Really want to know what's going on in his head?
His mind is driven not by him self but the thought of letting down the human race and it's possibilities. He feels responsible because he has the power to fix and build very important things. He's tortured by constant thought but yet fulfilled by having a grand purpose. His mind is on the go looking for spots missed where he can improve. Smoking weed or turning off his brain is unfavorable and feels irresponsible and selfish. Most people are stick and carrot with solely money and power. But Elon genuinely wants to build, create, improve, in many forms which I value highly. A lot of people don't understand, many intelligent people have different perspectives and layers they work on. For example when they talk to someone not quite as bright, they dumb themselves down to the point where they can communicate successfully with the other person, without getting them confused. Creating the simplest most accurate answer is most desirable because it's supposed to work on almost all levels of intellectual thought. But it's almost so simple that some people need to think and translate it in their own minds because such a refined answer has so much information packed in. Example: Joe asks what Elons mind is like, Elon says it's like a constant explosion. Joe doesn't wait and decode what that means, and just asks again. Elon made the perfect answer so he sticks with it. It's almost like some sort of "thought algebra" if you think about it. He definitely makes you fill in the blanks and turn the screws with his responses if you truly want to understand what he's saying. Another reason why his responses are simple is because when someone says a statement, in most people it triggers a response on only one or two thoughts, and they use them to converse. For some others when they hear a statement, 1. They scan it to see if it's even logical 2. They fit the statement into a large picture, so just one thing doesn't come to mind to converse about, but a whole giant puzzle. They're are 10+ ways you could go, and describe how your statement fits into the puzzle. He could sit there and give you an extremely detailed rambling that truly seems like it has no end, or he can agree with what you said. Some people just take it as poor social skills but it's usually not. I imagine sometimes saying a statement instead of asking a question when you want a response, or rambling on questions (like Joe does) seems like poor skills to people like Elon. If you want to get information from him or people alike you're going to have to ask a specific question instead of saying a statement. Because unless they find it illogical, they're probably going to just agree with whatever you said. That's why when Joe says something true Elon is basically like "Yep." Anything else? 628

As the step dad of two children with Autism, having been around people affected by Autism, I don't know much but more than the average person. And this is not an insult, but I think Elon is on the spectrum. It explains his rapid unending thoughts for innovation and invention, and his social awkwardness as well. He is a special guy that's for sure. Pure genius on one level, but childlike as well.
