It is a little tiresome but it did occur to me that I'd rather just have the odd tiny snippet of information in the run up so that you get to dive in almost completely fresh rather than certain games where you already know the in and out of it by day one.

Thank you neko, saved me the trouble of a reply there <_<

and turned Halsey from a conflicted "this is for the greater good" to generic mad scientist.

The only change is that we don't see SPARTAN-II from her perspective anymore, and thus aren't meant to sympathize with her or overlook the fact that she's responsible for the kidnapping, indoctrination, and deaths of at least 75 children. Sure, she sees herself as doing it for the greater good, but everyone else sees her as a mad scientist.
Now I'm just saying, but 75 children as the price to pay to save the universe is laughably nothing.

Maybe it's the 40k in me where 75 million deaths is chump change, but that's not really that horrific going by the body counts courtesy of the covenant.

Longbowmen > Towers
Pit them both against each other, you're going to have a really bored bowman for a very long time.
With the right upgrades and enough of them, it doesn't take too long.
Hmm, what is the answer to those guys. Sheer numbers in cavalry?
I think so but I can't quite remember, fairly certain that it was skirmishers because they take one damage from all arrows regardless iirc

Or something shite like that

by falling asleep due to boredom and not giving a shit

i'd probably be a lot better at these types of games if they were more engaging (or engaging at all)
Well, it not the games fault that you're

1. Boring
2. A horrible strategist

Fallout 3 was good, Skyrim still sets a benchmark for modern games, and Fallout 4 looks to be packed with an obscene amount of content. I'm getting pretty sick of these mopey threads talking about how shitty Fallout 3 was supposed to be, how boring Skyrim is (hint: if you're bored in Skyrim, you're a boring fucking person and there's no fixing that), and how supposedly bad Fallout 4 will be.
Hey I don't think, with the addition to mods, that any of those games could get boring for a very long time.

Though Psy, I feel like you may have commented in the wrong thread?
The irony is that most of these people now claiming Skyrim is shallow can look fondly at their 200+ hours of adventuring in a still-true technical benchmark with genre-defining mechanics. It's just silly. Skyrim is, without debate, a ridiculously detailed, expansive, content-filled and organic game. There's a reason that the worst parts of the game are the scripted story pieces, and that's because the game absolutely succeeds at being open-world and player-driven. I'm not even sure what the "depth of a puddle" is referring to. Surely it's not talking about the lore available in the game, or the hundreds of completely optional locations, hundreds of quests followed by procedurally generated quests, or the thorough crafting system? Of course, the game isn't a character-driven vidya novella a la Witcher, but the series never claims to be such. It's a giant fucking world with tons of stuff to do and tons of lore to uncover, and it kicks ass at it.

They aren't for everyone, I enjoy the challenge of stretching my brain somewhat to be planning a bigger picture manoeuvre whilst focussing on keeping everything in the present flowing smoothly. There aren't really any substitutes for it, the complex ones that is. The ones based on RNG or rock paper scissors unit interactions (Infantry beats aircraft who beat vehicles who beat infantry stuff) are pretty meh for that.

Someone should post their stating strategy for Age of Empires. I used to be so good at that game but the last time I played I had no idea what I was doing anymore. I wasn't managing my resources well at all.
For the early two I didn't play them seriously but for the third I do that one on higher difficulties as a matter of course.

Economy is everything imo, if you have a strong economic starting base then the rest of the game comes easily. If you just spend your money on soldiers to harass then you've lost out on a faster resource trickle.

« on: September 20, 2015, 05:16:52 PM »
For those of us who play RTS games, which are fairly broad in scope so not every tactic works for every game - what is your preferred style?

If it's a general one, you don't need to post the game but for certain ones where a strategy only really works for a certain game it's helpful to elaborate.

So for total war games, I found that the style that suits my redcoats the best is to make a hill that is absolutely plastered in riflemen covering every approach. A skirmish screen to take out anything with range and some culverins on the top to counter enemy artillery <.<

Then just sit and wait for the enemy to come to you, rip them to shreds and win e.e

For dawn of war though, I'd turtle quite heavily until the endgame when I just go for their HQ in one ridiculously overwhelming strike. Spehss Mehren orbital insertion spam with the right timing lets you rain dreadnoughts, marines and terminators into their base in the space of about 1 second.

It's kind of hard to counter that too, because of the sheer amount of killing that gets done in the first few seconds of deployment.

I'm also a big fan of artillery creeping in general, just slowly walking a barrage across a map until the enemy is utterly destroyed e.e

I'm not in anyway a fan of rushing though, it ruins the fun imo.

How do you play you naggers?
Or don't you play RTS games because you hate america.

So I try a single quartz roll...

Spoiler

She's got a sexy final ascension.
I've been saving up gold exp cards, no matter the class I'm pumping them all into her right now.

I'm waiting for the 22nd so I can get snake gems from the event to ascend Gilgamesh. I practically have all of the ascension items needed to bring him to level 100 after that.
You're right, I need to get her ascended asap >.>

Are those gems some of the items unobtainable right now? Or is it just the same old "shit doesn't drop enough"?

You have two chances to get them per week from 40ap dailies. They're supposed to be common, but I end up getting the demon hearts instead and those are supposed to be super hard to get.
Some twisted luck there.
Still, you can get them now. Will the event drop enough or will you still need to grind a bit before you can ascend Gil?

If it drops 5 I should have barely enough.
Call it a hunch, but I would expect to get three.

It's either that or they just made the demon hearts give out three because fuck psy

If it only gave out 3 I'd cry.
I was rather sad when the demon hearts only gave three
I have five

out of fourteen

and the shop doesn't have them

Dammit now I'm tempted to do another ;-;

Except, I've already blown three singles on this event and uh I probably shouldn't waste 16 gems on getting black keys.

I'll save up for okeanus because broskander awaits.

You deserve every one of those black keys.
No matter how I look at it, it's not my fault I do single rolls.

As far as I know he's still around, just lurking very infrequently.

In general too, there is nobody that I know of that's shuffled off this mortal coil thankfully. That being said, it's not possible to know if a user who one day just vanished didn't go to join the choir invisible but that's the way of things online.
