Barring the obvious fact that exploiting poor people by pitting them against each other like dogs for cheap entertainment is obviously terrible, do you happen to know anything about boxing? what the fuck lmao Is that what you think boxing is? because it's stupid to consent to things that hurt you
it just is
this isn't a moral issue, it's an intelligence issue I guess you're just not a competitive person. pain should always be avoided if there's nothing to gain
in sports, there is nothing to gain Says you, the guy who has never played sports and acts like a basketball murdered his whole family. then they're idiots, simple as that
That's just rude. The worst part is you don't even have a point to make and the world would definitely be worse off without sports. Whatever dude. If you don't like sports that's fine but you run around like you're the authority on every issue when you have such little life experience. You don't take into account how other people feel, you don't even seem to care. So what's the purpose in getting rid of sports? Making life even more miserable?

boxing should be outright banned pffthahaha come on dude getting hurt is a part of life, that doesn't mean you should play a sport where getting hurt is part and parcel Why not? If they consent and enjoy it, what's the problem? pain should always, ALWAYS be avoided Depends on the situation. I know you'd agree, too, so there's no point making statements like this. because it contributes absolutely nothing valuable to society other than meaningless entertainment that can be accessed literally anywhere else
Yeah it does. People that enjoy watching sports might not enjoy something else and this provides that entertainment for them. There was this shitty football movie I saw once but one scene was actually pretty good. It was the dad of the protagonist talking to his son who I think stopped caring about football or something and told him how this incredible touchdown he saw helped him get through 20 years of working in a factory. I'm not explaining it too well, but I think you get the idea. Sports really mean something to a lot of people, and I think it's fucked up you want to take that away from them and that you call people like that dumb or ignorant.

it's the same exact thing, only people don't get hurt and there's not a giant industry for it
which is a good thing Getting hurt is a part of life. Boxing is a sport that requires people getting hurt. no one should be paid millions of dollars to play a sport Why not?

Sure, but video games in themselves don't grant the same physical activity that leads to being more healthy. I'd say the trade off is equivalent, I've never seen anyone become healthier by playing video games. people need entertainment to survive, you realize
I guess if you include that into "being healthy". I specifically meant physically but I hadn't thought of health being roped in with mental health (needing entertainment).
do you think you have to be physically fit to be physically healthy
No, but it certainly helps.
but it's something you don't need
entertainment is something we need, and there are many outlets for it—some people choose video games, which have a propensity to teach people a variety of other skills, like problem solving and even teamwork, perhaps even better than sports can—all without risk of getting physically injured
i'm a writer, so sometimes playing video games can inspire me
so while both are ultimately wastes of time, it would seem that video games are the preferable option
Nothing teaches you team work like sports or war does. Video games are great but so are sports.
risk of injury pretty much nullifies any positive thing that sports could contribute
also >war lmao wtf
You develop te best teamwork fighting a war because your life depends on it. It's the ultimate competition.
no it's just a really weird thing to bring up
because none of us are in war
we're talking about teamwork
we're talking about avenues through which the average person can experience teamwork
well the average person fights wars unless you're specifically talking about us right here right now
Either way what I said is right. Or do you disagree?
i don't disagree but i'm also talking about right here right now
war is just random because the two things we're talking about are sports vs. video games, i'm still confused as to why you even brought war up
It's not random, if you agree with what I said then naturally sports are the next step down from from war.
only if video games are also one step below war
in reality, they're both about twenty thousand steps below war
war > sports > video games
I think we can all agree on that order
We can't.
war > sports = video games
Have you ever played a sport competitively?
why would i do something stupid like that
How can we debate if sports are more productive than games or not when you don't even play sports?
because fortunately i have the ability to observe and recount similar experiences
i don't need to touch fire to know that it's hot
That doesn't really apply. It's not a bad thing to play sports.
putting yourself at high risk of injury for no good reason is stupid, and therefore bad
From your perspective there's no reason, but for a lot of other people there's a ton of good reasons. Playing for your teammates, your town, your city, your country, that's a good thing and it's a good feeling. Of course money is involved too.
the same thing can be said of esports
It's not the same thing, and technically only exists because of real sports.

Where I work at is the exception of the rule. We actually have young people at our shop, and we're actually understaffed. The company is looking for people they can trust.
If they pay a legit wage I'll be right there fam
They do but you have to have a connection to get in. This place doesn't just hire some average joe unless you're applying to be a janitor. That's probably the only minimum wage position that's part time. My position is full time. If they see that you have skills in something within the company, you can demonstrate that to them when given the opportunity.
But again, I am sure you need a connection and a well put together resume. That's how I got in.

This is why I tell people I play the guitar whenever they ask me this question.
No one is gonna laugh at you for playing the guitar.
You must have missed pretty much everything since the late 80s.
I wasn't alive until the early 90s.
Deci be honest
Did you buy a guitar to make us stop laughing at you
No. I bought the electric guitar because its something I've obsessed with since I was a kid. After my ex dumped me, I was depressed for awhile. Then the realization came to me that I needed a new hobby. Since I've had music in my past and I've played musical instruments in the past such as the piano and the viola, the guitar is what I've wanted to learn more than anything, so I went ahead and invested in one.
Been teaching myself for a year now and its pretty damn enjoyable. I need to get back on Rocksmith to improve my skills though, I just haven't had much time for it.
you got it
Yeah I'm not going to get something just to have a backwater internet forum stop laughing at me. That's wasting money.
