The Flood / So apparently I have a weird laugh.
« on: April 17, 2017, 08:31:08 PM »
I found some PS4 clips that have me laughing in them and cobbled them together.

YouTube

You be the judge, is my laugh really that odd?

243
Y'know how the PS4 browser opens up the last thing you searched when you go on it? Well me and my girlfriend were sitting on the bed and I was looking for a film to watch online so I opened up the browser. Unfortunately, Pornhub came up because I'd been watching some biology videos so I started panicking silently.

Luckily her back was turned to the television so I had to calmly try and keep a straight face while changing the search, lol.

244
Slit her throat and stabbed her in the face. She's been in critical condition all week. Sucks.

It's weird how you read about it and think 'shit, I remember him from school. That's weird.'

Did anyone you used to know go and do any crazy shit?

The fight is a bit long because I kept missing my Zweihander swings but jesus fucking Christ am I glad I finally toppled him in the end. I was wearing my headset at the time so I managed to capture my reaction too, which is nice.

What do you guys think of it? I got it the other day and I'm enjoying it so far, it's more or less the same as XV1 but I like it.

Blocking feels too hard to pull off though.

The Flood / I am not sure if Sons of Anarchy was a good show or not
« on: April 09, 2017, 03:55:04 PM »
I mean it started off good but towards the end it went heavily off the rails a bit. I really don't know what to think of it. Did I like it? I have no clue.

Can anyone else that's seen it weigh in on this

« on: March 26, 2017, 10:58:57 AM »
I have very minor interaction with the series apart from playing a demo of the first game that came with Resident Evil:Code Veronica X years ago. It gave me fucking nightmares. My cousin is always going on about how good it is so I decided to get the HD collection a go.

Pretty good so far, the platforming sections are a bit iffy though.

The Flood / Power Rangers review
« on: March 24, 2017, 07:39:44 PM »
I want to preface this review by saying I'm going to do my best to remain unbiased. If you know me, you'll know that I'm a giant fucking nerd for all things dumb and over the top and silly awesome. MGR (shut up it's amazing), Pacific Rim, TTGL, Transformers. All that is golden to me so it's to be expected I'd gush over something like this but I'll try to remain as unbiased as possible, so without further ado...

POWER RANGERS

In a world of endless reboots, sequels, remakes and adaptions, you'd be forgiven for just brushing this off as yet another attempt at reviving another franchise and in a way it is, but it was actually done really quite well. I think reboots and adaptions are a tricky thing because you can either keep the material exactly the same as the source and risk people complaining that it's just more of the same, or you can change it too much and risk it being so different that there's no point in making it in the first place. I believe this movie did a really good job of sticking to the MMPR source material but also expanding on it a great deal.

Remember back in the original show,  how the Rangers were basically stereotypes of their respective backgrounds? Jason was the noble martial artist, Billy was the nerd, Kimberly was the pretty girl? They were such deep characters, right? Who can forget Zordon, the floating mentor head in a tube who gives them orders? Remember how he was just overflowing with character and emotion? Me neither. In this movie adaption, the characters are given so much more to do. Each member of the team has their own motivations and struggles that they have to overcome.

I actually think the characters themselves were my favorite part of the whole movie, even. I was very surprised at how much I enjoyed seeing the team grow and interact with each other throughout. While none of them had majorly drastic changes (they all started off as nice people and ended as nice people) they still had to learn to work together as a team in order to save the day and that's where the movie's strengths lie. I went into this expecting a horrible attempt at a gritty reboot with bad acting and characters I'd hate but I got the opposite.
While the movie is somewhat grounded (come on, it kinda has to be these days) it really didn't come across as gritty or serious at all. The villain was hammy as all fuck (more on that later) and the movie actually had quite a few funny jokes here and there.

The acting was surprisingly good. Jason doesn't come across as a pretty boy douche at all and does a good job as the team's leader, a fallen star who has issues with his daddy.  From the trailers I was expecting Billy to be the worst, but when you actually see him in the movie and see where the lines are coming from, it fits so much better. He's also autistic. A black autist! The yellow ranger is also an implied lesbian! Progression FTW!

I'm not really quite sure what to make of Rita Repulsa though. She's batshit crazy and chews the scenery to no end, so in that regard she's a good adaption of the antagonist of the show. I'm not too entirely sure on whether or not she clashes with the tone of the rest of the movie. (Again, it's not too gritty or anything)

Bill Hader was actually quite enjoyable as the usually insufferable Alpha 5 and Bryan Cranston brought some depth to Zordon that I wasn't expecting.

The action was alright, it had that fast-slow-mo stuff that every movie rips off and some of the CGI on the Zords was a bit iffy. I liked that they actually got the individual Zords in on the action rather than just jump straight into the combination sequence. Speaking of the Megazaord, the fight scene between it and Goldar was pretty cool. You could actually tell what was going on. It wasn't in the movie much but it did its job. Wish you actually got to see it form though...

So yeah, uh negatives... As I already said, the villain MIGHT be a bit too hammy and clash a bit with the rest of the movie but then again, it's fucking Power Rangers so she's SUPPOSED to be hammy. Hell, you might even love her. She certainly did fit the role. Some of the CGI looked a bit off and I think they could have done a bit more with the yellow and black rangers. I also wish the Power Rangers theme was used in the movie more.

Ok I'm going to go into a bit of spoilers now but I doubt any of you care. I'll spoiler it anyway

Spoiler
Right at the start of the movie you find out that Zordon was the former Red Ranger and Rita was the Green one who went nuts and betrayed her team to try and steal the fucking ZEO CRYSTAL. Does this mean we're gonna get Zeo? Fuck yeah I hope so. Also there's a mid credits scene where you find out there's a new kid in class. Three guesses who his name is.

So idk if you got anything from this review but I'll summarize it. It does a good job in giving the rangers actually personalities and likability as a team. Hell, that's the best part of the damn movie! It's not as stupidly cheese as the show was so if you're after dumb non stop action shlock you might not find it in this movie. I wouldn't be too put off by the trailers, because I really was too but I took a dive and saw it anyway and was pleasantly surprised. You might find the slow buildup to the morphing scene to be a bit of a drag but it personally didn't bother me too much.

I'd give it a 7.5/10 tbh

Quote
Eamonn Holmes has said he thinks Westminster Bridge was re-opened too soon, following the devastating terror attack that happened on Wednesday.

Five people died and at least 40 were injured after a knife-wielding terrorist drove a car into pedestrians before he attacked a police officer outside the Houses of Parliament.

And the This Morning host and his wife Ruth Langsford walked along the bridge on their way to work earlier today, after it re-opened.

However, they both confessed how difficult it was seeing tourists taking photos outside Big Ben, knowing that people had been killed there just two days earlier.

Speaking on the ITV daytime show, Eamonn said: "It's opened too quickly.

"Politicians can talk about having a stiff upper lip, but it should've been closed for longer out of common decency.

She said: "I do understand though, I was speaking to a photographer and it's saying we will not be beaten."

Yesterday, Eamonn relived revealed Ruth ALWAYS drives home from Loose Women over Westminster Bridge at the time the London attacks happened - but she didn't, by "some freaky chance", the day it happened.

And Eamonn explained how worried he was when he couldn't get hold of his Loose Women panelist wife when the terrible news broke.

"Walking past there and seeing where people had been killed, it was very hard.

Do you agree? I certainly don't, closing it just shows weakness. Also it's a fucking bridge that people use to cross, it needs to be kept open.

I'll try and get a review up afterwards so I can tell you all if it's good or not. You all obviously trust my judgement so I'm doing you all a great service.

I think it's mainly due to the villain, Captain Salazar actually looks fucking awesome and weird. I know there's probably going to be loads of crap comedy in it and the new male/female characters are going to blow but I'm just looking forward to seeing Javier Bardem playing some decaying drowned pirate zombie captain.

Logan is a heart-warming, charming tale about an ageing man taking a quiet young girl on a road trip across America. It’s full of interesting characters, a joyous atmosphere and exciting story developments. The ageing man that the film centers on is James, also known as Logan. Also known as Wolverine. You see where this is going right?

Charming.

Logan takes place in the not too distance future of the X-Men franchise, but make no mistake: This isn’t an X-Men film. In somewhat the same vein as his previous solo outings X-Men Origins and The Wolverine, Logan is a story that isn’t too concerned with the happenings of the other members of the X-Men, instead focusing on Logan and his own troubles. If you know the character, you will no doubt be familiar with Logan’s brutal combat prowess and his very, very sharp adamantium claws, along with his tragic, troubled past. Due to this movie’s age rating of 15, Logan is allowed to run very, oh so very wild and it is very, oh so very satisfying indeed.

This isn’t the same Logan as before.

After spending 17 years playing a relatively tame beast, only allowing his savage nature to shine through for brief periods of time, it’s both refreshing and terrifying to see lead actor Hugh Jackman finally unleashing the beast inside and giving us a Wolverine that’s both incredibly efficient and savagely wild at the same time while tearing his way through the countless victims that stand in his way. The movie’s action is visceral, heart-pounding and terrific and  it’s been a while that a film has caused me to be so rooted in my seat, gripping the sides with shaking hands. Limbs fly off, faces are gouged and flesh is carved. Each slice feels meaty and powerful, each stab feels precise and surgical. These claws were made for slicing, and that’s just what they’ll do.

Remember that amazing scene in X-2 when Wolverine kills those soldiers? This movie is all that and then some.

Of course the movie isn’t all action, there are breather moments in between them that really give you a chance to regroup and take a nice rest before the next bloodbath. It’s these moments of downtime that really give the movie its atmosphere and feeling. The basic plot of the movie is about a now grizzled and aged Logan, trying to care for a sickly Charles Xavier (portrayed brilliantly by Patrick Stewart) in a world where there’s no more mutants. Of course matters are complicated with the arrival of a mysterious young girl known as Laura (portrayed by newcomer Dafne Keen). Without wandering into spoiler territory, Laura is endowed with certain ‘gifts’ that make her a valuable target for the film’s villains, portrayed menacingly by Richard E Grant and Boyd Holbrook. Usually I might find myself feeling a bit bored or distracted during slow moments of high-intensity action movies but I found myself totally invested during this film. The scenes between Logan, Charles and Laura were full of touching moments that really brought them together as a dysfunctional sort-of-family. Even British comedy favorite Steven Merchant had his time to shine as Caliban, the albino caretaker of Xavier while Logan wasn’t around.

Logan still has his healing factor of course but due to his age it has slowed down considerably and he takes a much more noticeable amount of damage than before. He’s often slow and sluggish in his movements and tears and gunshot wounds remain on his body, causing him obvious pain and discomfort. Injuries that he once shrugged off as nothing now visibly damage him, a tragic reminder of the fact that this new (old?) Logan is not the invincible killing machine that he once was. Of course he’s still a total badass during action scenes but there’s a feeling of inevitability and impending doom that grows larger and larger during each set piece, creeping up on Logan with every hit he takes.

A tragic, bittersweet closing chapter for the character’s long, twisted life.

Though he wasn’t always the most happy chap on the planet, the titular Logan is now a bitter, gruff old man. He frequently swears, takes swigs of liquor and really doesn’t have time for anyone’s nonsense. He’s at the end of his rope so to speak and when Laura shows up, you can really tell he wants nothing to do with her. He doesn’t want trouble, he just wants to buy a boat. Really. Throughout the film you do start to see Logan and Laura bond, slowly becoming more friendly towards each other, his tough outer shell cracking ever so slightly to let her in. By the end of it you’re left with a true sense of finality and closure as Logan’s story ends with a bittersweet closing chapter that’s both heartbreaking and heartwarming. The X-Men series may continue, but the story of Logan, The Wolverine, is over.

If you’re a fan of superhero movies, action movies, character studies or dramas, I think you’ll enjoy this. A well balanced mix of intense action and character building scenes with a good dynamic between the characters really help the film move along at a pace that doesn’t feel at all rushed or slow. A fitting end to the story of one of the most well known and loved characters of comic book history. It’s going to be strange not seeing Hugh Jackman playing Wolverine anymore but it had to end at some point. I’m very pleased to say that it wasn’t disappointing at all and I am very satisfied with the way the story wrapped up the way it did. We’ll miss you, Logan.

Gaming / I don't feel impressed by graphics anymore.
« on: March 03, 2017, 05:15:03 PM »
I mean, the jump from PS2 to PS3 felt so significant that I was really impressed by how good the games looked. But the jump from PS3 to PS4 felt like less of a big deal.  I KNOW the games have better graphics but at this point it's just like 'yeah, it's not bad but I'm not amazed or anything.'

It's just expected that all the games look good nowadays, nothing wows me. Does anyone else feel the same way?
