The Flood / Re: How do WE stop Racism in the united states?« on: June 01, 2016, 04:45:34 AM »
You can't really fix racism as a concept, because there will always be prejudice in people.
The best thing you can do is challenge it one by one, and I don't mean getting assblasted over ironic shitposting on twitter and the like. Actual racism/prejudice rather than parody. One of the better conceptions is contact theory, but that is predicated upon the experience actually being positive. It's a bit hard to improve a person's perceptions of another group, if said group treats them in a way that conforms to their prejudices... well you aren't gonna be shifting that thought any time soon. 1718

Especially if you are getting tremors from them. Try to cut down on them, you don't have to go cold turkey with it just try to avoid stuff that's a bit like meth mixed with glucose. 1730

The Flood / Moral Dilemma« on: May 29, 2016, 11:20:17 AM »
I'm grinding through revision for the year and I found this story again in one of the textbooks, it seemed interesting enough to get the flood's thoughts on it.
Quote Heinz’s wife was dying from a particular type of cancer. Doctors said a new drug might save her. The drug had been discovered by a local chemist and the Heinz tried desperately to buy some, but the chemist was charging ten times the money it cost to make the drug and this was much more than the Heinz could afford. The questions for consideration are: 1. Should Heinz have stolen the drug? 2. Would it change anything if Heinz did not love his wife? 3. What if the person dying was a stranger, would it make any difference? 4. Should the police arrest the chemist for murder if the woman died? This was demonstrated fairly recently by some fellow jacking the price of an HIV drug through the roof after buying the rights to it cheaply, but I can't remember his name. 1738

I love how a discussion about AI boiled down to 'muh dik' arguments.
Serious is getting more seriouser needs a bit of a facelift but it still applies, I haven't got time to comb the thread for every single infraction but this last page is pretty clear as to who is throwing insults. So verb if there are posts by challenger ITT that you feel violate the same rule, please either report them or PM them to me and I'll get to them in due course but for now it's a slap out of serious for a day or so depending on previous. I'll unlock and clean up this abomination of a thread later but essays to write, revision to do etc etc etc 1739
