Then it's probably a WASR. There may be some problems because of that. Look up some videos on how your AK should look so you know you didn't get ripped off. There's not much that can be wrong with an AK, but if there is, it's either nothing to worry about or gunbreaking.

If it's an 08 build or later, he should be fine. Shot almost a thousand rounds through mine and no issues. If he has a Tapco trigger and a clean and uniformed engraving rather than a sloppy hand-done engraving, good chances it's one of the newer built ones

If anything, I'd be worried about having a canted front sight and the headspace

Yeah, but I managed to pick up a tool that seems to fix cant issues but it's something to expect among many slav rifles and it's not difficult to adjust your aim for
