Okay after seeing it all, let's nitpick and analyze.
First off, the dude playing fucking sucks and it was annoying me. Second, I came in ready to hate this video and say how shitty CoD is as usual, but after sitting down and watching and reflecting to other CoD games, I am giving this an honest thought.
Black woman in the German military fighting. Don't even gotta touch that, so let's just assume it's like Battlefield 1 in that the multiplayer isn't trying to be very accurate, where as the single player is. Gonna appeal to the mass audience, I get it (though I think placing women in a WW2 game is really pushing it).
It's a compressed video, so I can't really be accurate with the look, BUT; Lighting looks a fuck ton better, but textures still look very muddy. Still not leading the FPS genre in any sort of looks though like it used to around CoD 4 (with consoles at least), which is disappointing.
Gunshot sounds sound like complete compressed ass. Battlefield has spoiled me with bullets flying by and guns firing. I did manage to hear sniper bolt when clearing between shots though and that sounded metallic, so a good thing there. However it's hard to listen over these idiots talking, so this isn't accurate at all.
UI seems simplistic, which is nice.
Minimap looks like classic CoD games and you and friendly icons flash when firing, so that's good in coordinating where enemies are
There are CUTSCENES BETWEEN ROUNDS (and at the beginning, bonus) which is fucking awesome. That hasn't been done since Battlefield Bad Company 2 and I really wish they'd bring it back.
Finally, showing soldiers in the lobby between games is a nice look to things. They look pretty neat.
Overall, I don't know. I detested what CoD has become over the years, having no interest since Black Ops 2 in the slightest, mainly because of how the game slowly became less about gunplay, and more about killstreaks (though really this has been since MW2, where my liking of the series slowly started to wane). But this game really does sort of actually have my attention. I don't know if I'll get it or not. I have a whole summer to decide though, so the more I see of gameplay, the more I'll make my decision. I know it'll keep the CoD formula which I am not too keen on, but if killstreaks are not the central point of this game where they just dominate the field, and are more so just a slight assistant, it'll be something I consider.

MW3 was pretty great fam, gets a lot of undeserved flak.
Exactly. In fact I'd argue MW2 was the last time the series actually tried anything new and daring. Maybe this is a turning point.
Doubt it. Sorry, but no. MW3's multiplayer was boring as shit, and the sprint animations made me want to rip my eyes out. Running with the shotgun was never so horrible. It also still looks like complete shit. Maybe get off the 2005 engine.

Okay nevermind I saw actual gameplay. Yeah looks like the same tripe bullshit that I stopped loving about CoD a long time ago.
And lol a black woman in the German army in WW2. Yeah, okay.
I don't think the MP is even trying to be accurate to history. Let's see how the SP does.

Honestly, if CoD abandoned the same tripe it's been pushing for years and takes notes from Battlefield, I wouldn't mind it at all. It'd feel more like a war at least and less like paintball.
Then play battlefield dammit. We haven't had a good simple shooting gallery since Black Ops 2.

Huh, had to look some of this up to learn it. I'm glad I learned a new an interesting thing.
I wonder if the Waffen-SS will be in Wolfenstein.

Speaking of Swastikas earlier... I think it's cut from the game period. You don't even play as them. Would be SS, right? You play as regular Wehrmacht.
Well yeah, the Wehrmacht were the national fighting force of the German military, which included the Navy, Army, and Airforce. It was the same in World at War. Plus they weren't the ones killing the Jews left and right. The swastika still applied across the entire German nation though. Because of its closer link to the Nazi Party, the Waffen-SS was entrusted to act against internal and political enemies whereas the Wehrmacht was to focus on foreign enemies. So basically one is a normal military, the other is special forces along with silencing dissidents. That being said, the SS and Wehrmacht worked together and had a complicated relationship, along with fighting side by side because Germany needed the manpower. Had they won, the difference between them would be more obvious (such as the pure racial requirements to join the SS, but that was abandoned later in the war since they needed manpower).

I just think you're missing out.
think about it this way
why even get hype for new games anymore
you can just mod games to play however you want, right
Mods modify the existing content of a game. Hence the word mod. It's not new tech (mostly), or a new engine, or anything that has the amount of money a new game would have pumped into it. Believe it or not, mods have limits. Otherwise it wouldn't be called a mod. That's why.

I see where you're coming from though, Verb. It's honestly why for first playthroughs I get the vanilla experience. Both the positives and the flaws, to understand what the developer did and get the full scope of things.

Didn't Germany ban depictions of swastikas? They might just be trying not to get the game banned in Germany
Didn't stop them from doing it in the past. Germany's always been like that and CoD's had Swastika's in the past. World at War doing it last, which I think is arguably one of the better WW2 games in capturing the brutality of the war (and the Soviets)
apparently the uk censored the wolfenstein trailer so they might be trying to cover all their bases and avoid being banned in certain places
Hm fair point. Guess we shall see.

when you use mods, there's a sense of untainted purity that you just lose forever
Let's be honest, Bethesda's base games are already tainted with laziness and lack of innovation, and they actually have an unspoken pitch of their games being better with mods. And now they have the audacity to try and make them paid. One of the worst developers around for that kinda crap. If anything mods remind us of what Bethesda could actually do and how lazy they are. I mean hell their first DLC was a New Vegas mod more or less.

>weebshit
Not sure why you would have expected anything else tbh
Because I liked 6,7,10, Tactics Advance and 15.
Are you kidding me? 7 and 10 are more weeby than anything 9 has in it.
I don't like the look of anything in 9, it looks like a kiddy Disney movie.
Wouldn't that be more American than anything? Anyway, I know what you mean. It was the last homage to the older FF games.

The issue, as pointed out by a FRIEND, is that everything seems to be crossing into different genres of gaming. Games that aren't supposed to be an RPG have RPG elements, games that aren't usually open world are becoming open world and doing it poorly. And now loot is the new craze.
Everything just feels the fucking SAME.
yeah i had the same thought
everything is very samey right now, and it sucks
at least this gives me more time to play some vintage games
Bit late, but yeah I'm glad someone agrees with me. I think it's why I've taken an interest to games like Sea of Thieves which just seems so different from the other stuff I've been seeing. Of course it remains to be seen if it'll actually have replayability. Seems like it'd get old fast.

That campaign feels anime as fuck.
It's made by Japanese people so what do you expect?
I mean Japs made Dark Souls, and even with the entire thing being one huge Berserk refference it doesnt have much of an anime feel to it in the way this does.
Probably because Miyazaki deliberately went with the Western Medieval look with Dark Souls. Besides they're two completely different genres.

That campaign feels anime as fuck.
It's Ace Combat. The only one that didn't was Assault Horizon and that wasn't amazing. It's like a weird mix of that, and sci fi. That's what makes it great.

It's like Battlefield 1 somehow having random black dudes in the German army with white dudes. Didn't happen.
At least there were thousands of black German soldiers (even if they only fought in German East Africa). CODWW2 doesn't have that benefit for their historical inaccuracies.
Yeah maybe. Finest Hour CoD had that all black squad. Oh well, guess all I can do is ree.

BUT, you can argue multiplayer doesn't exactly have to follow the history bit to a tee like that of the single player of those games does. Because in BF1 single player when you're the black dude you're in a colored unit, so that was accurate.
It would have been better had they given players the option for customisation, rather than just setting default races for classes per faction.
Instead of seeing a bit of variety, you end up with the most popular classes filling the battlefield, and you end up with the ve voss kaisers und scheiße legion filling the game.
Yeah I wish they would. It's like you're going for the character distinction while being generic. Just edit your soldiers race and face and stuff, and maybe minor gear changes with each class (like the helmets/jackets maybe) and you'd be golden. I mean it's not a big issue at all. It's just a minor nitpicking thing that I know isn't accurate. But again, it's multiplayer and they never claimed it was going to be historically on point. Single Player is what tried (and failed in terms of actual gameplay) that to an extent.

I don't understand censoring the Swastika from a historical game, and then probably adding in women on factions that weren't the Soviet Union. How are you even gonna try and be PC on this shit? It's HISTORY. Don't hide it, own up to it. If you're going to claim you're being accurate and authentic, then fucking go all the way. How does Wolfenstein have more balls than this? My history nerd is freaking out in me with this kind of stuff. Nazi's deserve to die, but hey at least make the people that championed it around actually have it in game. Censorship is bad kiddies. Look at Japan censoring their shit and kids there don't know the atrocities their people committed. Biggest insult to those who died is being forgotten. Own up to it reeee.

What a boring conference. Loads of shit I don't care about aside from Monster Hunter. Wish there was more to God of War that I saw, but it looked like the same stuff. The only other game I did care about, Spiderman, is bogged down in QTE's.
On that note

this is a really weird franchise to obsess over

So far the only games that have me at all interested in ranking order are
Sea of Thieves Shadow of Mordor 2 Metro Ori 2 State of Decay 2 Wolfenstein Quake Crackdown 3
Sea of Thieves being probably my favorite (I love the artstyle and that water and sun reflection), along with the other 2nd ranked one because you saw actual gameplay and people playing after. I've grown to get far more annoyed now at trailers that mix gameplay (and heavily scripted gameplay), along with some loud overbearing music.
