Good read for hard determinists. I lean towards soft determinism myself.
Thank you, that was interesting, i just have an issue when he says "the “laws” of physics treat time as symmetrical, which means that the present and the future “fix” the past just in the same way in which the past “fixes” the present and the future. No particular area of the time axis has priority over the others." If he's trying to make a case for the existence of free will, why does he cite this claim? If things are symmetrically fixed, then isn't hard determinism further proven?

Sprott found a three-dimensional system with just five terms, that had only one nonlinear term, which exhibits chaos for certain parameter values. What do you mean by exhibits chaos? how does it manifest in regards to the equation?

Why? How did you come to that conclusion? logic newton's laws of motion
Do you believe that your life, past present and future, has already been determined? essentially, yes
Do you have free will? no
not that i can tell
memes aside, doesn't that make you want to kill yourself? What is there to live for if autonomy and time are illusions?

Still, if existence just so happens to be infinite, then what could ever conceive or process enough information to predict the future of something of that scale?
God, or that which people call God nope
hard determinist here anything can be predicted with enough info
Why? How did you come to that conclusion? Do you believe that your life, past present and future, has already been determined? Do you have free will? Apparent randomness is the result of unsophisticated measuring tools, though on the quantum level we do see the necessity of uncertainty, though it is not the same as randomness.
So the difference between random and uncertain is how we perceive it?

i don't mean like the edgy shadow the hedgehog version of chaos. I mean, do you believe that there is a random element to the universe? Or can everything be predicted with enough information? This has been bothering me lately and I value your esteemed opinions and ideas.

Not really though. It's an illusion that that is the case because it applies to you.
You'll know for sure if you're reading your type vs a similar type.
You might be right, but i usually find myself agreeing with only half of their explanation. I don't find myself to be as empathetic as they are implying.
But what about that time we held each other and cried together at the end of Toy Story 3?
The tears started to flow and then you cradled me in your loving midget arms
Is that what empathy is?

idk if these tests are a load of shit or i'm just answering them inaccurately but every time i take one i get a different type. First it was INTJ, then INTP, then ISFP, and now ISFJ. I guess i'm just introverted and everything else is up in the air.
You really have to pay attention to some of the questions, they can be worded strangely.
I took it again and got the same ISFJ. My problem with these tests is that their explanations of the personality types are so general they could apply to almost anyone. It's like reading a horoscope.

It's not something only a few people experience, it's a common thing. And it's when one the firing of one sense invokes feelings of the others, like feeling sand and being reminded of a beach, so you hear waves in your mind.
I didn't say it was uncommon. Almost everyone could relate to your example. I'm just wondering if anyone else experiences color association with thought alone. Like for me, the number 4 feels orange and the number 5 feels blue. I don't know why those colors correspond to those numbers, it's just what my brain automatically does.

For example, I associate January with a light blue/green color. February is a deep red with a slight purple tint. March is a bright green. Those are stupid colours for those months.
Well I guess my brain is stupid. Tell me your couoluours please.

Synesthesia is a neurological phenomenon in which stimulation of one sensory or cognitive pathway leads to automatic, involuntary experiences in a second sensory or cognitive pathway. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SynesthesiaFor example, I associate January with a light blue/green color. February is a deep red with a slight purple tint. March is a bright green. It's not just with months, but also people, places, objects, words, concepts, patterns of thought, numbers, letters, etc. All of these things invoke an abstract feeling of color in my mind. It also happens when listening to music where every instrument has it's own pulsation of color. I used to think that everyone was like this, until a friend showed me the wikipedia page. When I told him I have this, he thought I was crazy, but it's apparently pretty common. So I was just wondering if anyone here experiences this, and if so, please tell me your colors from 0-9.
