I did mission 43 finally last night.

I have to say it's probably the best narrative mission in the game (I wish we had more quality like that), but I think some people really were overhyping how emotional it was.

However when they all salute you, THAT part was kinda morbid and "oof...." feeling. Other than that, eh... I was just happy for some freaking cutscenes and emotion.

Not everything has some crazy lore behind it. The simple fact of the matter was Hayter was doing each installment of Big Boss worse and worse, and Peace Walker really showed that.

They needed a change that fit the look and tone of Big Boss much more, and Sutherland apparently fit.

I think it's more fanservice. It's more than obvious Big Boss and Solid sound different. Besides, since Hideo is so "pro-western" and his games literally ride on American lore for a lot of his canon, AND he cares a lot about who casts for the English voice actors

I'd say it's canon they're different. But again, it's how you interpret it. I like to think you can look like someone and not sound the same. Twins don't sound the same either. I would assume clones don't.

Well, we know Big Boss looked and sounded identical to Solid in his youth. His voice change in MGS5 was ostensibly because
Spoiler
it isn't really Big Boss, but both Bosses have the same actor, so that rather muddles the whole thing.

I assume Solid Snake's lifetime of smoking as well as quickened aging altered his voice; perhaps if he had gone nine years without a cig he'd have sounded like Keifer Southerland as well.
You'd be a better boxer than Muhammad Ali with that long reach.

Fun fact: The Teutonic Order is still around. They've somewhat returned to their original purpose (escorting German Christian settlers and establishing hospitals) in recent years, providing spiritual and physical care to Germans abroad. Pretty cool if you ask me.
Not slaughtering? Bah!

That's how I felt about MGS V

This forced romance between Quiet and Snake hurts. Just got the rain cutscene where they do that awkward laughing (the only time Boss actually laughs at all, or smiles in the story happily).

It was handled so much better in MGS3, even if it was a cheesy 80's movie style.

Much like how we associate huge empires with the English accent because of the British Empire (Rome, Galactic Empire, etc).

Thanks, brits.

I suspect it's more because no one wants to listen to an Italians speaking for an hour and a half.
Latin and Italian are two completely different sounding languages. Media just potrays huge empires with an English accent for whatever reason.

I'd expect an Italian accent is closer to a Roman one than a cut-glass Oxford one.
Well yeah. They obviously didn't sound British, I'm just going by how the media potrays empirical powers (when they're white. I should mention that.)

A soldier to surpass Metal Gear.

But seriously though Venom Snake is A+ in every category. That guy is better than him in every way.
Maybe he's the guy who replaces Venom Snake and is his doppelganger an- no? Okay.

Hm... well if I deploy as him and he dies, is he gone for good? He's not as fast as Snake either :<

I'll start in a bit I suppose, but here. Have some Mongolian throat singing music I enjoy.

For some reason this style of music is in Attila even though the Huns aren't... Mongolian, but I suppose it's because they're supposedly from the same region and that's all we can closely associate it with. Much like how we associate huge empires with the English accent because of the British Empire (Rome, Galactic Empire, etc).

Thanks, brits.

I never finished Peace Walker

Not spending 3 hours soloing PW m8y. It would have been different if I played in its prime.
I couldn't either before MGS V came out. Just watch the movie on YouTube, it still gives you the amazing experience.

It's long but I highly recommend it. You'll enjoy the story, trust me. If you have to, watch it in bursts.

I gotta get the Outer Heaven logo and complete motherbase.

Don't bother. The way that the emblem creator is setup doesn't allow for the logo to be centered properly. It's too much to the right.

It makes my OCD go crazy.
Noooooooooooooo

Well it's still a goal. Maybe MSF, idk, but I wouldn't mind the off center really I don't think. They won't notice it when invading your FoB.

Also, put this song on and the Solid Snake skin when infiltrating if you're PC players

Never played it but from the scary games I HAVE played, I'd say night. You wanna immerse yourself as much as possible, so that means nighttime, lights off, and headphones if you can.

Which is fine, but the fact he doesn't talk in important cutscenes is also a pretty bad problem. He doesn't talk a lot in the tapes either honestly. He is massively underused.

and you hire someone like Kiefer Sutherland who costs a shit load of money to do it).

Which is why he never talks.
It's a contract they hire him by, not a dollar per word. And with how much money MG games cost over time, that's no excuse anyway. He talked enough in Ground Zeroes.

Oh, one more thing.

The Venom Snake twist is so fucking retarded. It's Big Boss for all intents and purposes until the end. I know this game (MG1) is over 20 years old, but there was really no point in giving him a clone, especially since we were promised to see Big Boss "turn into a demon". Talk about false advertising. That and Big Boss literally says at the end of that game "this isn't the end. We will meet again!"

That right there is our "phantom pain". A bunch of lies in advertising for a sub par character (which is stupid because he NEVER talks, and you hire someone like Kiefer Sutherland who costs a shit load of money to do it).

MGS V is a massive disappointment for me. Perfect gameplay, but repetitive missions and a story that takes a back seat = one of my least favorite in the series.

I have to say, and I know this will be hated by a lot of people

I enjoyed my first playthrough of MGS 4 far more than MGS V. Why? Because even though the story and cutscenes were fuck awful long, at least it HAD a damn story. It's such a crime everything is removed in this game, and the few cutscenes are ARE good, are so few and far in between.

If the rest of the game was released as paid DLC, would you buy it?
Honestly? I'm not really sure. I am struggling to just get the true endings right now. This game feels like a fucking grind fest to me, and I am really hating it. The stealth is cool, but you can only do it so many times before it just gets old.

Run to someplace, infiltrate, extract/destroy something, repeat. I'm just waiting for online now really, and thinking the FOB stuff will keep me on, but this main story and side op crap is really just not doing it for me. This is easily one of my least favorite MGS games. Never have I actually STRUGGLED to get to an ending to these games.

Edit; Well maybe Peace Walker, but after I redid it and got it on PS3, I was enjoying it a lot. The story actually kept me INTERESTED.

So when infiltrating FOB bases, is there a point to extracting soldiers or would I do better to just sneak to the goal?

Ishmael has so much personality, Ahab has... none. Listen to Ishmael in the beginning. He's spouting action movie one-liners like it's nothing. "We gave her a light, she took the short way down." "Nothing like a little digoxin to get ya' back in the game."
I too saw the Super Bunnyhop review

What?
You just said the exact words he said on it, it was a bit of a joke.

Anyway, in terms of the talking thing, I think that's reaching too far. Snake didn't give a lick of words either but he rambles to hell in the sequel and the games after. It was just how games were back then with little to no story.

The more I play this game, the more I get depressed when I get Peace Walker characters thrown at me. Why?

Because that game had so much more effort put into the story and soundtrack. God damn does the story for MGS V and the soundtrack suck compared to ANY OTHER MGS game. Seriously. NONE of this game came close to having lovable characters either like Peace Walker. Strangelove had personality, hell even Huey did too.

Ocelot is just a radio dictionary too I should add, and them never showing him going to grumpy old man bothered me. Though seeing his little torture scenes, I must admit did a good job. Like putting that needle under Huey's leg. That's Ocelot torture for ya.

Also, at no point in this game did the story reach the same climax or same tension as the nuke scene in the war room in Peace Walker. Such a massive fucking disappointment. If this was any other game I wouldn't mind, but when it's an entry to a franchise renowed and built on intricate storytelling, cutscenes, and dialogue? It's just so bad.

The gameplay is honestly the ONLY saving grace to this game if you ask me, and that's even tested to the max with the constant repetitive fucking missions you're given. All of these characters are handled poorly in my opinion, ALL. OF. THEM.

The potential was so great too, but nope, nothing happens. I guess that's the players PHANTOM PAIN LOL KOJIMA SO GENIUS!
