Taken down my first solo Rathian and Anjanarath. What's the best way to use a Gunlance against them? All I'm able to do is turtle up in their face and poke at their head, I barely get a chance to use the gun.
bruh just practice, learn the weapon and the monster.
I've had a hard time with Anja in this game cos he's a new mon, whereas rathian is piss cos she's the same she's always been
I use the Gunlance against most things, my best time to attack is always when it's distracted by my Palico though. Don't get much time to get my artillery combos going when it's knocking me on my ass.

 Finished watching Samurai Champloo. Was hell of a watch, I loved how fluid the animation was and characters were awesome. The soundtrack was pretty great too. I really liked how the actual plot was pretty thin and allowed for more varied self contained episodes they could get creative with.

Okay well personally I enjoy the crafting and gathering gear aspect of it. Running around the world, picking up bits and bobs to create items and weapons/armor feels satisfying, especially when it involves hunting down specific monsters to get that sweet bone-sword or whatever. Plus teaming up with friends to kill these horrific monsters and take home the rewards is actually quite enjoyable. I can guarantee it's not for everyone though because some of these bastards take a while to kill and you might get bored of it, but goddamn some of the weapons are fun to use.
