Time to pay our respects I guess...
I'm not particularly upset with the Rookie dying as a concept, it's just unbelievable how he died.
God damn ungrateful Innie scum. Where were they when UNSC Personnel were dying by the millions just so a few more civilian transports could evac off a planet?
Stealing nukes from Fleetcom, no doubt.
The issue we should be having is that a guy who's gone toe-to-toe with Brute. Motherfucking. Chieftains, and managed to survive in a city completely under occupation got killed the way he did. I think the Rookie needed to be killed off for my reasons already listed, but he should have had one a bit more fitting to his character; after the shit in Dirt and H3ODST, being captured by a human opponent seems almost underwhelming for him .

Why is he still 'Rookie'? The guy survived New Mombasa on his own, brought his squad together, and provided the most valuable source of information they ever had.
Still ridiculous to kill him off, let alone outside of a game.
He was new to the squad, so they called him rookie. Obviously he's a badass since he's an ODST, and Dare even comments on how odd it is that he's called a 'rookie' when he's arguably the most competent of the squad when he meets her in the tunnels, but he's still the newest member of the squad.
Yeah, obviously that's why he's called Rookie in the game. But after those events, it doesn't make sense for anyone to continue calling him that. It'd be more of an insult than anything, not endearing or buddy-buddy at all. Not to mention that it would have helped remove him from the context of the game, where he's a faceless, voiceless surrogate for the player, allowing the writer to characterize him better.
As I said in a prior post, it has a bit of a conflict. You've seen the backlash from idiots who want John to be a silent protagonist, giving Rookie an actual character would piss a lot of people off. Likewise, keeping him there would annoy others who want an actual character- I do wish we got a name, though the Buck (cwatididthar?) does mention hwo it's odd that they still call him rookie despite him having prior experience (See: Dirt) Killing him off is probably the best solution- though I would have preferred him to be a part of Fireteam Crimson, but whatever.

From what I can gather, Mickey refused to shoot an insurrectionist which caused the Rookie to be killed.
Is this correct?
Yes, which is rather bizarre since he could mow through the Covenant with no problem.
He had never had to kill a Human before, so...
That's bullshit.
that He never had the opportunity to kill a human, I can believe that. But ODSTs have been engaging Insurrectionists for decades. He should have been able to make that judgement.
Of course, Since 343 is done crucifying Halsey, I guess they have to make Innies sympathetic. Disgusting.
How is it bullshit? He was born during the fucking Human/Covenant War. Unless he took up a hobby of killing humans in his off duty hours, the chances of Mickey having to kill a human is next to none.
They're not making Innies sympathetic. They're putting a character who's never killed a human before in a situation he's completely new to.
I can't imagine killing a human who is part of a group he's been told from birth were the enemy, and who happens to be pointing a gun at a close friend, would be much more difficult than killing an alien.
He's an ODST, he was ordered to kill her, so that's what he should have done. Suddenly pussing out and ignoring a direct order when an ally is in danger is the exact opposite of their past characterization.
Except that, for the most pat, the URF (And various other militia) worked alongside the UNSC against the Covenant; such as the UNSC assisting the rebels in the Rubble when their colony was attacked by the Covenant.

So do we all play ODST in pepperoni for Rookie?
We have to be sure we kill that faggot Micky too.
I really really hope he joins the NCA.

I am so confused. Is this canon? If so, from what?
Its from the novel "New Blood", and yes, it's canon.
Unfortunately.
Why? Why would she kill him? What the hell is going on with Halo's canon?
Because she was an Insurrectionist. Why wouldn't she kill him?
Wait? I thought someone said Palmer killed him. Who killed him exactly?
URF captain Ingridson on Buck's Homeworld of Draco III.

Also, rookies death is a good thing. Bungie basically went for the 'you are the character' bullshit excuse for lazy writing and made no backstory aside from Dirt. If 343 expanded on his character and made him a character they'd get flak from all the idiots who think John talking more is bad, and if they kept him alive but called him rookie all the time and never expanded on him then that would piss off people who want actual characters. This is a compromise that's pretty good and serves well for later dialogue and story in the book. The only regret was that they should have at least revealed his name.

I just want to say; if halo should cater its competitive multiplayer towards the MLG arena crowd, they should do the same with its lore and cater it towards the people who actually give a shit about it beyond the 5 hours of story most people may never play again.it should be connected into the books and other media or you can't get a good story going in regards to keeping a constant narrative. If you just go for ODST-esque isolated stories you end up with a narrative that is fragmented and feels isolated from the other stuff going on.

Halo: new Blood, the digital novel that cane out yesterday. It's a good read, especially if you liked ODST.

People bitch about 343i not explaining the Covenant in Halo 4 but Bungie did the exact same thing in Halo: CE and didn't explain their motivations until 2-3 years after.
Retarded logic.
It's not. However, explaing something 3 years later is what's retarded.
Or the fact we weren't told how the war started until nearly nine years after the first media and 2 after the media depicting the end of the war.

Eh. I have ha zero problems with my xbone since I got it. I have all the games I want for it right now apart from metro and then a bunch of games are coming out this year that I want.
So I'm happy, but it sucks when yor console breaks. My 360 stopped reading discs (was saying 'Open tray' all the time) so I couldn't do anything for two weeks apart from watch YouTube videos. That said, that was the only problem I ever had with my 360 in the 5 years I've had it so I'm not complaining. It just sucked it decided to break on my birthday, the one time I ever have friends over at my house.
You just have to keep opening it an taking the disc out.
Funnily enough though, every MS published game works fine.
Nah. Apparently it's a common problem for older 360's. plus, no games or DVDs worked on it before I got it repaired.

It was bad. Religious and political discussions were forbidden, first of all. And everyone there acted like Halo 3 was the greatest game ever.
Glad to see some things don't change then.

Eugh. what annoys me more is how anyone who watches it suddenly thinks they actually know anything about science and that kind of culture. When they don't. At all.

In roughly 100 trillion years the ratio of energy to matter in the universe will be the same and no more chemical reactions will happen- no more stars will be born. and that is not even a benchmark on the timescale of the universe, so why should I give a shit about something now that will ultimately affect nothing?
Basically, people are unimportant and replaceable and nothing we will ever do will impact the universe at large.

> preorder > book > literally infinite digital copies
why?
Because I wanted it already downloaded so I could read it at school tomorrow. And there aren't any physical copies. Now I have to avoid anything halo related like the fucking plague until they decide to release a paperback copy so I don't get spoilers.

Nah. I had a group of friends at my last school but I stopped taking to them pretty quickly after I left- mainly because I went to a different school. But I don't really care. The only annoying thing is that I never got my Death Troopers book back.

Star Wars Battlefront.
That's all I have to say, I haven't really ever been much of a social person. Before I got Internet I just spent my days replaying the same maps over and over again. Never got boring.
I also read a lot, more than I do now. A lot of science books and novels- I read the entire Harry potter series in like, two weeks when I was like 8 or something.

Isn't it that dark souls clone?
I don't really care for it.
Nah, you could argue Dark Souls was a Demon Souls clone but DS was a spiritual successor.
Guy who did DS1 is doing Bloodborne (Miyazaki) and the only real similarities are the Soulsy gameplay. Not a clone though if you've seen gameplay videos and all that.
I dunno why people hawked on you. A simple answer explaining would have solved it, though you did make it sound like it was just a lazy clone or something kinda.
Eh. It's more of the case that if it the same studio doing the same game, why not just make it a sequel?

I have a project I'm working on with friends. It's only just started, but we'd probably be using this place as a home base at least at the start.
But if it gets some traction, then we'd definitely help guide some people here, at least I hope.
