Keep in mind competition, how much you need the money to eat, and what happens to you when your pimp (me) finds put that you have no money.

Anything by Joss Whedon: Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Dollhouse, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., etc.
Homeland
The Strain (It's looking pretty good so far)
How can you mention Joss Whedon without mentioning Firefly and Serenity? It was by far his best work IMO
That's what the etc. was for, duh. :P

Also, Cabin in the Woods was one of my favorite movies, though it always fools some people into thinking it's an actual horror film, even after they watch it.

That movie was full of good

Results of what? If you don't mind me asking.

- 52% of voters (4,706,659) think the government should expand NASA's budget. .
- 60% of voters (5,723,850) support a rise in the minimum wage.
- 65% of voters (1,715,066) think the government should subsidise wind power.
I don't see your point on these ones.
Well, actually, I don't quite understand what is meant by subsidizing wind power, unless it means that government money goes to private wind farms to fund them.

yeah the government pays wind farmers to farm wind, rather than the free market doing the leg work.
Do they need the subsidies to cover starting costs or something?

Those are covered through grants and tax-credits usually, subsidies are long-term deals to keep the farms alive regardless of the market's response. Most farming in the US is subsidized.
So what I'm gathering here is that wind farming isn't cost efficient and require government assistance to operate? I know that most produce farmers wouldn't be able to live without government help, but you'd think since you don't have to feed windmills...

They aren't self sufficient, require maintenance (regular, dangerous, and costly.) Like most farming, it's necessary but in our 'free market' not viable for sustaining a living without subsidies (some argue this is because of subsidies which is ironic.)

Seriously, the contract I'm on is looking like it's going to turn into a 100k a year salary + bonuses up to 20% per quarter within the year, and until then I'm making ~75% of that in weekly pay  as a 1099. I was on a 7-month unemployed slump before this.
So you don't work for a company at all? You're totally freelance?

Right now yeah, and I'm clearing ~1k a week
Nice. It must be awesome to work for yourself.

Especially when it's all from the comfort of my house, 90% of it anyway. I have no complaints right now.
You ever thought of expanding your operations? Like starting your own business?

No point in incurring the extra cost/pita when 1099 suits all my needs. The business type you are referring is the same as the company who is currently my primary client, which is also the company that will be putting me on full-time this year at the 100k base salary + bonus structure. It might be useful if I wanted to expand beyond my own work and add contractors to my offerings, but I'm good with the direction I'm going atm.
I'm starting college for a computer science degree in August. I'm getting my degree focus in data mining, SQL and the sorts. But there are so many different types of coding that interest me, I don't want to really be specialized in one area.

I still haven't specialized, they key is being able to learn a language/framework on the fly and develop while learning (on time and to spec.) I've been at it for over a decade, and the last 2 years have been the most fruitful in terms of realizing my potential paygrade-wise. It's an extremely competitive market, with 10000 people who know more than you in any given field looking for the same job at any given time.

Networking, and some luck, that's what it takes combined with innate problem solving ability and technical skill. Build your relationships when and as often as you can. Make sure those relationships carry on through the years, as you never know when one might turn into your golden ticket.

Also be prepared for long bouts of unemployment, and if you do have a string of success in terms of work, prepare financially for years of downtime.
Good advice. Noted.

Nothing will teach you better than experience, get in the field asap, school is good and all, but real-world experience is invaluable. Take an internship at an enterprise corp if you can get one, be proactive, and remember things tend to work out over a long enough period of time if you stay positive and keep at it.

Same, I take enough pills where I pass out for a couple hours, wake up and do it all over again. If I didn't, I would sleep once every couple days if I'm lucky.

Meh

Just wait until you guys see A Cheese Potato's internet

Or pretty much any wealthy Floodian's interwebz speed.

Only if they live in a relatively urban area.

Mine is probably the fastest connection you can get around here. One of the shitty perks of living in a mostly rural area.

Florida cable is hit and miss, bright house (Orlando/Central Florida) has decent download with throttled upload while Fios (Tampa Area) has matched upload/download both faster than bright house.

All data taken from poll results of isidewith.com; I'll only use examples where the stupid opinion is within the majority. I will do UK and US polls (I realise some of these will be more controversial than others). Yes, the judgement of stupidity is, in itself, an opinion. I'll put really controversial ones in italics. Particularly egregious statistics will be emboldened.

UK:
- 63% of voters (79,225) think we shouldn't renew our Trident nuclear weapons system.
- 67% of voters (510,605) think we should enact a stricter immigration policy. 9% of the total, however, think we should admit high-skilled workers, so not all bad.
- 73% of voters (329,513) think we shouldn't leave the EU.
- 50% of voters (375,458) think we should decrease foreign aid spending.
- 50% of voters (378,068) think the NHS shouldn't use private services.
- 63% of voters (320,081) think the government shouldn't make spending cuts.
- 58% of voters (297,510) think we should raise corporation tax.
- 61% of voters (293,301) don't support the use of hydraulic fracking.
- 60% of voters (454,913) think we should abolish tuition fees.
- 65% of voters (492,711) are against the establishment of free schools.
- 62% of voters (466,616) are against the legality of zero-hour contracts.
- 53% of voters (399,498) are for the construction of HS2.
- 52% of voters (391,001) are against the declaration of the London Underground as an essential service.

US:
- 52% of voters (4,706,659) think the government should expand NASA's budget.
- 46% of voters (4,327,247; not a majority, but close enough) support Obamacare.
- 73% of voters (5,959,878) support the death penalty.
- 69% of voters (305,699) think immigrants should be required to learn English.
- 67% of voters (369,087) support tougher immigration controls.
- 81% of voters (788,719) support term limits.
- 53% of voters (4,089,920) support the Patriot Act.
- 52% of voters (1,963,582) are against decriminalising drug use.

- 55% of voters (208,318) don't think the government should give immunity to Edward Snowden.
- 78% of voters (3,051,272) think able-bodied adults on welfare should be forced to work.
- 60% of voters (5,723,850) support a rise in the minimum wage.
- 77% of voters (762,252) think Wall Street execs. should be criminally liable for the 2008 financial crisis.
- 57% of voters (2,493,077) think the government should subsidise farmers.
- 62% of voters (6,232,450) think America should expand off-shore drilling.
- 65% of voters (1,715,066) think the government should subsidise wind power.

This is tldr, but let me assure you people are fucking retarded as a whole.

Was it better than the typical comic book movie?
I gave it a B-.
So yes?
It's above average, maybe even good, but it isn't Avengers or Winter Soldier good. You should see it.

You crazy? Winter soldier was good, but too much stereotypical Marvel action romp, illuminati in the shadows fuck yeah murrica type shit. Guardians was just badass, and I have never seen so many people laugh at a Marvel movie, it felt like Portal 2 mixed with Star Wars.

I watch those movies for the stereotypical stuff, a good escape from the usual movies I watch that require thinking.

I know exactly how you feel. . .

How?

I was attracted to this one girl in my class. One day, we started talking, and she's really buddy-buddy now. She keeps telling her friends I'm like the funniest guy ever, and saying "Hi, best friend" whenever I walk past her.

Part of that is because I don't like clingy people, part of it is because I wasn't emotionally attracted to her.

You'll learn, as you get older, if you want to fuck a chick she's either down or she isn't; you'll also learn, that money often motivates certain types of females to be down. All that friend shit, it's great if you want a friend otherwise the bitch is just being a tease, and needs to get fucked.

Would they still be the number one most powerful or would they have dropped down? And if so, how far down? Feel free to include other predictions you have about teh futer.

No, economic collapse:

Either a Hitler will rise to power, or China will cash in their chips and own the US.
That would be hard to do, seeing as they only hold 8% of US public debt.

Pretty sure this thread is theorizing about the future of the US in 100 years, not today. If you extrapolate their ownership of our debt in 100 years I'm sure it comes to significantly more than 8%.
I don't see China's economy holding the way it's been for 100 years, so there's going to be a point where they can no longer invest in US loans.

Yeah I agree China is a flash in the pan
