I like how halo reach made you think you were going to be in a big battle but then you get rused at the last second and you're barely fighting a firefight while the big war rages on in the background, then again on the space level where you think you're about to do some Star Wars battlefront level dogfighting and you fight a handful of enemies at a time

Now I think about it, why were you even going across that bridge anyway? I mean, how were they expecting to fit a big convoy of 40+ hogs and several tanks down a small dirt track?

But seriously; I always liked how Halo sniper missions give you more ammo than you would be able to otherwise carry (CE and Reach, anyway).

Ah well, I'm applying for a btec in computer games worth 3 a levels, except no exams, just coursework.

Sounds loads better.
It actually isn't that much better doing it that way. I guarantee your tutors will fuck up and either incorrectly mark your paperwork, or loose some of it (more than likely this)

Happened to me multiple times.

I'm working on computers, so I'd imagine that would mean I'll be doing digital work. So I'd be able to keep backups.

Have people taken advantage of hydroturbines along tides and currents?

Seems like that would receive less complaints and maybe even generate a bit more energy.

With the risk of fault from fish, litter and other shit being mushed up in it when the tide comes. Plus, it's more expensive to build underwater than to build a big tower.

What the pay off is in terms of energy, I can't say.

One argument against the implementation of wind farms is that they can disrupt the migratory patterns of birds. There have been cases of flocks being taken out by windmills (as funny as that is to imagine, it is a problem).

Otherwise I'm all for wind farms and personally I find them really cool. I've seen a handful of mills generate enough power for an entire city in southern Italy.

Yeah. I'm not against people who have legitimate reasons. But spoiling a view is just the worst.

Strafe / gamma jumping and other forms of advanced movement. Way too little games have this kind of stuff.

Yeah, I think Titanfall's movement physics are what make the game for me. I vastly prefer zipping around the map with parkour than stomping around in a Titan.

7149
Well wind farms aren't exactly sustainable anyway so it kind of is a legitimate argument.
Elaborate.
They're highly inefficient, AFAIK. Nuclear is the way to go.

I'll agree there. But then there's the whole issue of what to do with the waste, and what happens if/ when we were to run out of uranium. Plus the risks of a chernobyl/ fukushima incident happening again.

Ideally, we could just build a gigantic mass driver and shoot the waste into the sun, but we don't have that option yet, sadly.

I do agree that renewable sources aren't exactly the most reliable, but they are also a thing that is a useful 'support' role to nuclear or fossils. They wouldn't work on their own, but that doesn't discredit their usefulness.

Britain doesn't even look nice in the first place, so they really have no argument.

It does where I live. Probably because there's not that many people around.

I mean, I went to Manchester the other week for comic con. And London a few years before. Both were awful, I hope I never live in a city. Can't stand urban areas.

I fucking hate this argument. I neer really understood the notion tht some people think having a pretty view out of ther window is more important than not fucking up the planet. I say this, because (where I live at least) it's a perfect location for wind farms- hills and really fucking windy. Personally, in of the belief that we should be getting as many as possible down so that if/ when fossil fuels stop being easily accessible, we aren't going back to the dark ages. And fuck nuggets like those are basically against that because they want a nice view.

Similarly, I don't understand why 'listed buildings' aren't allowed solar panels. Who cares if it looks pretty? If every south-facing house in the country (Im on about Britain here) was able to produce more electricity than it used, that would be fucking great. But again, people seem to think things looking nice is more important than not fucking up for the next 100 years.

So, to add discussion value, why do you think of this? Do you agree with the whole "it spoils my view" thing or do you think that it's a load of crap that shouldn't be listened to? I'm of the latter.

I don't understand why people want to spend money on doing stuff like coal mines instead of just making a shit ton of wind farms at sea.

I mean, we're a fucking island. We could blanket the coast with 'em and that's pretty much all the coastal towns done. Blanket the hills in the Pennines and up Scotland way and that's another lot of energy saved.

Like, surely it would do better in the long run to start using that kind of stuff rather than more fossil fuels? Less money spent invading oil-rich countries when we don't need it, less money spent buying and importing the damn stuff. I'm not an economics expert, but a massive overhaul where we begin a slow but steady transition to stuff like that would be much better in the long run, right?

It's better with the Grunt Funeral skull.

Cowbell + Grunt Funeral is probably one of the most fun ways to end your own life in Halo.

And remarkably efficient for clearing a room on legendary.

Like, setting off a chain reaction in a semi-enclosed space can wipe out and entire squad with one pistol round.

pace of breathing changes after fights and stuff

cant be bothered to explain it
What games is that in?
I never really thought of this tbh but I like the idea a lot now >.>

it happens thru-out the battlefield series, i think

i know for a fact that in bf4 and hardline, your character would be gasping/panic breathing whenever you're getting shot at/explosion

it really is a nice detail and gives more of that "i'm in actual combat" feel

Yeah. I love how when you're being shot at (without being hit), your screen goes all blurry and your health doesn't regenerate. It really makes firing randomly in the general vicinity of someone useful for the team. I love playing as a support and bipoding down to just send a couple hundred bits of lead down range to keep people in cover and let my teammates go round and kill them.

All the suppression assists for me.

I use the Gamepad's screen a fair bit. It seems to have better resolution than my TV anyway, and I can play when my Mum or Sister are watching something on TV. It's well appreciated, despite being a gimmick.

I also love the ridiculous compound effect of explosions in Halo CE. Elites (namely spec-ops and Zealots) tend to drop a lot of grenades after dying, and a single explosion can result in a lot of humor to be had.

Road Rash 64 also had unrealistically forceful collisions, which often led to a comically high jump after hitting a truck.

It's better with the Grunt Funeral skull.

Those games use hip fire for the guns instead of aiming down the gun's sights/scope
Oh. I never liked that. I like scopes.
The thing with games with hipfire that isn't worthless is that you can fire while moving much more easily. Scoping generally slows you down in games, so accurate hipfire speeds the game up and makes strafing and movement in general more important, as opposed to standing still and just spraying each other.

Yeah, but thenthat elemen of fast gameplay is negated when the movement speed is pretty much 1 metre/minute and there's no way of moving any faster *coughhalo3cough*

Games where you go in water and when you come out, your clothes are actually wet.

The sheer amount of dialogue and writing in games like Fallout and Elder Scrolls. All of the notes, audio logs and in-game books are things I severely appreciate, especially when used to tell a story of something that happened (Such as Vault 19 in New Vegas)

Similarly, stuff like Mass Effect's Codex I love reading.

No, I was just hoping for better. I'll still be able to make the most of it; I'll use the mid-level university I'm going to to get a good BA and maybe MSc and springboard my way into a decent doctoral programme.

Hopefully; dissertations are much more my thing than examinations.

I get ya. I can know all the theory for something, but I just don't exam well. Like, in physics, I knew everything. Just tanked the exam

And Jesus Christ who thought it was a good idea to do a coding exam without a computer? Like, half of making a program is being able to go and test it and see where you dun fucked up. Doing it on paper is just awful. Ah well, I'm applying for a btec in computer games worth 3 a levels, except no exams, just coursework.

Considering how 343 was understaffed the entire way through development/ still building their team, H4 is really well made.

Halo 5 will be the true test. New engine, full house, not just reskinning the vehicle models of another game.

The Flood / Should I resit Year 12?
« on: August 12, 2015, 06:59:58 PM »
(For non-Brits, whatever year it is when you're 16-17)

So, I think I've done pretty shit in my AS levels, and I'm not sure if I'll be allowed to go back to Y13. But even if I did all right, I don't know if I want to continue.

Basically, I do computing, physics, chemistry and product design/ woodwork. Chemistry was a replacement for te fact I couldn't get onto history, and product because I had to pick a fourth subject and at the time it was the only one I thought I could do, because I did graphics design previously so was allowed on. But I hate both chemistry and product, so I don't want to continue either into next year.

So, this is kind of a conundrum because I want to continue physics and and computing, but I don't want to do the other two, but I hav to choose one to do (You go from four to three subjects).

Alternatively, I could resit Y12 completely, but choose four new subjects. For this, I'd probably want to do film studies, media and maybe photography- I've seen the stuff my friends get to do and they look really fun. And then I'd choose something else. But then I'm stuck in school for another year so I won't leave until I'm nineteen. Only problem is that I can't do computing then.

The third choice for me is to look more into a software development apprenticeship, which honestly sounds like the better option to me. I don't want to go to university, and I don't want to do something for two years that would ultinately lead to nothing (A levels) if I don't go. Plus, my parents seem dead set on me going to a university and are very disapproving (See: Angry) whenver I tell them I don't want to go.

And this is presuming I even pass everything, which I heavily doubt.

Anyway, does anyone have any thoughts on this? I'm planning on talking to my teachers after I get my results tomorrow. But I kind of want to start thinking about it.

Also didn't know if I should have put this in serious or not.

Since then, I've had no interest in having a girlfriend. Fuck 'em, I can do better by myself.
I think this is the first time I've heard of someone picking video games
