Tell that to him, I use a definition, a fact-and he tries to dispute it. And then he does it again. Is there a reason that you are siding with him?
By using the word differently than verb uses it you are talking past him.  You may very well present a valid position that in no way contradicts verb's position.  But then don't pretend you've proven him wrong.
If he is unwilling to use the standard definition required to adequately communicate then I am unwilling to consider his position on the matter, if you were to attempt to do what he is doing in a debate you'd be ignored.
Then you think when verb replies "I don't care" to a thread, that he is using the term incorrectly.  You don't think he actually secretly cares but doesn't want to admit it.  Why didn't you say so in the first place?  (That is, you're not arguing about concepts, you're arguing about words)

That is a valid position to hold.  But that said,
Spoiler
I don't care
if you think he's using the word incorrectly.

And it's not the subject of this thread.

As a side note this is why when you take logic classes they just use arbitrary symbols and don't even pretend definitions are a thing that matter to the structure of an argument.

...except i never use dictionary definitions as counter-arguments

ever

because i know they're arbitrary
I'd say a dictionary definition of a word is as far from being subject to one's discretion or opinion as possible. Quite simply you are spouting bullshit
Ask yourself this question whenever you're in an argument and that argument is not explicitly about language and diction.

Am I arguing about concepts, or am I arguing about definitions?

If you are ever doing the latter, it's time to stop posting.

Protip: you can grant anyone any definitions they want at any time, as long as their premises, argument, and conclusion are consistent which their use of those definitions.  It literally will not impact the outcome of any discussion outside of those on language/diction.

In other words, you cared about what they wrote.
But not about the subject they wrote about.

"Lol dictionary definitions only count when they suit me"
Arguing about definitions is the worst unproductive nonsense.  You are using the term differently than verb is using it.  If your entire position hinges on misunderstanding what verb is saying, then that's really your problem and not a problem with the argument.

If you truly didn't care, you wouldn't have reacted to whatever you supposedly don't care about.
If I were to ask you your opinion on a topic you genuinely didn't care about how would you respond

Let's assume we're friends and we're having a conversation.

Gaming / Re: Yeah, Uncharted 4 is gonna be 30fps
« on: January 15, 2015, 07:04:24 PM »
Computing power is finite, any particular decision to aspire for higher graphical fidelity is a trade-off with other parts of the game, trying to pick out any one specific decision (like 30 vs 60 fps) as universally correct or incorrect is a very difficult argument to make.

if you aren't going to contribute to the thread, then why post at all?
Whether or not other people care about the subject is in most cases new information that adds to the thread.

The only reason to single out "I don't care" as a response is because it comes across as confrontational and dismissive which brings us back to this

is that your way of getting back at me for not caring
yes

You're acting like if you don't let people know that you don't give a shit then everyone will think you do.

Sorry Verby, this must be hard to accept. But you are not the center of everyone's universe.
Talking specifically about forums for the moment, when you start a topic seeking the opinions of your fellow members, "I don't care" is a perfectly valid reply to your request for member opinions.  Your attempted rebuttal applies to literally any stated opinion by any member and you've given no justification to single out this particular response as unwarranted.

The Flood / Re: (☠) "you cared enough to respond"

Your topic is about explaining why posting "i don't care" in a thread doesn't mean that you care.
no it isn't

it's about saying that you don't care in general

it doesn't necessarily have to be a thread
Well, okay then.

But explain this,

Why do you need to let people know that you don't care about something? I can understand if you disagree with the topic you're talking about, but if you just have flat-out NO desire at all in the subject then why bother even posting?
Depending on context "I don't care" can be a perfectly valid and on-topic response.

As a general rule though I place very little to no stock in intuitive arguments about what is likely the most unique instant in all of space and time, so you can feel free to just dismiss anything I say about it really

This is why science isn't based on philosophical rhetoric
