OTT tho. I've thought about going the full emo look as a joke with the full black and mascara but I couldn't be bothered making myself look like an idiot. But yea people are right to say you should do what you want. if you get it the right shade of black it probably wouldn't look too bad.
With practice I found out if I use a black without any blues and more in the warmer blacks it doesn't look as bad.

That's how I kept my hair when I was younger. I kept it at my jaw line and had a bunch of really short layers. It was like the shaggy pixie and it worked for a stupid scenefag (that I was).
