The Flood / Re: If the draft ever came back would you serve or run?« on: December 19, 2014, 02:04:52 PM »
Since we don't really do the draft in bongistan I don't think it really applies.
Conscription in the face of a serious threat - WW1/WW2 is acceptable and I'd say if you decide to flee to save your own hide and let your friends and family die in your place... ech... that's a pretty shitty thing to do. Going by the scenario in the OP though, and pretending that the UK suddenly starts doing conscription again to fight ISIS... eh... yeah why not. I doubt I'd be a whole lot of use on the frontlines mind you, but if the Artillery/Drone operators have a slot that needs filling then I'd be up for that >.> Or intelligence/translation/medical branches, that would probably suit me the best. 11680

Serious / Re: Removing the mentally incapable from society« on: December 19, 2014, 12:58:02 PM »
I wouldn't support the euthanasia of people with severe mental disabilities.
I think a better option is either prevention (If at all possible) or examining the root causes more so that it can be avoided in the future. People who are brain damaged beyond repair in an accident, I think it's acceptable to turn off life support. And hell if their other organs are good to go, they can save someone else's life with the loss of their own <.< But assuming we are talking about people born with severely crippling mental deficiencies, then yeah, I think if there are charities willing to look after them then that's great but the state has a duty of care to all of it's citizens imo. It shouldn't just throw the retards under the bus because they are expensive to care for. It's not the nicest thing but aborting children who would be born with worse conditions than downs syndrome isn't really a bad thing. I'd say that a better route is to pursue research into the specific causes of these problems so that it can be identified as soon as possible or in the case of IVF the DNA can be analysed for flaws prior to embryo selection <_< 11685

Socialist I don't know if Conservative Liberal means what I think it does, but a generally conservative attitude mixed with liberal views is roughly what I interpret that as. Same for Social Liberal, I'm assuming that just means that you think people should be allowed to mind their own damn business when it comes to putting their whatchyamacallits in other people's doohickeys or getting married to another consenting human etc. 11686

The only remaining ban is on CQB units, which I assume means stuff like breach and clearing or storm assaults (or however they are properly referred to). What shouldn't happen at all, is dual standards. If they want to be frontline soldiers they have to hack it with the rest of them and not have the bar lowered to make things 'fairer'. Regarding conscription/endgame sort of shit, I would expect to see something like that happen anyway. 11688
Serious / Re: EU thinks obesity is now a disability« on: December 19, 2014, 06:51:33 AM »If you actually eat to the point where your ankles snap under your own weight, I'd say that counts as a disability. Just being obese doesn't constitute a disability though, and as flee has pointed out this ruling isn't suddenly going to protectIsn't is arguable that conditiones suffred from being obese count as a disability while obeisity itself does not, in the same way that gender dysphoria counts as a mental disorder while transgenderism itself doesn't? Just being obese doesn't constitute a disability though, and as flee has pointed out this ruling isn't suddenly going to protectI would argue that the medical and physical effects of obesity would make it a disability. It does prevent some normal function. Hmm, I guess I wouldn't rule it out but the trouble with classing it all as a disability is that it could validate it as an excuse for those who just plain and simply eat too much junk food and don't exercise at all <.< IIRC there is a new additive style chemical being trialled that works on the neurotransmitters that control satiation. So basically adding some of this crap to your regular food will make you feel less hungry/less inclined to eat junk food constantly, if it makes it past the 'does it kill anyone' stage, it could be something of a game changer for people who just eat obscene amounts of food. And for regular folks too mind you, helping portion sizes get under control and all that <.< 11692
