What is your point? Should the U.S. consider them an enemy and turn them into another Iran? That would be utterly devastating to peace in the region and global market stability. We have much more leverage over Saudi Arabia as a military ally and trade partner than as an enemy.
I think Saudi Arabia should've been invaded after 9/11.

With regards to the contemporary history of the Middle East up until around the 80s it was largely ruled by secular monarchs or secular nationalist governments, where was this "peace and prosperity"?
I don't know what history you're reading but Iran, Lebanon, Syria, and even Iraq were doing pretty well. Islam was still present and a lot people were very fundamentalist so I don't see your point. You're taking a hypothetical scenario where Islam doesn't exist and comparing it to relatively secular governments where there were still issues because Islam was still present.
