The rest of us have a less stressful work environment, more working rights, better vacation, time at home, and a better place to call home. You work a 8 hour job and live in a decent neighborhood, correct? Well the job for military can be 24 hours (if on duty) or doesn't end at 5pm; Hell, you're basically on the clock 24/7 if you're out on deployment. And don't forgot base housing is pretty bad, especially since you're required to live on base for the first year or so you join up The rest of us have great lives when compared to the military and while money is a huge factor, another and probably an even bigger is morale and the ability to keep these people in service for at least 20 years. The military is the nation's BIGGEST investment and to get the biggest bang for their buck, the government has decided to provide amenities to keep them and military families happy.

Well the golf course at the Navy base somewhat close to me is open for all active duty and retired military. There's also a Marine base that has a gun range. These type of facilities are an unwritten necessity. Just imagine if you had to live on a government base for a few years or were in the military in general, you would want forms of entertainment

Biggest thing is money For those who just get in, money can be very tight, especially if trying to raise a family. Amenities such as movie theaters, bowling alleys, gyms, swimming pools, etc can either be free or cost less on base than off It's also just the perks of signing up and having to be deployed, move many times, and be away from your family for months at a time. Yeah sure, they signed up on their own behalf but it's still something to show some gratitude. All of this dwarfs in comparison to the true wasting when it comes to purchasing new tanks that have no use or buying fighter jets that will never see combat
