I don't know about oppressed, but there is discrimination against those who are not religious.
I don't like to call myself an atheist as if I'm part of a little group, or as if that's a defining part of me. Whatever. But there are people who are shunned and are not allowed to hold office because they aren't religious in America, and that's wrong.
And then of course we have the less developed places in the world where people are killed for not being part of a certain religion.

His point is you can be fired for some other reason and the real reason is because you're atheist. You won't be able to prove that he fired you for being atheist, or at least, it won't be easy and most people don't have the time and money to do all that.
