Besides, mystery for the sake of mystery is bad writing. I don't agree at all. I mean, sure, if you're using it as an excuse to leave some elephant in the room going completely unexplained, then that's bad writing. What I was thinking of, primarily, is this Starwarsian idea of giving every single character on-screen a name and a detailed backstory.
The same kind of thing is happening with Mad Max, which pisses me off. The Doof Warrior (flamethrower guitar dude) apparently has his own backstory. Why? Because we want to know more about him, sure, but why do we have to know more about him?... For me, it kills the novelty.
I was more referring to the large scale stuff. In halo, you spend most of your time poking through forerunner structures for whatever reason. You're going to have to address forerunners at some point instead of just dodging the issue or blowing up whatever artefact was about to tell us everything we wanted. That's what most people mean when they say there's no mystery in Halo. With something that is such an integral part of the franchise, you're going to have to acknowledge them at some point. But I get your point on the flamethrower guy.

Well, yeah. Because games (shockingly) Akers a lot of time and moneyto make so they can't do too much in the story.so they do a lot more in books which are cheaper and easier.
Besides, mystery for the sake of mystery is bad writing. Mysteries are there to e solved, not so you can dance around the subject forever until everyone gets bored f the same plot lines over and over again.
Anyway. The reason 343i puts out as much cobtent as they do is because the fans want that much content. Having five novels, 12 comics and two games in a year is a lore fan's wet dream.

Did you play much online? I think you'd appreciate the BR more if you did frequently.
Because it's the only fucking useful weapon in the multiplayer
There's no point picking up power weapons because the BR just out-guns literally everything
What is a skill gap?
I'd be okay with rewarding an automatic weapon that is actually hard to aim, but that's never existed: guns like the AR do the aiming for you. Why should that be rewarded?
BRs don't outgun rocket launchers, swords, shotguns, etc... just incompetent people with rocket launchers, swords, shotguns, etc... The BR is a central weapon, but you're exaggerating how powerful it is.
No weapon should be useful in every circumstance. The BR has no downsides, aside from no anti-vehicle capability. This is game design 101, you don't have one weapon that can outclass everything else and can perform a role as good as more or less any other. Not without restricting it's availability or ammunition, anyway. CQC? BR dominates Medium-Range? Optimal range Long-Range? Shoot a guy with a sniper once and he has no way to hit you back unless he's lucky And dodging rockets is easy. Their effective range is pretty much CQC (for infantry who are aware of you), so you simply dodge the rocket an ten unload a magazine. The BR is broken design, and the chief reason I don't play Halo 2 at all on MCC. It's te only halo game I'll actively quit out of.

Supernovae let out as much energy in 2-3 weeks as our sun will let out in it's entire lifetime. Such supernovae will outshine an entire galaxy, and are used in the detection of black holes.
A neutron star is basically just one big atom the size of a mountain. It's just a fuck ton of neutrons pressed together so tightly they are essentially one massive nucleus, and with such a density comes a massive gravity. Ironically, the brightest objects in the universe are only slightly smaller than the darkest objects.

What if we came from Mars?
That doesn't make much sense. Like, at all. The only way that would be possible is if some civilisation had the technology to launch spacecraft - and there are literally zero signs of any kind of life having existed, much less intelligent life.

Can we science the shit out of it?
that one line has turned me off to a movie that otherwise looked decent
It sounds completely retarded coming from a character who's supposed to be a goddamn astronaut.
Bazinga/10 humor, only high school dropouts and community college graduates need apply.
These are literally the first couple sentences of the book; I'm pretty much fucked. That's my considered opinion. Fucked. The guy who wrote it knows his stuff, the book is very scientifically accurate. And, in all honesty, you probably wouldn't be so professional in your diary entries if you were stranded on another planet with no hope of rescue.

I am. It's more of my personal project, with a couple of people who I get feedback from regarding a bunch of stuff.

If I was to join the military I'd want it to be something I have a pretty good chance of dying in. Like EOD
Why? That's an interesting outlook on things.
Well for me at least the military would be the last stop for me. It's my back up plan if I flunk out of college or massively fuck up my current plan for life, nothing left to lose at that point. Not to say that I view the military as that. I commend anyone that chooses to enlist and think it's a good life choice with plenty of advanced viable career paths but simply not for me. It's also because I would want to see some action rather just sit on base dicking around.
Fair enough. It's certainly a unique perspective (the last bit) but I get where you're coming from.

Check out /meg/ on /k/, the enlistment general.
Also check /fit/.
You will need to get in much better shape. People joke about AF and Navies having low standards, but you still need to be in good shape.
Afaik (British) navy and Air Force have the higher standards. But yeah, thanks for that. I'll have a look.

Aside from 3 and Reach, I'd consider CE to be the weakest plot of the shooters. Keyes only really becomes all that interesting after reading Fall of Reach and Cole Protocol, because he becomes an actual character. Same for John (Chief) in Fall of Reach. Cortana is cool anyway.
But John doesn't stop being generic military b@d@$$ until Halo 4. However, we get Thel (Arbiter) in Halo 2 who is pretty good.
Now, allow me to address a point: Earth. Earth is basically the capital planet. In the same way that our military protects the capital city, the UNSC likes Earth. It's where the important people are. That's why it's so important - what remains of the military and leadership is there. If it goes down, then the rest of the war is basically just mopping up by the Covenant.
But yeah, Bungie doesn't like exposition. There's a month gap between Halo 1 and 2, and they dont even bother saying how you return to the unsc. they hust say "It's classified" then never bring it up. Don't expect that much, because you don't get it in their games. But I guess it's also crucial to understand that they planned to have one game then move on, they never expected a multi billion dollar franchise, so didn't plan for one. It's partially why that game is do disconnected from the other things that are going on. Still, I can happily say that there's only two cases of level repitition in the rest of the series. Coincidentally enough, both are in the worst campaigns.
If only they released a book after the release of Halo 1 that shared the events of what happened.
Oh wait.
Try using aim assist. Maybe you won't miss the point next time.

Fucking nice. Every time we make a discovery like this, it makes me happy knowing we're one step closer to putting a man on the surface of another planet within our lifetimes.

I can do about a mile in about 16 minutes
you need to change that pronto
I'm only quoting this one but it applies to anyone else who said it too.
Role I'm looking at is about 14 minutes. Infantry is 11 and paratroopers get 9.
I can cut 16 minutes down to 13 minutes fairly easily, I think. 16's like my standard walking speed.
oh, US standards are a bit different then. just for reference the average mile run time is anywhere between 7-9 min.
last time i ran a timed mile I was around 14 and got a bit less than 8.
if you train consistently you'll do fine.
Yeah. Plus, I'm not going infantry, so it's a bit more lenient.

Why do you want to join the military? Like for reals. Ask yourself first because that's a pretty big decision.
-Military is something I'm really interested in in general. Computers is my only really useful skill. Could do both. -Don't know if I want to go to university. The more I hear about it, the less I want to. This is a pretty large factor for me, too.

As others have said already, if you want to go with IT then go with the RAF. There is a lot more IT shit going on there than in the regular army <.<
It's probably worth speaking to Connexions about it, unless they've already been axed for your area in which case maybe check the websites for the respective forces and see what it says.
My understanding of both navy and Air Force is that their selection criteria are a shit ton harder to get in. And that having been in cadets or something is also preferred.

[Posted in serious so I an actually have a proper discussion. I'd kind of appreciate if people don't make shitty jokes or whatever as it's something I'm serious about.] When I say considering, I mean. Like, thinking about it. By no means sold on it, saying 50% certain would be an overstatement. But if I did, it would be September 2016 at earliest. Basically, I've been looking at IT roles in the Royal Army. Because, I'm really interested in te military in general and computers are my thing. It seems like a perfect fit, really. I don't really know what I want to do after college as the more I see about university, the less I want to go, to be honest. My only concern would be the health requirements. I do a lot of walking and I can do about a mile in about 16 minutes, so cutting that down a couple of minutes wouldn't be too difficult, I don't think. So yeah. Has anyone here been/ done something similar? Is there anything I should consider And is it worth it? I want to know that of I decide to do it, I'll be doing it after considering as much as I can. Spoiler I turn 18 in march. But it's not really something I've talked to well, anyone about. At all.
I used to want to when I was younger but I decided no when I realise I wouldn't be able to meet the health stuff. But thi guy came into my college the other week and I was talking to him about it and have done aome more research since. and it gave me a more positive outlook, but I'm wary as recruiters wouldn't tell you the down sides because they don't want to put people off. Oh yeah, I'll reply to any posts in here in the morning.

I don't want to get into a massive thing because I don't understand half the talk people are saying in here.
But, having things like electricity, Internet connection, a phone and transport are basic necessities in the 21st century.
Unless people seriously advocate just dumping people in the middle of Africa or something because they dont want to lie in the dark ages. I mean, at least Africa isn't overcrowded and generally shit, but otherwise it's the same experience.

I write science fiction. Well, I do more world building than actual proper writing, I find making lore more fun than actually making any stories to put in it. Mainly because I can never stay interested in one set of characters for long.
