If you are looking to spread out, this series is one of my personal favorites.
The first characters introduced are two unnamed women in mortal peril, one who is pregnant and one who has just given birth. The pregnant one is trying desperately to reach shelter during a snowstorm. She is an outcast of her people, the Avar because she has decided to carry her child, conceived during a festival and considered an abomination, to term. A group of demonic creatures, skraelings, watch as her unborn child brutally eats his way out of her womb, killing her. The monsters are delighted and decide to adopt the hateful child.
Sold to the gentleman with the eye twitch and the shakes!

I should maybe point out that I already have some of the halo books (But not the forerunner stuff... the first book was bleugh so I didn't follow that series)
Mass Effect/Star Wars aren't really my thing either <.<
I enjoyed the ME games and the Star Wars films but the extended universe stuff isn't reaaaally what I enjoy >.>

However, I find Broken Circle, TFoR-First Strike and Contact Harvest to be particularly good in that series.

ITT recommend books I should buy.
My preferred genres would be Sci-Fi/Military stuff for fiction.
Examples being 40K books, Metro 2033, Sharpe Series and Crowner John.
However, despite my appetite for reading I haven't read a whole lot of sci-fi books outside of the black library stuff >.>
So, recommend shit that I should get over christmas.

It was Cheat.
I've been writing a few theories on the guy lately, but for now I'm just going to go over the ProBoards theory. There isn't actually much to this. It relies on the basic idea that Cheat was jealous that we were all on ProBoards instead of Sep7agon. Angrily watching ProBoards from a distance, he witnessed Comms Officer and SecondClass piss off Noelle and Kinder to the point where they threatened to report the forum and get it taken down for harassment. The entire forum went up in flames with arguments and fights everywhere. In the midst of this chaos was his time to strike. He swiftly wrote up the report and sent it off to ProBoards, accusing us all of heinous crimes, and our fragile little forum was quickly and effectively killed. But that did not stop the Flood. We moved to yet another ProBoards site. But this made Cheat even angrier. He looked into the rules and found that he could get us taken down again for ban evasion. And by the time the site got taken down Sep7agon was ready for launch and we all migrated here, all under the belief that Comms, Noelle, or Kinder were responsible for filing the reports. Unbeknownst to all, it was really Cheat this whole time. And he thought he could get away with it.
And I will make sure Cheat sees this so the moderators responsible are properly dealt with.
So let me get this straight.
Your plan is to try to raise awareness of the conspiracy orchestrated by Cheat... in Cheat's domain.
Good luck with that.
