures that anyone in that society does not have to fear dipping into hunger, homelessness, and all the other characteristics associated with being wild animals.

because you fail to realize there is a difference between "this would have been better" and "this needs to be done this way"
which you then failed to apply to similar circumstances
and then tried excusing that inconsistency with an appeal to popularity

"Will taking care of the puppies myself mean that shelters have more resources they can distribute to other animals in need and thus better the conditions of others?"
"Yes, it likely will."

Then you do it. Simple. I cannot fathom how you've made this concept so needlessly contrived.
