Everyone has the right so say stupid racist/ other ist shit, but everyone else has the right to call them out or not listen to such stupid shit. Free speech says you can say what you want, it never says anything about being listened to.

Serious / Re: Your opinion on "Innocence"
« on: December 06, 2014, 04:25:58 AM »
Everyone gets that reference.

Anywho, only children are innocent. Then they do something like steal from their siblings or take from a candy store or something like that, and that's the start of many, many little things from there on out.

I don't get it.

OT If you are living of other people's shit lives (Such as Chinese underpaid workers) then you're hardly innocent.

Don't mistake me for a moralfag though. I think that it's a necessary thing in the world we live.

Serious / Re: How would you answer this moral problem?
« on: December 05, 2014, 02:00:56 PM »
Let's not argue about the semantics of the situation. Assuming a utopia is defined as 1, this hypothetical world lies at 0.9 recurring. We're also assuming that reaching 1 isn't a possibility, and rescuing the child would reduce the net rating of the world.

Anybody who chooses to rescue the child is simply being irrational. Especially when you could just leave the city. However, this leads to the second question - which nobody has answered. Is it more or less cruel to stay in or leave the city?

If you leave, you obviously care about the child but wish to abandon rather than save. If you stay, you just don't care.

I'd argue both are equal.

Fairly certain I had a dream about this once...

Anyway, I'd probably want to help the kid, but realize that in doing so I'd set the entire city against me and most likely end up dead. I'd rather not be skun alive. This leaves the option of either accepting the child's life as a fact and the reason for my happiness and moving on, or being repulsed by it to the point where I can no longer stand to live in the city. The later option is really no better, because nothing changes for the child. He's still living the same way he was before I'd have left.
May as well just utilize the fruits of his suffering. It would be rude not to.

Like Psy said though. It's never going to be a utopia, if one person suffers.
One person suffering while everybody else leads perfect lives? It's simple mathematics.

Again - it's not a utopia in that case.
Technically, no.

But it's pretty damn close and that's good enough for me. Imagine. One person suffering and that's it. It'd be paradise.

But how long would the suffering remain only for the kid? Even in the utopia.

I'd presume until they die, or that they are eternally a child, in which case forever.

If you're asking why the child is maintaining this utopia, you're completely missing the point.

I'm just presuming they have superpowers that could destroy the entire thing if not contained, therefore meaning if released many people would die. Or a disease like being patient 0 of a zombie virus.

... Not even close.

I already answered. Regardless, i can sacrifice one for the good of 100. I was just making a little explanation/ stupid thing to justify it. I mean, why would a kid bring down peace anyway? Unless its a chav.

Unless this is some story I've never heard of.

You don't even need to ask that. Most people here have been and will be nothing but supportive.

I know. But trappy is strange. I probably don't have to tell any of you that. The thing with trappy, is that if you tell him you care, it bounces off of him. "Oh how are you doing Sandy I was so worried" yada yada, won't even affect him. To him, simple actions speak volumes more to him than words. And I know that's a little hard to ask since this is the internet and all. I mean what else could you do other than words? The simple thing you can do, is show up. Have a presence.

Do you mean IRL? Like, across the water?

No. Just show up here. Say hello. Just, talk with him. Don't cry in his direction. Talk with him like you normally would. Trappy hates being under the spotlight, and really, really seems to close up if you throw love his way for some reason. But if you just talk, he'll feel better.

And you might ask about the thread he made. That put him under the spotlight. And he talked to me personally. He wanted to dissappear off the radar and let that six month thing go into effect if he didn't make it. But he listens to his heart. He cares more about people than himself. And those messages of his, were more about saying goodbye to friends and people here.

Never once have I ever known him not to say goodbye to me. Always says hello, always says goodbye in case something happens. So the fact that he didn't just leave without a word, shows how much he cares about people here. He fought his own depression and anxiety about having attention on himself and made it known what was happening.

So just on the forum? Shit, I can do that. We have a regular PM for talking about writing, I'm sure having something to take his mind off things would be good.

Here's the thing. I might not even be able to get him to talk. But what I might be able to do, is use his care against him. I know that he'll want to check on friends. That's probably the best thing I'll be able to use on him to show up here. If you see him on, swarm him.

Well tell him Bacon could always use some help with his writing :3

Answer: I'd stay. I'm a 1vs100 kind of guy.

Also, if I was 100% certain, I would consider it, at least.

So how do you plan on writing the actual main book then? As in, have you decided 1st/3rd, size, chapter structure etc...?

I have every chapter and the ending planned out. It's just writing to that framework now, though I spend more time on the lore which never gets mentioned. It's like Halopedia before writing Halo.

Alright. I'm posting this as a general background to my science-fiction universe- Exodus. It is just a general backstory to the current setting and serves to explain some of the inter-species relations, technology and major timeline events.

Spoiler
When humans ascended into space, they came into first contact in the midst of a civil war between two alien factions. Both factions saw humans as an enemy on the side of the other, and humans were temporarily at war. However, one faction- the Collective- realised their mistake, and offered to help the new empire at a cost; humans assisted in repelling the other, and became a military power, with many more resources to compensate for weaker technology. Gradually, they gained influence over many aspects of the Collective eventually restructuring into the Imperium. However, many xenophobic attitudes remained from the brief skirmishes, and the Imperium's laws gradually became more and more pro-human, making many leave Imperial space to form militias and guerilla armies. With an increasing amount of these sentiments, the Imperial Parliament realised that an uprising was inevitable, so a contingency was devised. Exodus was a system on the edge of known space, and had two habitable worlds and many ore-rich bodies. It was built up and classified, being a 'nuclear bunker' system in case of a major rebellion. However, rebellion never came, due to a series of anomalies in space created from mining of elements from an alternate dimension known as the Arva, with properties that could bend and completely ignore known physics. Such anomalies could be simple cracks in a planet or complete mysteries the size of entire star systems; two of the largest being one that separated known space from unexplored Rogue Territory, the other surrounding the Sol System, both of which hampering space travel and bending light. In 2654, these anomalies would be used as wormholes by a new empire; The S'pher, exterminating humans to stop the practice of this mining by making a swift blow at Earth in 2654. In the ensuing 20 years, all human territory would be taken apart from the Exodus and a handul of other systems. Here, humans would build and prepare for retaking their planets. In 2684 they would launch a reclamation campaign into the first territories, soon growing into a huge multi frontal assault across hundreds of worlds. In 2702, the final battle would dawn as thousands of ships and milions of personnel would begin the invasion of Earth and decide the endgame. One squad would find out the reason why the S'pher were doing and (This is the pplot of the book) decide between the fate of humans and the entire universe.

TL;DR: Anyway, if you want me to continue posting stuff like this, just leave a reply. I know there's a few people here who've been helpful in my various projects and I hope to continue posting stuff from my writing!
