Anyways, we're nine days away

For today's question, I want to know what your favourite line from any of the Metal Gears is and why.

My favourite is going to be the opening to MGS4. It's fucking amazing, even if I hate the game. Definitely one of the strongest scenes in gaming.

A close second is the false ending to Peace Walker, where BB takes the mantle of Big Boss finally. Awesome.
Why do you hate MGS4?
I still remember the first time I played it. And there was some soldier with the shits. He was even hiding in a trash can or something. I was like lol what the fuck.

I challenge you idgits to post things that aren't just Halo and Destiny.
Here you go.

Spoiler

If you go on GAF, it seems huge chunks of the story have been leaked. I red some :( Seems kinda... Crazy? Unexpected? Yeah, stuff like that. Basically. Some guy had a guide to the game. Pretty fancy looking and all. And well, we now know the story. Or most of it. Spoilers below for anyone wanting to read. I am not spoiling the story, or telling you anything about it. But for those who are interested, I will list the number of missions. So hyped, if it's true.

Spoiler
50 main story missions, 157 side missions

Could be off by a bit. But it's around there.

lol buying the same game each year
I'd argue that with any other sports game BUT FIFA honestly since they actually seem to be the only devs who put effort into their games.

But uhh, yeah, sports games are best bought every OTHER year.
What do they do for each game that can't be done in a simple update?
Mainly things that actually involve core gameplay mechanics being changed and re-working AI, and other things such as features with franchise and what not.

The best way to look at it is, you can put band-aids (updates) over a flaw, but it will still be there and show its ugly head. The best way to do it is to actually go back and re-work it from the root of the problem and allow for a more cohesive product.

Other things such as physics as well, cannot be fixed with simple updates.

Honestly, if you want the best example, just look at Total War Rome 2 and look at the patches it added on. While it fixes a lot of the issues, it still LOOKS like a mess and fails in comparison to the games prior, and even Attila.
Well... Technically, a patch could add new game mechanics, or re-worked AI, and just about anything else really...

I'm not genius in this area. So correct me if I'm wrong. But aren't places with extreme levels of radiation supposed to be uninhabitable for a long time? Even 1000s of years. Like Chernobyl.

File size is confirmed 25GB. For US at least. Could be different for EU because languages and stuff. Pre-Load not on PC. It better be on PS4. I work 4AM-1PM now, so I can't stay up late anymore. I need this game as soon as possible though lol.
Language isn't going to dramatically changee the size of the game
Now I could have sworn there was a game or two in the EU that forced you to download a language pack, which added entire GigaBytes of files.

I haven't played through all the MG games, and haven't played most in a long long time. So tell me this. In a recent Japanese trailer, they're hyping up some reveal. The final mystery they say. Has it actually never been explained why Big Boss went to the bad side?

1270
Anyone remember the 5 minute or so hospital demo? So ready for that part. The opening, apparently. But lots of people are hyping it up. One person says that part alone makes MGSV GOTY.

Yeah, apparently it's "dripping with atmosphere" and is over an hour long.
Oh, can't wait. But who the fuck is that flaming guy? And Ishmael? He can't be real.

I played it for the first time back in February or so. Loved it, except for that snow level towards the end. Felt like I was playing Destiny. If you know what I mean.

The Covenant worship the Forerunners. We have gone on Forerunner planets, and (I think), studied some of their technology. The Covenant doesn't like that. By the way, you'll have a lot of questions, and not all of them will be answered unless you go read lore on the internet.

Played the Beta, didn't buy it.

True Underdog has played Destiny pretty much every day since launch. It's all he plays.
I don't get how. There's like a weeks worth of content if you stretch your playtime out.
Just like any other game like Destiny. Eventually you'll finish all the content, whether there's 20 hours worth of it, or 200 hours worth of it. Then replay for fun, and loot.
Except Destiny is a poorly designed game with no replay value
For some people it is. Not for everyone though. Obviously. Basically, you love it, or you hate it. It's that simple.
Destiny is objectively a poorly designed game
I agree. There's huge chunks that just don't make sense. And it's taken a year to finally get a lot of things right. People have fun with it though. That's what I'm saying.

A game like Fallout: New Vegas has easily +100 hours of gameplay value on one save. That doesn't count potentially replaying it for all four factions and the multitiude of various quest endings and so forth. That's easily 400 hours of content right there, with very heavy replay value.

Destiny has a "story" mode and the same grindy fetch quests that are all the same thing with a different voice telling you what to do. Oh! and then some bigger linear missions that you can only do with multiplayer (So if you're offline or don't want to interact with other people while playing games (Which is a perfectly okay thing), then you're fucked) and then can repeat again and again for all of eternity in the same recycled environments! Yay!

Seriously. Trying to compare something like Destiny to a proper RPG or a proper MMO is like comparing an RC helicopter to actually flying the damn thing. It's like mmo lite.
That was my point. A game can have 20 hours worth of content. And another game could have 200 hour worth of content. In the end, it's up to the individual to decide if replaying is fun or not.

Thought so. I've always wanted to try making a game. But, eh. I don't think I could.

Is anyone else worried about the story? There seems to be a lack of cutscenes, or they just haven't shown many. And no doubt, story was sacrificed because of the open ended gameplay. I'm really interested in the beginning. I heard it's pretty linear, and amazing. I remember reading about it, where someone was able to see/play it. That hospital section, from the first trailer for the game, back when we didn't even know if it was MGS.

Yeah, oh my god.

I didn't want to jinx it or anything, but I feel like there's... not going to be any story at all.

I love the gameplay but I love the story mode more than anything else... if it's going to be an exact opposite of MGS4 I'm going to be disappointed.
It doesn't need to be as cutscene/story heavy as MGS4, and it can't be. But it doesn't need be be light on it either. I imagine the opening will be full of story, assuming it's linear as I think it will be. But after that, I dunno. Especially with Kojima saying you can complete any missions in any order, and still get the message by the end. Audio logs make me very worried. I wanted some scripted events and cutscenes. Not Exposition dumps and reading like Destiny.

No, I mean it's never going to have a stable framerate because CDPR are dumb and insist on using outdated stuff like double buffer v-sync
Ah. V-Sync is necessary. Though I'm not sure on the specifics. I think there's even triple buffering. Don't want too much screen tearing.
you're not getting what i'm saying

double buffer v-sync is shitty and outdated and is the reason it locks to 20fps
triple buffer v-sync is what any competent developer uses these days
Gotcha.

Not yet.
The framerate is never going to be stable.
I'd be fine with a locked 30FPS. They could downgrade the graphics some, though I doubt they'd do that. Eh, I should have bought it for my PC, but ah well. I played it, for a long time, and really enjoyed it. Can't complain.
