I will unashamedly admit that DS2+its DLC is my favorite Souls game.
Im still yet to get//e/ far into ds2 but
It feels decidedly undark souls to me
Based on how much ive seen of dark souls 1 and demons souls and how much ive played ds3
You may end up hating it as some people do, it's got some quirks and questionable design choices that drag it down. But it has the best weapons, armor and DLC I think, for the most part. Hell, if not for a certain few DS1 and 3 bosses I'd say DS2 has the best bosses too (in the DLC, anyway)

There was like no story at all in ds3 which didnt ruin anything
Ds2 is pretty disconnected frm ds1
And ds1 is the first in the series
Its almost like they were meant to be played backwards
the story isn't overtly given to you--you just pick up on bits and pieces of lore sequestered in loading screens, item descriptions, and character dialogue, after which the story slowly begins to come together
it probably doesn't hurt to play the games out of sequential order, but there is story if you actively seek it out
basically, they knew that a lot of people liked video games, but not everybody cares to have some boring story shoved down their throat as they're trying to play--so in order not to alienate those players, they made it so if you wanted to know the game's story, you had to go out of your way to learn about it
Dunno if you know this little tidbit, but the reason its story is so vague and fragmented is because Miyazaki was really into old western stories and legends but the language barrier led to him basically trying to piece it together himself, which later inspired him while making DS.

It doesn't ruin anything it just isn't what MOST people online choose to do. Freedom of choice in a roll playing game isn't a bad thing. Not to mention There's still thousands of people pvping above 120.
It's literally no different than smogon rules in Pokemon
Then give me a pause feature. Freedom of choice, and you don't have to use it if you don't want to.
Also, Smogon rules should be official, too.

Even though Mew has existed in the game's code since the beginning, its existence was largely kept under wraps--even by the developers of the games themselves--until around the time the first movie was released. So, for all intents and purposes, for the first year of the game's lifespan in the west, there kinda were only 150.
It's kinda like how they announced Shaymin and Arceus way late into Gen IV's lifespan. We thought there were only 491.
I actually knew the entire Gen 4 dex way before it came out because it was all in an issue of the Pokemon World magazine, though the names were different. Arceus was Arseus and Dialga was Diaruga or something.
