The move is undeniably overcentralizing (which is why some stuff is banned), but after having a Stealth Rock-less meta in Gen 5, people found out that it's a necessary evil. Without Stealth Rocks, Multiscale Dragonite was guaranteed a safe Dragon Dance, Kyurem-B would become Uber, Charizard and Articuno still weren't viable, and Volcarona was debated to be broken as well. You would now need a Pokemon to check each threat if Stealth Rocks were gone and that limits team-building. It checks a lot of Pokemon. Now, imagine Talonflame coming in for free... If they treated entry hazards like screens/weather and put a turn limit, then it would be fine.
I actually like that idea a lot.
