I looked at the eclipse when I was 8 years old, and my vision is just as bad as its always been. It's no different now.
I'm sure that it's not good for you but we all do things that aren't good for us.

Put your phone on selfie mode and watch it, it'll protect them.

The sun not burning your eyes, and yeah it will. Reason being? Your eyes dilate when it gets darker. The moon blocking out the sun makes things darker and your pupils dilate, so when you're looking up at it, more radiation and harmful rays are getting into your eyes without your defensive mechanisms kicking in.

Asked that question in Astronomy last semester your eyes will still be fucked, it won't help you. They're for the glare the sun gives off on other surfaces mostly, not the sun itself.
