Common core is making children dumber.
And yet Kentucky showed an increase in high school graduation from 80pc to 86pc over the course of three years.
Y'know, for people willing to (rightly) attack the one-size-fits-all approach, you really are all too willing to use a one-size-fits-all criticism.
All this proves is that an education standard designed specifically for one state will better it. What is good for Kentucky may not be good for New York, Oklahoma, Nevada, Hawaii, or any other place. What you've proven by linking this is that each state should at the least design it's own educational structure, not the federal government

Serious?
America
What are you eating for dinner?
Chicken and mashed potatoes.
I'm not trying to hurt your feelings (really), and this has nothing to do with your victuals, but you're very american. You know that, right?
Okay...? Normally Americans live in America, and most of the time they are pretty American.
You seem patriotic though.
Yes, I wrap myself in the American flag naked while serving apple pie and singing the pledge of allegiance, and watching the Super Bowl at the same time.
lol
This post gave me freedom

Anyway, Kinder, I'd like to know what your issue is with Common Core, other than it being liberal-backed (which should have no bearing on it's validity).
I'm assuming you know that it does not impose a specific curriculum or set any kind of limit for education, only a set of minimum standards.
I despise Common Core because it's forcing all schools to adjust education to meet a dumb-down national standard that will benefit weaker, inner city schools. It's easier to downgrade the education of a more prestigious school because it's just less work for students but upgrading education in a crap school will result in more students dropping out on top of the outrageous current drop out percentage.

telling about creationism gives another view and refrains from making education a one-sided concept. Education is a one-sided concept because there is only one side - facts.
We don't teach numerology, astrology, or phrenology for a reason.
A theory is valid as long as there is no evidence to dispute it. Therefore, theories can be disproven. Basically, if evidence accumulates to support a hypothesis, then the hypothesis can become accepted as a good explanation of a phenomenon. So you're partially correct when science teaches facts, but science is the general consensus on a subject and can possibly be disproved with more research in the future Saying that teaching creationism will make people dumber is kinda redundant. Brazil forbids the teaching of evolution but still ranks lower than American science courses. On the other hand you have Germany which discusses creationism and it's education is ranked far higher than America's

Republican views on education are simple: Get feds out of education.
Right, so they can get the Bible into education.
What if I told you getting the fed out is the same view expressed by Libertarians?
I was aware of this, but you referred specifically to the Republicans. And we all know what the Republican motivation is, here.
Because Max asked for the Republican's idea of education? He didn't ask for the Libertarian's

Teachers should also be teaching, not reciting from a xerox paper and passing the same paper to students, just with blanks. Well, that's not what teachers do, so I'm not sure what to tell you.
Parents also need to be a voice in education and the school adjust based on the input
...and that's how we get biology teachers having to talk about how "evolution is one idea, but there are others"
Except it is what they do. I have a brother in middle school and I graduated high school two ears ago. It's the practice being used Don't see the problem; education is the process of acquiring knowledge, esp systematically during childhood and adolescence. telling about creationism gives another view and refrains from making education a one-sided concept. I'd be open to a section discussing atheism in a religious studies class because it's related to it, just as how creationism is related to a idea of how life began

I find it interesting that it's pretty much only conservative sources talking about it
Well, CommonCore is a liberal policy. Why would a liberal source link to something that goes against the policies of politicians they support?
Just because it's supported by liberals [and a number of conservatives, mind you] doesn't mean it's some attack by liberals to try to inject the public school system with their positions.
I'd love to see what conservatives would propose we do to reform schools, but they haven't proposed fuck-all.
http://www.republicanviews.org/republican-views-on-education/http://www.scpie.org/alternatives/Republican views on education are simple: Get feds out of education. What works in one state, or city, will not work for another. Education needs to be built from the ground up based on the needs of students of each school. Teachers should also be teaching, not reciting from a xerox paper and passing the same paper to students, just with blanks. Teachers also should be more firm and strict with students, not this whole "you're still a winner even if you loose" because that's not what college or the real world is like. Parents also need to be a voice in education and the school adjust based on the input

You guys never used number lines in school?
I think so, but that wasn't the focus and was only used as an alternative to simple 9-3=6 subtraction. Now schools are placing these CommonCore concepts ahead of 6+3=9 and 5*2-4=6

I don't see what this is supposed to teach.
And that's the point. It's supposed to replace simple subtraction. But in the real world, you're going to do traditional subtraction over this shit

I am glad I am no longer in school. I have honestly learned much more after graduating than I ever did in school.
Not only that, but I've learned more in a few weeks of college than 12 years in public schooling. Being made to work and holding a person responsible is the direction that needs to be taken, not this B.S where grades are replaced with things like "satisfactory and unsatisfactory". Education has turned into babying and shielding when reality is that you will be expected to complete a task or be in serious trouble

jesus, what the frack is this shit kids are learning now? FFS, if this is what the retards in public school are learning then I'm gonna fracking homeschool my kids if we decide to have them.
Yeah, this is only the beginning. Stihl is a HUGE employer where I live and they've commented on how terrible education here is compared to Germany, same with BMW and they had to give like $3M to a S.C college so they can train new employees to be competent to work in their factory If I ever have kids then they're going to be sent to private school or be home-schooled
