People on PC really aren't used to much in this game. I've only played for like an hour and am using the default classes and titans.
For the amount of time I've see people talk about how complex TF is, the community is pretty sensitive.
Learn to use the Mastiff/ EPG/ Softball/ Cold War if you want to get fanmail. Don't use SMG shittery.

I think you can still find the main (aka the good) playlists. Attrition and whatnot. But I asked /tfg/ and the one guy who responded said the active playerbase is less than half that of console.

Halo 5 is the only Halo game that I would consider to be a genuinely bad game in basically every aspect - even Reach and 4 had some redeeming aspects.
Between the writing, level and map design, shoddy lighting and texturing, lack of features, microtransactions, the horrifically designed UI, the numerous bugs and glitches that are in it to this day that even make something like looking around a chore because of inconsistent inputs, terrible art direction and ridiculous storage requirements on the hard drive it's the only game I can really say I have ever regretted buying.
Reach had some great aesthetics, invasion and custom games and 4 had some decent writing and some decent new gametypes and looked pretty good considering the hardware it was running on. 5 is a bug-filled mess that neither looks good artistically or technically and disappoints on pretty much every front.

didn't lose anyone on my first run. still not sure how people managed to do that.
I remember in my first run I decided to restore Tali's rep with the fleet and then later picked her to go into the vents for some reason. I mean it made sense in terms of "hey she's an engineer so she'd be good here" and I already wanted robro for my squad, but on reflection it was a bit of a stupid decision. Also I think I didn't find one of the normandy upgrades so Jack died.

The second you get a gun and a decent supply of ammo, no game can be scary.
Alien Isolation does a good job of that. You have a revolver, and later get flamethrowers and shit but beyond scaring off the Xeno temporarily they largely serve to attract the alien or show just how fruitless attacking it is. Then again I'm not particularly into horrow games as a genre and largely enjoy AI based off the Alien stuff, not the horror elements so maybe it's actually pretty shit for someone who is more experienced with the genre.
