That's not a typo.
While you're busy pining away for Google Fiber, a group of researchers at the Technical University of Denmark have been busy putting it to shame. Trumping their last network milestone achieved back in 2009, the group has developed a fiber network that pushes more than 5TB of data per second through a single optical cable.
The network gives users speeds of 43Tbps, which works out to about 5.4TB per second. As the folks at Extreme Tech pointed out, such speeds would allow you to download a 1GB movie in 0.2 milliseconds -- or better said, in the blink of an eye.
The university -- henceforth called DTU -- is notable for many reasons, not the least of which was being the first to exceed the single terabit milestone, something that took place back in 2009. Though hard at work, Karlsruhe Institute of Technology set the latest record back in 2011 at 26 terabits, something that has persisted until now.
The speeds were achieved using a single-laser and single-fiber setup, with multi-core fiber being used to hit the faster speeds. While you won't be seeing these speeds in your home any time soon, it is an important milestone for ushering us closer. http://www.slashgear.com/researchers-achieve-5tb-per-second-fiber-optic-network-milestone-31339460/
There's another active thread about this, speed test something or another. Nice try though.

Would they still be the number one most powerful or would they have dropped down? And if so, how far down? Feel free to include other predictions you have about teh futer.
No, economic collapse:
Either a Hitler will rise to power, or China will cash in their chips and own the US.
That would be hard to do, seeing as they only hold 8% of US public debt.
Pretty sure this thread is theorizing about the future of the US in 100 years, not today. If you extrapolate their ownership of our debt in 100 years I'm sure it comes to significantly more than 8%.

After seeing DTL's post on B.net about making a league on NFL.com, I want to make a league on ESPN for us. Would anyone care to join? It'll most likely be a 12 person league with standard scoring, no PPR.
yeah

The only instance I would say is in self defense. Say if we keep getting DDoS'd.
It's likely this is just one guy or a few of them doing this. Going after the entire off topic wouldn't help things here; it would likely just piss more people off.
Its mutually assured destruction. Would they risk their forum to attack ours?
Cheat, I think this thread would be best served in non-existence.

There is a nuclear option. One that shouldn't be taken lightly, but we should know it exists.
Bungie tied their forums to Destiny. That means their profits as a company rely on the forums being on the up and up.
You want to destroy #Offtopic? Make Bungie nuke it now and forever. Call your local news stations. Report that you know of a video game forum with suspected pedophiles, harassment, bullying etc... Then give them the URL.
If all of us do this, the press inquiries will cause them to nuke the forum so it doesn't hurt their profits. #Destiny, #Bungie etc... Would remain. But #offtopic and any dedicated users there would be removed.
I AM NOT suggesting we do this. Though, if the person who is doing the DDOS attack out of some loyalty to Bungie should read this: We can do this.
Why is any of that necessary? I use both forums, quite happily.

Bad forms of taxation - Court costs - Social Security - Gun registration - Concealed carry permits - Income tax - Obamacare Individual Mandate Excise Tax - Property Taxes - Self-Employment Taxes - Wealth tax - Excise tax - Consumption tax - Gift tax - Inheritance tax
Okay forms of taxation - Tolls - Fishing license - Hunting permits - Traffic fines - Tariffs - Cigarette tax - Corporate income tax - Double taxation - Federal unemployment tax - Food service tax - Gas tax - Liquor tax - Public utility tax - Resort tax - Sales tax - School tax
You'd better have a damn good reason for thinking cigarette, liquor, corporation taxes and tariffs are fine.
First 2: Not a necessity and can increase health risks of people Corporate: Corporations are not people Tariffs: Increases domestic job growth since it's cheaper
You can't seriously call yourself a libertarian and still think taxes should be used to sway people's personal choices. Not to mention, taxation on such goods doesn't stop such behaviour and simply makes people poorer.
If corporations aren't people they can't be properly taxed.
Domestic job growth is meaningless if everybody is poorer because competition is being stifled.

My philosophies, unless political, don't usually come up in conversation with anybody.
So, I guess a change of pace would be interesting for me. I am a nihilist, so ask me anything relating to that I guess.
A quick definition for the uninformed:
Nihilism (/?na?.?l?z?m/ or /?ni?.?l?z?m/; from the Latin nihil, nothing) is a philosophical doctrine that suggests the negation of one or more reputedly meaningful aspects of life. Most commonly, nihilism is presented in the form of existential nihilism, which argues that life is without objective meaning, purpose, or intrinsic value.[1] Moral nihilists assert that morality does not inherently exist, and that any established moral values are abstractly contrived. Nihilism can also take epistemological or ontological/metaphysical forms, meaning respectively that, in some aspect, knowledge is not possible, or that reality does not actually exist. You're fucking emo, QQ more fgt Definition for the uninformed: Nihilist = Emo

As a Journalist, this just pisses me off
NEW YORK -- The Israeli military told The New York Times on Friday to withhold publishing additional information about an Israeli soldier reportedly captured by Palestinian militants until it is first reviewed by a censor.
The Times acknowledged the order in an article Friday on the abrupt collapse of a cease-fire between Israel and Hamas.
The Times added the new paragraph nearly six hours after first publishing the article, according to Newsdiffs, a site that tracks changes in news stories online.
A Times spokeswoman did not have any immediate comment on the paper's handling of the censorship notification.
The Israeli government recently issued a media gag order related to the killings of three Israeli teenagers and one Palestinian teenager, violence that helped lead to the current conflict. While the news media faced restrictions, the Times' Robert Mackey wrote that "a vigorous, at times frightening, public discussion of the killings has continued online based on rumor and leaks used by partisans of both sides to indict their enemies.?
Israeli officials blamed Hamas for abducting the Israeli teenagers, though some intelligence officials have now expressed doubt that Hamas was involved. The resulting war has led to the deaths of nearly 1,500 Palestinians and 56 Israeli soldiers.
In April, the Times acknowledged withholding news that a 23-year-old Palestinian journalist had been arrested because of an Israeli court-imposed gag order. At the time, Jerusalem Bureau Chief Jodi Rudoren told Times? Public Editor Margaret Sullivan that the paper is ?indeed, bound by gag orders.?
Sullivan wrote that Rudoren ?said that the situation is analogous to abiding by traffic rules or any other laws of the land, and that two of her predecessors in the bureau chief position affirmed to her this week that the Times has been subject to gag orders in the past.?
Still, some of the paper?s top editors said they didn?t know the Times abided by such restrictions.
Both Dean Baquet, who was then managing editor and has since been promoted to executive editor, and Susan Chira, a former foreign editor and current assistant managing editor, told Sullivan they "were un Jews controlling the media? You don't say...

There was a time in my life where I enjoyed getting together with my buddies and having dicks shoved up my ass, but that time is over. It is now time for Destiny, fresh dicks...no dicks? fuck I dunno
Seriously though, it is literally the same game year after year. How long does it take people to actually realize and understand this? It is so sad to see people buying the same shit over and over again, because things like that are what ruin other great franchises, like Gears of War Judgement, where the developers tried to make it more like CoD and alienated their entire fanbase.
Yeah, and the only reason I bought it post-World at War (which was a good game) was because of friends playing it, it was a social thing I guess. I never played a new CoD for longer than 2-3 months before trading it in however.
