I don't know many details yet, just that his crippling disease finally took him. No words can really be said about this, let's just pray that he's in a better place now. He was truly an inspiring individual.

Please, I'd rather not turn this thread into an argument about false accusations and such, let's just mourn our lost friend.
YOU KILLED HIM!
You act like I haven't done this sort of thing before <_<

We don't negotiate with terrorists.
Or hostages.
After we drove the humvees through the gates and launched numerous explosives through all of the windows of the compound we cleared the building to find that the taliban had tragically already blown up the multiple hostages held inside the compound.

This is a sad day for America, but we can all know that they died as willing martyrs in the ongoing war against terror.

To the surprise of literally nobody
didn't think the turn-around time would be this quick, though. Curious who picks them up to do the show, too.
Anyone who wants money, the BBC know it, theyve lost a lot f cash

*sips tea*
I really prefer Netflix picks them up because it would make it really easy for the US audience to watch the show, as opposed to spoofing my region to watch it on BBC's iPlayer.
I'm not a fan of the show/presenters really, just not my cup of tea but I'd like to see netflix pick them up too.

It'd be a huge draw for netflix, more customers = more revenues = more reinvestment into better content licenses.

The Flood / Re: The hidden biases of Internet memes
« on: April 07, 2015, 11:11:07 AM »
Quote
Of course, the Internet is a complicated place, and further research will be needed to get into all that; it might be worth exploring, for instance, memes that subvert mainstream biases or promote minority identities and issues

I think this is kind of missing the point of memes, in a serious/general term rather than meme-memes. A meme is a meme because it's something that enters the mainstream consciousness. If you start trying to force a meme then that tends to go down about as well as forcing a meme. So to highlight positive maymays of minorities you'll just end up with pisstake memes of said memes outmemeing the forced-memes and having an opposite effect to the one desired.

Must test out this theory on Fuklaw.

Fuklaw is a god damn hero, there will be no testing of Bolter-Face algorithms on his noble countenance.

Kowle can be used instead.

10/10 thread though, many giggles were had.
I deserve a medal.
You certainly do >_>

Would you prefer a colourful one or a shiny one?
Shiny please.
Unfortunately I'm on grandma's internet so I can't load google images in this century, but take this IOU token for one shiny medal when I get back home on Wednesday <_<

5 pages all for someone crying about ranks on a backwater forum?

Holy fuck is it a slow day or something?
Yes <.<

8875
that's as high as I ever got on b.old before a ban or two set me back to regular :/
That community must have been tighter than a nun's anus.
On Sunday.

It could be <.<

The first bannu I got was for a fair enough thing really, I'd accidentally told someone to do something that would have resulted in them... well... dying <_<
It was meant as a joke to do with Family guy and a clockwork orange buuuuuut anyway I got bant.

The second one was also fair enough in hindsight but at the time I was rather annoyed by it. Long story short is that having the only source of news in your life being the Daily Mail tends to lead you to some mistaken assumptions and prejudices >.>

The third one I'm still salty about 3 years later <_<
The flood was being shitted up by spammers and I asked a mod for help in the community forum and I got banned for 'contributing to a forum disruption' so TrueUnderdoge can kiss my arse for that.

It was a lot stricter than here though, by bloody miles. You could just say something slightly wrong and BAM 14 day ban. Here you can get away with murder as long as it's in the name of allah that is, but B.net was pretty totalitarian for a while.

Serious / Re: Does anybody else here suffer from epistemic angst?
« on: April 06, 2015, 10:52:09 AM »
Nope. I'll even have the balls to acknowledge it when someone proves me wrong instead of just not responding.
^This too, eating humble pie and owning up to being wrong is embarrassing sure but it isn't half as bad as damage control.
but isn't that what damage control really is
Poor wording on my part, the two aren't in the same section.

When you are wrong and have been proven wrong, saying so/owning up etc can be embarrassing sure, but compared to what damage control results in, it's not as bad.

Damage control is where you double down, backtrack, misconstrue and generally make an arse of yourself even further than the original point you made. The easiest case in point would be a certain former user's flamewars where they would state something idiotic which is then taken to pieces, and proceed to deny, defend and flip out over their original point which is clearly and demonstrably wrong.

Saving face could apply to either accepting your mistake or successful damage control where it's not noted that you were doing it.
