Europe security services are pathetic.
In their defense, that is slightly misleading in American terms. It seems further than it is because he crossed several countries, but the distance between Berlin and Milan easily fits in just the state of Texas or California (it's about half of the distance from North to South California, for example). Not that it's excusable, but they initially had no clue who was responsible and it's not as if there haven't already been manhunts for mass shooters lasting several days in the US either. Still a major fail on their behalf, but gotta put the distance between Berlin and Spain into perspective as well.
It's not about distance, it's about how he crossed into countries without being stopped and checked. It's about how he was yet again known to the authorities as a criminal and radical and was on a watchlist. We're lucky these Italian cops decided to ask him for his paperwork.

Russia has a defense pact with Syria and billions in trade, I oppose their methods of war but their presence there is justifiable. As for EE they have interfered to swing things in their favour but I don't take that as "trying to dominate the world"

What kind of resources do those Eastern European shitholes have that Russia doesn't? None, Russia's size guarantees self sufficiency so why does the bear want them? Buffer states in the case of war with the West, having them go through Eastern Europe before they can make way for Moscow is a massive defense for them if Trump is able to negotiate a deal where the security of Russia is guaranteed via the dismantling of NATO and a new security pact I see no reason why they would have to keep prodding the EE states. It doesn't need them. The Soviet Union didn't need them either just like it didn't need to invade Afghanistan. Russia WANTS to control these countries. If the West and Russia can get over the Cold War mentality then there's no reason why they can't form an alliance the two are pretty much near the same culturally. The current trend for China only looks to be going up eventually they will catch up to the West in many different factors and from what we see now they certainly aren't pacifist hence a future threat.
Russia will never be an ally until they surrender.
