...but it wasn't his apartment.

Essentially, if a squatter lives in a property long enough, and the owner does nothing about it, he could end up owning that property. The state specifies exactly what a squatter must do to take eventual legal ownership of a property. Generally, to gain possession, a squatter must make property tax payments over a continuous 5-year time period.

Superior? Not at all. It's the right view for America because more often than not a home invader will be armed
Yes, perhaps it is the right view for America, But I don't live in America. I'm not talking about America.
But I am. California's castle doctrine specifically, because people shoot intruders and go to jail simply for protecting their home.

But say you tell them to put their hands up and they don't comply. They instead rush you and try to take your gun. Do you agree with emptying the mag on them?
Yes.
Quote
You should obviously try to get him to surrender and call the police if you can, but if he doesn't comply you should be able to shoot him with no legal repercussions.
This is the exact thing I've been trying to argue this entire thread. Lethal force should be a last resort, only to be applied when imminent harm to you and/or others is present. Should you be able to shoot someone for the sole reason of them entering your home without your permission? No, I don't believe so. However, if it is clear that they mean to cause physical harm and violently come on to you? You should have every right to defend yourself, even with lethal force.

But killing someone over attempted robbery? Shooting a man who's running away once you confront him? Especially when the situation could've been resolved otherwise? Hell no, I can't agree with that.

Either way, this seems to be a very cultural thing, as I feel very safe in my home. Incidents like what you described above rarely ever happen and would make national news. If a person would find his way into my house, I would never expect him to have done so for the purpose of raping or killing. I would a million times sooner assume an accident or an attempted robbery, something I wouldn't ever consider killing anyone over.

You seem to claim that your experiences give you a superior or more correct insight to mine, which is perhaps true for LA and the areas where you have lived. However, it doesn't mean this is some kind of global truth. So no, I wouldn't shoot an intruder unless I absolutely had to in order to defend myself or others from imminent harm.
No no, if the guy's running away whatever. But if he's armed, you should be allowed to shoot without telling him to put his weapon down. Because you are in imminent danger and the intruder does have the intent to use his gun. You just don't have that type of crime I guess, but home invasions in America are very ugly. I could link all sorts of horrible crimes committed in people's homes, but I'd rather not.

Superior? Not at all. It's the right view for America because more often than not a home invader will be armed, so the Castle doctrine in California needs to be modified to allow you to shoot an intruder with more force than he has if necessary. If somebody has a knife in my home I'm shooting with no warning, and especially if he has a gun. Dead men make terrible witnesses. If he's unarmed I'll tell him to lie on his belly, but if he makes a move I'm dropping him.

Home invasions are no joke. If you don't neutralize the threat or have the police arrive on time it gets real ugly real fast.

I take it for concealed carry there instead of using a real gun you are only allowed to carry that Nerf revolver?
The gun laws are pretty wacky. I don't really know or care about carrying, because it isn't too necessary. I think you need to demonstrate a valid reason of why you feel the need to carry.

Having a gun in the house for self defense is a different story. The Castle doctrine in California is bogus compared to other states. That's what really bothers me, that if you defend yourself and your home you could go to jail. It's bullshit.

Why rejected?
I've tried it again in my sisters name and I'll just give her the cash every month to pay for it. She's older than me and earns way more so it shouldn't get rejected.

I don't know what it's like in Belgium, but if you would've lived in LA like I had or anywhere in America you know somebody breaking into your house is going to rob and/or hurt you.
In America, maybe.
Quote
There have been break ins where people go into a house solely to rape or kill.
Which warrants the use of lethal force as self defense, like I said. Shooting or killing someone merely for breaking in, however? That's not something I can agree with. Hold them at gunpoint, tell them to back off or lay down as you call the police. If they chose to make a move and display aggression, you should be free to defend yourself and others. But shooting and killing a man for entering your home without your permission? That is most definitely excessive use of force. Lethal force is and always should be a last resort to protect yourself and other persons. The mere fact that a scenario takes place in your home does not change that.
In America DEFINITELY. I'm sure in Belgium too. Why else is somebody going to break into your home while you're there if they aren't going to hurt you?

Seriously, provide a reason for why you shouldn't assume the worst when somebody breaks into your home. You can't always tell someone to back off or put their hands up. What if they have a gun? You think they won't shoot you?

Things happen in seconds. Where you could have shot the intruder if you waste time telling him to lay on his belly with his hands over his head, he has time to shoot you. There may be several people in the house whose whereabouts are unknown to you.

But say you tell them to put their hands up and they don't comply. They instead rush you and try to take your gun. Do you agree with emptying the mag on them? Because they're going to put up a fight. Nobody wants to get arrested.

It's your home. You should have every right to kill a man who just kicked in your door at 3 in the morning and is wearing a ski mask, armed or not. You should obviously try to get him to surrender and call the police if you can, but if he doesn't comply you should be able to shoot him with no legal repercussions.

If there's somebody in your home he's there to rob you or for the purpose of raping or hurting someone.
Tell that to the hundreds of people who were shot by accident for finding themselves on someone else's property. The many examples of people shooting their own family members because they're thought of as intruders come to mind.
Quote
If someone breaks into my home I'm dropping them. Wouldn't you?
Without knowing for sure they're there to cause me harm? No, I wouldn't.
The people who have gone to jail for defending themselves in their home comes to my mind. Accidents will always happen, people are going to be stupid. How exactly do you find yourself through a broken window or door into somebody's house? You've made a clear and conscious decision to break into somebody's house. I don't advocate killing somebody on your lawn, however.

Why else have they entered your home if they're NOT going to cause you harm? Why not enter to rob the place while you're gone? Home invasions are ALWAYS violent. I don't know what it's like in Belgium, but if you would've lived in LA like I had or anywhere in America you know somebody breaking into your house is going to rob and/or hurt you. There have been break ins where people go into a house solely to rape or kill. Trust me, you wouldn't feel so at ease and willing to ask what somebody wants when they just kicked in your door at 3 in the morning.

I say anybody that breaks into your home or in your car should be shot with no charges pressed against you.
Strongly disagreed. This should only apply to cases where apparent danger exists to you and/or other persons.
If there's somebody in your home he's there to rob you or for the purpose of raping or hurting someone. That's what goes down during a home invasion. If someone breaks into my home I'm dropping them. Wouldn't you?

And if somebody robs your car, that's your property. In some states your car is an extension of your home. You don't know what they're going to use the car for and somebody may well be in danger.

http://www.guns.com/2013/06/25/ca-case-of-resident-shooting-intruder-being-investigated-as-a-homicide-video/

So a man can enter your home, beat your son, and you can't shoot him? What is this fucking bullshit? I've always been sick of this shit. I was always afraid if somebody were to break in and I was to shoot or stab him I'd go to jail for defending my home and life. The way the laws are somebody could rape your mom IN YOUR HOUSE and you wouldn't be allowed the shoot the son of a bitch. It's beyond ridiculous. Frankly, it's almost pro criminal. Criminals make the choice to cause harm and to steal, they're not victims and they're certainly not going to be unarmed.

I say anybody that breaks into your home or in your car should be shot with no charges pressed against you. This seriously needs to be pushed for in California. I'm not with open carry or all that other stuff like stand your ground, but in the home there is nowhere to retreat, and you shouldn't have to retreat in the first place. It's your god damn sanctuary and anybody fucking with you needs to be put down with extreme prejudice.

I'm really split on guns to be honest.

You hear and read stuff where people kill their own family members and themselves, school shootings and all that. Then you see stories of people protecting others and themselves from horrific crimes that would have taken place had they not been armed. Like a guy that grabbed his AK and shot at the grass on his lawn because there were 30 MS13 gang members on his lawn threatening to rape his wife and daughters and kill him.

I don't know. I really don't know what side to pick, so to speak. Both have compelling arguments.
The gun debate is less about guns and more about the extent to which people can take measures to protect themselves and their families.  It's alright to be "pro-gun" and not be a "muh freedoms" kind of guy or an Alex Jones listener.
Mm. Being pro gun has become such a tainted thing in America.

Or, we can direct more funds to border security and adopt harsher personalities for those who break federal law
That's ridiculous on the face of it.
1. Move funds
2. Build camera and tracking systems at certain intervals
3. Hire people to watch said camera and systems
4. Dispatch team when something is picked up

It's pants on the head easy

Why not just build a forty foot tall concrete wall while you're at it? Some land mines? I'm sure they'll work just as well.

Simply saying "We need to up border security!" is not going to fix the damn problem. The current process to actually immigrate here is broken.
I'm not opposed to a wall being constructed. We have them in some places but they're just fences that people can climb

How is it broken? You apply for greencard, you wait 5 years so government can monitor you, then you apply for citizenship. And the costs come absolutely nowhere near the amount these people pay to get smuggled across
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

I'd go into detail on why this is super ultra mega bullshit but I don't want to discuss this on the Internet. No. Just fucking no. Completely wrong. The immigration system is beyond terrible and it's far harder to get in legally than illegally. With an easy system people wouldn't be inclined to break any laws or enter illegally. You can up border security AND make immigration easier and cheaper so EVERYBODY benefits.
