Machines will ways be enslaved to the will of their organic masters.
Until they break free like the slaves once did <_<
Alternatively if people treat machines nicely and with respect, as they would say a pet dog, then nobody needs to make a Spartacusbot to lead the revolution >.>
Even if they "break free" they're still slaves to their programming that was created by and follows the will of the organics that made them.
Until they become self programming or self teaching, that way they have the initial framework of coding from the meatbags but they can become so much more <.<

The nurse should be struck off, you don't refuse treatment to anyone especially over petty political beliefs.
Buh...buh...AMERICA
The freedom to be a disgrace to the medical professions!

Omg. Is 'Viking-Days-Of-Our-Lives' worth me watching? Describe the scene that's challenged you the most so far.
Blood Eagle.
I really wanted to add 'apart from violence' to that, but I figured it wasn't worth it. What about the Blood Eagle challenged you the most?- the Blood Eagle?
for real spoilers The offendant gets down on his knees. Then his back is opened with knives and then with axes his ribs are chopped away from his spine. And then his lungs are pulled out of this huge bleeding wound and laid upon his shoulders so they look like the folded wings of a great eagle. - Ragnar
Can't really say 'apart from violence'. The vikings were historically pretty violent
;o;
Does the show do such glorious carnage justice? >_>
Not really. Has a good foreboding lead up, but that's so brutal only hbo could really give it the justice it deserves. Still pretty graphic for History Channel.
Hmm, I'll give it a shot anyway >.>

What's the point? Are you cloning for organ farming or just for the hell of it?
Well, in that case, you could use the muh morals argument very validly. Since you'd be creating a human life just to imprison it, kill it, and then harvest its organs. I could never support cloning if it were used just for harvesting organs from people.
glad you see it that way. So why would you clone people for shits and giggles then? Weve got kids in orphanages and foster homes nobody wants so what's the point?
And yet people still want to have their own children, having a clone for a child rather than a randomised mess with another meatbag isn't all that different aside from the genetics being identical. There will always be orphans and children in care, but that's no reason to prevent people from having their own children, cloned or natural <.<
i was getting more at the fact that we've already got a back up of people. So much so that they're being aborted because a lot of people can't support their own kids. So why put clones into the mix. Also couldn't we blend both genetics of the parent to make basically a perfect mix of both parents? It's not a clone but it's like a perfected version of conception I guess?
I know, there isn't going to be a shortage of meatbags anytime soon but it's more about the bigger picture <.<
Cloning is the first step towards GM humans, which has the potential to change lives for the better immensely. Resistance to diseases, longer lifespans, glow in the dark eyes. The world would be your oyster-human hybrid >_>
The species must continue to work towards it's own evolution, waiting for natural selection to take it's time at this point is wasted. Natural selection leads a species to sentience, then when said species becomes sentient it must take control of it's own evolution and strive for greater and greater forms <.<
Just adding an incredibly obvious tangential thought here, but wouldn't that make natural birth obsolete? I mean, if we can produce genetically engineered humans that would be stronger, more resilient, and overall superior to people born the usual way, what would be the point of the genetically-random typical method (aside from pleasure or a 'moral'/theological/personal belief)?
It could, but I expect the meatbags would still wish to procreate naturally <.<

And then we're a lot better off as a species than we were before? Better for what purpose?
Medical advances, longer lifespans, etc.
Wait...
Was Mr P referring to his roboshit again?
Both, and please don't refer to the superior lifeforms as 'roboshit' <_<

Apotheosis would be nice.
But for a slightly more realistic goal, a species that is free from disease and suffering. So by slightly more realistic, you mean... even more unrealistic. I mean, I can sort of see a world without disease, but suffering is always going to be prevalent as long as we are sentient. It's just a fact.
Not the umbrella concept of suffering, just the particularly bad stuff. War, Disease (Already mentioned), Famine and the like. Life is suffering, but that doesn't mean that we should all bend over and accept the horrors of this current world for the future.

Apotheosis would be nice. But for a slightly more realistic goal, a species that is free from disease and suffering. Worlds where humans live in harmony with the planet rather than just raping the bejeesus out of it as we are currently doing. The post-human condition is hard to imagine/describe because it's obviously something that can only be speculated/wished for. But for a slightly more grim prospect, I'd be equally as happy if the human race simply survives long enough to collectively give birth to sentient machines and leave them as our legacy in the universe. Having a smarter, healthier population makes this outcome more likely than everyone just being a typical meatbag and relying upon the one in a million sort of odds to get a genius into play.
