Fallout 3 was good, Skyrim still sets a benchmark for modern games, and Fallout 4 looks to be packed with an obscene amount of content. I'm getting pretty sick of these mopey threads talking about how shitty Fallout 3 was supposed to be, how boring Skyrim is (hint: if you're bored in Skyrim, you're a boring fucking person and there's no fixing that), and how supposedly bad Fallout 4 will be.
tbh Skyrim can get boring if you play it for long ass stretches of time, but I would never say it's a boring game.
It's a meme, Sean.

Are you talking to me or Mr Psy

The irony is that most of these people now claiming Skyrim is shallow can look fondly at their 200+ hours of adventuring in a still-true technical benchmark with genre-defining mechanics. It's just silly. Skyrim is, without debate, a ridiculously detailed, expansive, content-filled and organic game. There's a reason that the worst parts of the game are the scripted story pieces, and that's because the game absolutely succeeds at being open-world and player-driven. I'm not even sure what the "depth of a puddle" is referring to. Surely it's not talking about the lore available in the game, or the hundreds of completely optional locations, hundreds of quests followed by procedurally generated quests, or the thorough crafting system? Of course, the game isn't a character-driven vidya novella a la Witcher, but the series never claims to be such. It's a giant fucking world with tons of stuff to do and tons of lore to uncover, and it kicks ass at it.

Yeh, that^ is pasta but it's actually got a good point. I had a lot of fun in Skyrim, I don't even really like fantasy but that ate a few hundred hours of my time. Then a hundred or so more with mods added to it. It's a good game, but after a lot of time in it you start to see it's a bit shallow. The real watershed came after playing TW3, it was 'like skyrim, with depth' <_<

I wouldn't be in the slightest bit concerned, unless they ask questions over the uh... unexpected jihad stuff on youtube. Or the shedloads of anime I've watched.
Maybe the gore.
and there was recently anarchy.
Hm, okay I'd be a little concerned but not really that distressed.

Konami might be dicks and all that, but uh $80 million production costs?
On a game that made just over half of the sales it needed to break even... let alone make a profit. Not including advertising costs.
Hmm, yeah I can kind of see why Konami have turned their noses up at AAA titles.
$80 million including the development of FOX Engine, the game, and marketing. The whole point of the FOX Engine was to be used in multiple games anyway, which has already be utilized in PES games. So that part of the budget, whatever it was, has already been covered since PES continues to garner a profit in every release (two titles, so far).
The cost to develop Unreal Engine 3 was close to $40 million. Let's say that FOX was much cheaper at $20 million. This would mean that MGSV itself cost $60 million to develop. Between sales of Ground Zeroes (1 million units) and Phantom Pain (3 million units), MGSV has sold 4 million units (or 3.5 million in terms of revenue, since GZ launched at $30).
According to the LA Times, large publishers generally receive $27 for every $60 game. According to IGN, large publishers generally receive $16 for every $60 game. This would mean that MGSV (as a whole) has grossed somewhere between $56 million and $94.5 million in revenue. In either amount, the budget allocated for the game itself is either nearly covered or profited up to $34.5 million.
Ah well that's actually not too bad then.

About the whole slayers vs giant thing, I haven't seen it yet but off the top of my head for Warhammer lore the uh slayers refer to the fanatic/psychotic dwarfs who specialise in murdering seven shades of shit out of giants.
So that the giant managed to kill 16 of them before they brought it down sounds about right. It's a hard counter definitely, but I imagine a giant can maul through a regiment of imperial riflemen like a yank with a cheeseburger.

It's not for everyone, but it's a solid 10/10 title as opposed to an IGN 10/10
The game has plenty of depth, the character interactions on the whole are what stood out to me as the best. The world building and the like, I'm not paid to shill for them so I'll keep it brief but it's a great game all round.

Even so, that's $40M down the drain. I wager a lot of that is the production of the Fox Engine, though, which is always pricey.
And really, it's their fault for wasting their own money if they're not even going to utilise their investment in the future (I.E. mobile games).
Yeah it's not really a sound move on Konami's part giving a game a budget that it wouldn't ever make back in sales. I'm sure it's a good game and people are enjoying it, but it's a sensible business move for Konami to drop a franchise that is bleeding them out like that.

Konami might be dicks and all that, but uh $80 million production costs? $80M includes advertisements.
$80M isn't all that much for a game. It's a lot, but it isn't anything ground-breaking.
Not to mention Konami's revenue has gone up 167%.
Even so, that's $40M down the drain. Give a generous estimate of $30M loss on the game, I'm just saying but if I was running a company that lost $30M on a game I doubt I'd be looking at the franchise too fondly.

Alrighty well I'm inclined to make it a premium server (i.e DLC mixed in with vanilla) so quote this post and ROOO if you don't have premium so I can either revise my plans or laugh.

Why would you rent a server you fgt
Because 90% of the server choices at the moment are shit, it's 24/7 XYZ or just 300 conquest maps consecutively.

I feel like locking the poll soon.
I'll let it stay up until after dinner.
Psy you better change your name to Psyduck if it wins.
EDIT: I can't lock the damn poll? That's dumb.
Can someone lock the thread at around 7 pm CST? Will that work?
Well I mean, I'd be looking to change it in like two years time so you have a bit longer >_> Psyduck is the one I'd look at though.

Thread to gauge interest in a possible Sep7 Xbone server
I'm thinking of renting one out soon (early october) and I'm wondering if any of you folks would also wish to use it/play it etc.
I'd probably go with east coast to cover the weebs and I reasonable well, so it should be fine for anyone on here unless you live in asia/straya.
Maps/Rotation/Tickets/Stuff suggestions appreciated

I have uh... a lot... of 40k stuff <_< Off the top of my head it goes roughly like this IG infantry Two command squads, Commissars and support troops One platoon command 8 squads of guardsmen (7 troopers, one sarge, one vox and one special weapons per squad) Two heavy support teams (3 teams of two troopers with a heavy weapon each per team) Sniper support squad Veteran Squad Kasrkin/Stormtrooper detachment IG tanks Three russ tanks (Vanilla, Executioner and Punisher variants but I can switch it up to Demolisher and Annihilator if i feel like it) Chimera Sentinel A BANEBLADE - don't click unless you want autism/turn your speakers downWhich sadly is the unfinished crown jewel of my collection. If I ever get inclined to get back into the hobby, which I should soonish, I'll give it a paintjob that isn't 12 year old tier handspazzing. Bunch of grey knights shit, lots of unique characters and a dreadknight but not an army's worth of them. Some inquisition stuff from back when daemonhunters was a codex. Space Marines, about a company's worth of marines maybe a half-company. Some really nicely done space wolves that a guy just gave to me out of the blue and then a few assorted other miniatures. Also like 3000000000000 million uruk-hai and gondor soldiers from when I played the LOTR version. And Ogre Kingdoms from the fantasy one. I dread to think the amount of jewgold Games Workshop has gotten from me over the years.
