Conservative heavy SC now that a bunch of civil rights cases for LGBTQ+ folks are likely going to be hitting the court in the coming years. Yeehaw.
This is probably the saddest part of this whole debacle and all anyone wants to talk about is Trump pardoning himself.
The point here being that this guy and his cronies are destroying the very foundations of American democracy, and if by some miracle the dems are successful in the midterms trump and co will get away with it too. No specific group is going to have the “saddest” outcome, it’s all bad.
And it’s not destroying the foundations of American democracy to bring forward sexual assault allegations as a last second attempt to destroy a man who won’t forward your agenda
Republicans could have crammed Kavanaugh through but they held the hearing, had the investigation, and had a vote
You can flatter Trump but he’s not stronger than two centuries of the most democratic form of government ever created

Or are you such a naive dimwit that Graham’s speech had you in tears, standing up with your hand on your heart pledging allegiance? Why didn’t trump nominate the many other candidates? Would you be happy with any of the other conservatives Trump had to choose from? Trump doesn't need Kavanaugh to defend him because in his mind, he's done nothing wrong
What Democrats want is to hold the seat open until November when they win a majority over Republicans and just block every single nomination Trump throws at them so they can continue to uphold Roe v Wade and leftist policies. If Kavanaugh gets in the way, then his life and career are necessary sacrifices
Trump may be an idiot, but he’s under no illusion that he has committed several crimes. I wouldn't be happy with any conservative judge, but there’s a reason he’s obsessed with nominating Kavanaugh. And then 3 days later he tries to apologise for his emotional behaviour. People who have known abusive people in their own lives can see this behaviour coming from miles away; act abusive, then apologise and victimise yourself to make the actual victim feel sorry for you. He's unfit for the position regardless of the allegations' truth.
You're right, he shouldn't have gotten angry. I mean it's not like the main opposition against him getting the position is a bogus story from 36 years ago saying he's sexually harassed someone. Yeah, I can't possibly see why he would be mad over that.

Even if he didn't get the job but his name was cleared, the damage has already been done, he can't go anywhere in public without people going "Oh he's that rapist" not just him but his family has to deal with the shit as well. Peterson had an interesting take on this (that he's now getting flak for from his fellow conservatives) that if Kavanaugh was truly right for the job, upon confirmation, he should have stepped down knowing how polarising he was. This would've have cleared his reputation in most people's eyes and have worked to lessen the divide between parties right now. But no, he knows the only reason he's there is to push the "Trump can pardon himself" initiative knowing that there will most likely be a democratic senate come December that will push to impeach.
I like Peterson but that is complete nonsense. If he's completely right for the job why shouldn't he keep his position? All him stepping down would do is appease the people who have worked nonstop for the last month to drag his name through the mud. Anyone Trump nominates is going to go through just as much of a shit show and the seat would be left vacant until who the fuck knows. That's not fair to the people qualified who might be nominated, it's not fair to the Senate (both parties) having to repeat the whole process, and it's not fair to the American people having to watch it.
As for the second half, I know that the opposition party tends to win in the mid-terms but this whole fiasco has spurred multiple news articles on a GOP surge in voter-turnout.
The only reason he’s the nominee is because he’s the only one who’s gonna make sure that even if trump gets impeached he won’t have to go to prison. Or do you think trump isn’t guilty of several crimes too? Are you going to vote republican this midterm to make sure he can install his dictatorship?
