sometimes high res makes low fidelity style worse because blurry textures in high res look like a hot shit

you get cleaner lines in the end but depends on what you prefer

nobody has listed an actual advantage the PC has over the switch
depends on what you see as an advantage and if you dont think any of the capabilities of the pc arent worth getting over the switch thats fine and thats on you

im not going to say some people dont like older or simpler graphics cause thats not true but if you prefer the other then you would prefer one platform over another

i dont think this needs to be discussed further than get the platform with the games you want on it or the games that will be released for it

initially its going to cost a lot more than a console but vs console gaming is a lot cheaper and youd see that difference within a year
i mean, not if you know how to buy games for your console

e.g. not buying them new
even if every game was half price just 20 games will go over that

though i guess if you dont play that much games then a console will still be cheaper

I also just realised that I could be playing the Switch on my flight to California and the following drives around that state. So maybe it's worth it?

I could also just buy something for my 2DS.
Are you really gonna play a video game when you're visiting somewhere?

What is your budget for a PC? Because if you can't run most games it's not worth it dude.

id be playing games when im

a) flying
b) travelling (apparently where we're staying is about an hour from LA/Anaheim/San Diego so idk)
c) chilling outside at night before i go to bed or something

and my budget is exactly what a nintendo switch would cost, plus 100 bucks.
Get a Switch

why
Because with that budget you'll only be able to play old games on PC. With the Switch at least you'll be able to play Zelda.

500 budget is more than enough to play modern games
Not really. You'd be playing at low to medium settings with frame rate issues. Do you already have a mouse, keyboard, and monitor?
he could get a 1050ti build which is more than enough for 60fps on 1080 medium if he didnt have to spend anything on a keyboard and monitor
I guess but my mindset is go big or go home so you can play on ultra settings with heavy mods if you want. Otherwise there's no point playing games on PC.

medium looks better than most console games do and you can still get a smoother experience, plus games are also cheaper so theres more than just graphics as an advantage to playing games on pc

not to mention more controller options and being able to change the way you play instead of being locked into the console ecosystem

PlayStation sales tho.
unless you can get 25+ AA games for less than 10 dollars vs the steam library youre often struck by the overabundance of choice on steam than you are wondering about whether you should get 2 or 3 games you want on playstation

a lot of those games are on pc anyway, xbox play anywhere is releasing pc games for xbox exclusive titles and games like ace combat are getting pc releases too

not at max and it would be a bottom of the barrel destitute gaming build, id say 600 at least for a build that would last you at least 2 years before you want your first upgrade; that said the 500 bucks pc would still be more powerful than a console, but might also not perform better because of the hardware specific software optimization that consoles have

if you dont have a keyboard, mouse and monitor already youd only be able to afford a home pc

pc gaming only saves more money in the longer run because the games you will buy at steam sales will literally cost like several bucks as opposed to buying like say 10 new games at launch, which will be like 600 by itself

initially its going to cost a lot more than a console but vs console gaming is a lot cheaper and youd see that difference within a year

The one in that abandoned station in EYE Divine Cybermancy. The turrets will easily gun you down in less than a second, even with heavy armor on, and you can't even tell where they are unless you've already played the mission a few times.
i think the op means a turret section where youre like at a turret just shooting things on-rails for like 5 minutes

not a turret section where youre supposed to avoid turrets

also theyre pretty much exactly the same as the portal and half life turrets

Not that well versed in UK politics but I got Tories as usual.
That's bad. Tories are cutting funding for police departments, restricting the interwebz, and May is saying she'll take away human rights if it gets in the way of terrorism, which is easily a slippery slope.

Don't side with Margaret Thatcher 2.0.
1. I don't live in the U.K.
2. It's just an online test. I'm far from picking sides. Like I said, I'm not that well versed in UK politics.
IT DOESN'T MATTER WHERE YOU'RE FROM OR WHAT IT IS

overclocking at one point in time was genuinely kinda dangerous

now anyone can do it with motherboards and CPUs that are designed for it with many failsafes and preventative measures that wont have any long term effects on your hardware

the reason why they dont sell K processors overclocked out of the box is because of micro imperfections or such that could affect the overclocking capability - if you buy a K series, you're generally guaranteed a decent overclock, but some chips perform much better than others and can handle much higher clock speeds at lower voltages, which means they can run much faster and much colder

when you buy a K series, the scenario is pretty much YMMV, so anyone can hit say X speed with a fair amount of voltage, but some might get even higher with even less voltage, so its pretty much a lottery of how much you can get using as little power as possible

enthusiasts call this the "silicon lottery"

oh yeah, sure thing
game on \m/
what do you think happens when you overclock

my idles and max load is still about 10 degrees colder than a ps4 while running stress tests

Spoiler
i'm sure that makes it all worth the risk
what risk

worst that can happen with a modern cpu is the motherboard throttles the speed and your cpu just runs slower to cool it down
if you put your mind to it, i'm sure you can imagine something worse than that happening

general rule of thumb—if what you're doing voids the warranty, it's probably not worth doing in the end

intel K series chips are chips that are manufactured well enough that they put them aside to sell unlocked, so you could say they were put aside and sold separately as they have the potential to perform much better than a non-K processor

of course intel says this just so they can refuse you but it would cost more for them to check if youve overclocked than to send you a new processor altogether

how do intel know if youve overclocked a processor? they don't, unless you tell them you did, and they can't say that you did, but they almost certainly expect it, especially with their unlocked CPUs, at the same time theyll happily send you a new one anyway, theres no point in buying a K series chip if youre not going to overclock it

running at stock, theyre identical to the non-K versions, so their overclocking capability is the entire reason the K series exists in the first place, theres also a premium on the price you pay for the unlocked CPU

in other words you just risk making your pc even slower with a bad OC

anyone who wants to disable the safety stuff either gets whats coming to them or they know what theyre doing and have some crazy cooling setups

no

The CPU clock is wrong btw, it's actually 4.2ghz. Don't know why Speccy doesn't track overclocking.
probably because the stock clock is part of the name

you can get hwmonitor and look at max clock to see what it really is

even if youre sure you should check anyway in case thermal throttling is stopping it from running at OC speeds
