Kind of a dick move, but ultimately competition means the more efficient path will be taken.
How exactly is this competition? They're bringing in less experienced and in some cases less skilled workers just to pay them less and cut costs. It's bad enough this has happened to manufacturing jobs but IT jobs now too? How does nobody care about this? It's been going on for a while.

I wasn't up to par this time around. I made some mistakes and was rightfully disciplined or notified of said mistakes.
No excuses. I messed up plain and simple. All I can do is work on things, try to learn from my mistakes and keep moving forward.

This is the right attitude. The fact that you were already chosen to be part of the staff shows that you have certain highly valued qualities and characteristics. Becoming a good mod isn't something that you can learn overnight. I ended up as a master mod relatively quickly, but part of that has to do with the fact that I have continously been a mod or admin on various groups, boards, forums and game servers for about 10 years straight.
Just like Tblocks, you were chosen to become a monitor because you'd make a good addition to the staff. That is saying something good about the two of you. However, the term "staff" is broad and subject to change. Not everyone on the staff is expected to be a mod. Sure, we have our own text color and can hand out bans, but that doesn't mean that we're any more important than the people working on the programming and coding, on the writing, on the design or on the content creation.
As Cheat said before, even though the monitor role got scrapped, there will be new roles to fill when private groups become a thing and Sep7 expands further. While mods are just the enforcers of rules, we have just as much need of those who can create content, manage groups / communities, host events, work on the site's design and expansion, write things up and spread the word, all based on people's own strengths.
So just because it was decided that a role as mod wasn't the right choice for you now, doesn't mean that anyone is getting permanently kicked out off the staff. There will be other positions to fill soon enough, and there is absolutely no reason to think that you would not be another candidate if it would be decided that we needed more mods in the (near) future.
So yeah, just like you said. Just gotta keep trying and improving yourself. In the end, we all want this place to succeed. And just because I have some orange text doesn't make me any more important or a more valuable part of this community than you or anyone else. Keep the community's and staff's suggestions in mind and go from there. Gotta keep the heads held high and just enjoy this place while working on making it the best it can be, and things will turn out just fine.
