Politicians represent themselves first and the public 2nd. If there's no incentive for them on a piece of legislation then they are not going to support it

This song details political revolutions (electing new leaders) that have not turned into actual revolutions (taking over the state) as the people have grievances and 'seize the throne' points to putting a new popular government into power, but it's still the 'same old story' (government incapable of transforming the relations that are behind the suffering)

The lyrics then say that the revolution has 'not gone far enough', and that they should have 'burned [the throne] to the ground'. This is saying that they need to turn a minor political revolution into a social revolution, and instead of just capturing the state apparatus, the revolution must smash the state and replace it with a system designed from the ground up to serve the interests of the masses

The best example that comes to mind is the recent Egyptian revolution where the people have replaced the president twice due to the concept of it being "the same old story"
